    • @spdcrzy
      @spdcrzy Před 3 lety +9

      LOL. I do this all the time when playing tabla. Basically you have a 16 beat cycle, over which half time, or the base beat, is 8 beats per "bar". You then progressively up the tempo by playing a cycle of 10 beats, then 12, then 14, then eventually get to full time by playing 16 beats per bar. Then you go to double time - 20, 24, 28, 32. The whole idea is to not only add a little spice to the performance, but also to stimulate your own mind as a player during the course of accompaniment.

    I have soooooooo much respect for you percussionist that play the trap drum set well. My word was it an overwhelming experience for me the first time I actually stood next to a really-really good absolute monster on the trap drums back in college. I was a music major in college (Classical Guitar). We had a well known professional (I am so very sorry that I have forgotten his name) visit the campus and after his symposium dealing with all types of percussion instruments (including the trap drum set), I stayed behind asking him my very stupid questions (he really was a very cool and patient guide) showing about four or five of us different rhythms and techniques. I cannot put into words how mind-numbingly awesome this guy was on the drum set. I'm standing right there watching and listening and I still could not believe how complicated and technical this guy was playing just like nothing.......all simultaneously....just....there are no words. From that day many years ago to now, I have nothing but total admiration and respect for great drummers that can do it all...like butter. This gentleman in this video did a great job and gave me some really cool flashbacks. If you ever get a chance to see a professional drummer play a spanish clave rhythm on the trap drums set Check This Out...it will blow your mind. This is soooooo very complicated and mind blowing to watch in person and hear. Any way, great job in this video sir.

      This is a drum clinic not a pink floyd concert. Its about techinque, technicality and learning. Its not about feeling in the slightest you fucking moron. On top of that, as Sunjay pointed out, "feeling" in music is the most subjective thing imaginable.
      If Tony wanted to play something with feeling and meaning, Im sure he'd find an artist who he can express himself with without doing all this techincal 'showy' off stuff.. This artist could even be on the opposite side of the spectrum when it comes to technicality and could be used as a platform for real music with feeling. Oh wait... Jay-Z anyone???

They never believe me then I show them things like this and they’re like “.......oh.....I see. Well. Best drummer at.....your age??” Then I show him his 12 year old drum solo and they’re like “......uh....okay wow....you’re uh....still good tho...right?”

      the best thing is to not compare yourself to everyone else. everyone has different styles of playing, and there are plenty of people who start at a younger age. age isn't the deciding factor, it's the years of experience you have behind it. don't focus on everyone else, but rather focus on bettering yourself. use the other musicians as motivation and influence, but never allow it to cut yourself down. keep up the good work man!

      Isaac Soto Great comments, let me tell you a funny story, when I
      was the show drummer at the Nevele Hotel in the Catskill mountains one of the comics Lenny Rush ( very funny) use to say to the audience ... ladies and gentlemen,let’s hear it for Phil Nestor on drums! The best drummer within a half mile of the blinking light in Ellenville!...A funny line,and watching all these guys play can either frustrate you or inspire you to get better which at 66 I still try to do. It was no different when I use to listen to Art Blakey records or Mitch Mitchell with Jimi Hendrix.Keep playing!!!!

      @@philipnestor5034 Agree completely. I started drumming (officially) when I was 14 and I'm now 58. About two months ago I got the Tommy Igoe DVD and the George Stone stick control book and broke my playing down all the way to whether I was even gripping the sticks properly. I've been practicing for at least two hours a day since then and found a local instructor with a good reputation. I'll be starting lessons as soon as our governor lets us start doing stuff again. And this was all after a couple of weeks in February when I'd decided to give up the drums for good because I just didn't enjoy it any longer.
      I'm hoping not to be an embarrassment by the time I'm 60.
