Borderlands 3 is an action role-playing first-person shooter video game developed by Gearbox Software and published by 2K Games. It is the sequel to 2012's Borderlands 2, and the fourth main entry in the Borderlands series. Borderlands 3 was released on 13 September 2019 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. A Google Stadia port has been confirmed for a later release date.
Borderlands 3 allows the players to complete quests and side missions, in singe-player or multiplayer, as one of the four main "Vault Hunters". Unlike the first two games Borderlands 3 takes the players to various other planets in order to stop the two main antagonists, twins Troy and Tyreen Calypso. - Hry

That was actually what borderlands one was, it was him just telling a young Orphan a story he made up on the fly, hence why the first DLC wasn’t canon and sounded like he was bsing
Its clearly all a version of events through Marcus lense, we see deeper layer when we replay through whole borderlands 2 again through Tina's lense, but we never see reality.

Well, to be honest anything could top Borderlands 3's story. Honestly. It's the worst thing to ever happen to the franchise.
Nothing beats Gen. Knox. A guy who clawed his way to the top of an evil corporate military only to have his direct superior be replaced by a spoiled 5 year old. Now he isn't sure if he should do his duty and kill you, or let you kill him, or just kill himself.

More like an impossible roof to break. Four games (five if you count the Tales non-game) and Jack is the only villain of such caliber. At this point I'm convinced they accidentally wrote a good adversary and the entire franchise has been riding on Jack's dick ever since, and now the fabled Borderlands 3 is tolerable if you mute the dialogue and play your own music or a podcast in the background.

Gameplay is MUCH better, characters are worse, story is just as bad.

22:40 - No artist or programmer would be punished if you refused to buy the game while it was locked to the Epic Games Store. As it stands they take a large sum of money that supposedly covers the debts the game accumulated during development... gearbox and it’s employees don’t miss out on anything. The company, the one they work for, would still have to pay them. Gearbox would have to re-evaluate the decisions that led to poor sales. Aka taking an exclusive deal from Epic. Rushing the game with bugs. Etc. unfortunately, to many people are so apathetic to all the bs going on that they actually help promote it rather than help stifle it’s growth.
Every time you make an exception it only gives companies the green light to go exclusive and put their stuff on the trash heep Epic Game Store. Every time you buy a micro transaction you let the company know that micro transactions are what they should be focusing on.
If everyone wants games to go back to being games that are well made, complete, and perform well out the gate, then people need to stick to their guns and hold to a set of standards and principles. Otherwise, things just get progressively worse as time goes on and people’s apathy allows this rotten trend to continue.

Add to that the fact that a CZcams reviewer cannot pass on the opportunity to make views with something popular. I never saw a single youtuber NOT talk about or buy a game despite all the controversy. The right thing to do would be to ignore that completely, but noooo, they need those views because it's a popular subject.

- it's on Steam in 6 months
- bugs and performance issues fixed
- patches and free content help with balance

22:40 - Your point stands but I very much disagree with that sentiment about "think of the developers" because affecting their bottom line can nourish change for the better for not just the product and company, but the industry as a whole. Unless Randy comes out bitching and the journalist shove all the "gamers" under the rug again and some "gamers" say and do a bunch of stupid shit that'll only negate any and all criticisms towards the industry. (I mean if we said and did nothing because we "thought of the developers" with EA's Battlefront 2, it would probably still have P2W loot boxes.)
I honestly agree that people should enjoy what they want but I also want to inform and encourage the masses to not support these types of behaviors. Especially now since I've grown more self-aware from experience in the past and as I've grown older and become more informed. We all should do that. We should also never belittle or cast aside those who just want to have fun. But those people who wanted the product should not complain about issues outside of the product. If you bought something on a store/launcher that has issues, and you were well aware of those issues, don't complain about about that store/launcher. You just wanted the product.
Really though my bottom line is that I want no THIRD-PARTY exclusives on the PC platform and just in general. I want everyone who's on the PC platform or is joining it to equally enjoy a product and have the BEST EXPERIENCE POSSIBLE.

The game legit looks so much better graphically than the second game. Idk how people don't see that.
I think it's that, without the lighting, BL3 would be basically Borderlands 2 in terms of looks. But that's okay. Cel-Shaded graphics aren't meant to blow you away. When Gman talks about taking 15 seconds staring at the cyberpunk planet, I think we're all gonna take 15 minutes staring at the world of....well, Cyberpunk. It also speaks to the medium that Cel Shaded graphics make a game hold up no matter how old it is. Look at games like Viewtiful Joe, Okami, and Sly Cooper. They're not the best, but they hold up because of their artstyle. I mean, look at MvC3 compared to Mortal Kombat 9. Both released in 2011, both 2D fighting games, but MvC looks a lot better. Granted, games like Battlefield 3 are also from 2011 and still hold up relatively well today. Idk I'm going off in a tangent.

@@aniruddhadas1011 black outlines don't exactly qualify as cel-shading. Take a look at some Suda51 games like killer7 and Killer is Dead, that's what real cel-shading is. I'm honestly glad the outlines arent that noticeable in 3 unless you TRY to see them, Borderlands 2 on PC let you turn off the black outlines and it honestly looks more pleasing and also made the game more colorful (it also helped improve performance).
Pretty much looked like bl2 to me with better lighting and higher resolution textures.

Since the only friend who wanted to play this with me owns a PS4 (and no gaming PC), we went for the console version.
Splitscreen on PS4 means we play at 10-15fps (and even less if one of us DARES to open the menu to chech his inventory/skills) and playing with a controller means any build based on critical hits and overall AIMING isn't an option (he went for a tank/shotgun Amara while I just toss grenades everywhere with Moze).
Dispite all of that, we're still having quite some fun with Borderlands 3, so that's saying a lot about the overall quality of the game I guess.
As a fellow PS4 player (can't stand Epic store) I can agree, optimization is pretty lacking. Maybe I was spoiled by Handsome Collection running so smooth at all times, even splitscreen ran pretty well, but man the second-long pauses every time you bring up a menu is grating.
Same here on Xbox One X. Every game I played so far ran extremely smooth, even if they were not optimized for the console. But BL3 just runs like shit at times although it actually is optimized for the One X. Sucks, hopefully Gearbox will fix that soon
You cannot skip the opening cut scene! Only complaint lol.
Yup I was checking if anyone had this complaint! I play one character a few hours, and go to start a new one, and nope. Sit here for 5ish minutes for the cutscenes to play. And the tutorial area is even slower than the older games, but at least does give a fun boss.
Just rename the intro vids, like in prior games.

I’m the one problem I have with this game apart from bad writing at points was the boss battles. I normally play alone and I think I’m very good at loot shooters, but the bosses on solo suck. I had to pull in a friend just to get one boos and I had very strong weapons. Other than that I think it’s a great game.
Love you Gman, and your reviews are always fun to watch, but I can't ever see myself getting this cause of Randy Pitchford and how 2K sent PI investigators at that Borderlands-CZcamsr's house for finding accidentally-revealed gameplay tidbits and talking about em.

I've played as crit Fl4k for a while, but I'm so glad to see phasegrasp Amara works as well as it does, I'm excited to try that build out.
Fl4k is my boy. So far he has been my go to.
It's funny they come up with all this other names to replace "midgets" but all the names they choose are far more offensive and demeaning. Midget isn't even bad lol.
On another note it's sad the game still has bad writing. The first game is so much better than the rest of the series when it comes to writing and atmosphere. Wish they would take more influence from that.

The ending is literally the wost ending in gaming hiatory....commander steele was wasted only to get "surprise" murdured by the destroyer....having finished BL2 for the 100 time last werk I cant see how BL1 has better story....Handsome Jack is such a great antagonist and so much more happends in the story missions....while in BL1 all you do is fight Crimson Lance troops and collect vault key fragments

I got the game when it came out. I chose Fl4k and ended up using a green Lvl.14 Jacobs assault rifle all the way up to Lvl 40 cause it had the perfect scope and recoil for me to land critical hits all day long.

Having played this on the Xbox One X, I can confirm the performance really isn’t better on there. I haven’t had any crashes, (knock on wood,) but I’ve had frame rate issues, the game freezing for a second or two and then coming back, usually resulting in me running into a wall. I’ve had an enemy launch about a mile away after I used Amara’s slam ability, meaning I couldn’t get the loot from it. I enjoy Borderlands 3 a lot, and I love the sound design and the way it looks, but I think there’s a lot of things that just don’t work in this game, such as devoting so much anti-piracy software to the game that it hampers the performance. Definitely a really great review, Gman.

My friend had this problem, don't put the game in performance mode. I guess "performance" means perform badly
this is old but I've had performance issues on my fairly high end pc (stuttering and frame drops etc). this game is just not well-optimized.
I've been playing on ps5 with resolution settings turned up and I've been getting consistent 50 FPS. Might just be the updates tho
I've always enjoyed the constant banter running in the background while your playing. Made it seem something was always going on even when your playing by your lonesome.
I know what you mean about the gun issue. Felt like I had peashooters until I got a pistol which had sticky darts as an alt fire, so if you stuck them to a bandits head you can just shoot these rocket shots and get criticals for days. Feels like Im barely getting started with this one which is a good thing.

it sounds like this game would benefit greatly from proper modding support even if it was just replacing sound files. (like replacing all of the dialogue with different Lego Yoda death screams or just with his voice).

man i really missed out on this series. i passed on the first borderlands back when it came out and just now started playing for the first time. holy fuck this game is underrated! it has its flaws but it is really fun and relaxing oddly lol. i cant wait to get around to bl3, it looks amazing.
Being underrated is good, as it is not yet ruined by randy and the devs are making new content on there own pace

Great game. Th one glaring flaw to me was the they changed the feeling of the aiming. It feels slow and floaty. So picking guys off accurately is a chore. Sold my copy and am going to repurchase when it comes out on steam.
In previous games the level cap felt to low at launch and then they upped it.....is it going to be the same again for 3 in regards to level cap feeling to low ?

I’ve yet to bother with this game after all the EGS and SupMatto bullshit but goddamn, if I’m not sick and tired of people pretending launchers never have an effect on the games we play.
Installing the epic launcher decreased my life expectancy by 15% lol. life is short making it grim for yourself and being disgruntled about everything wont serve you any good. life will go on for those devs you despise so much whether you bought their game or not.

What GG said was about progress losses stems from the EGS exclusivity so its not true to say the deal has gone off without a hitch. In fact, this is just another in a long line of issues for the launcher.
So don’t give me the life is short shtick because it’s a BS smokescreen.

@@devonmolina5200 They do a good job making the calypsos absolutely insufferable but you can do that with any villain, when i comes to borderlands i'm in it for the gameplay not the writing. If i want good lore/writing i go to destiny for the tons of lore books, for the writing i go literally anywhere else, you get the gist but hey if it's a game that plays well and is fun to sink time into i'll play it for days without pause until i pass out from exhaustion.

In regards to the smoothness of the game, I'm running a 1070Ti 8gb, 16gb DDR4, and an i78700k. I only dipped below 60 FPS once, and that was right before the game crashed.

Pro tip. Play BL3 offline,in privacy mode. It runs wayyyyy better offline.

the original had the funniest dialog. handsome jack was refreshing -- the twins, if you listen to their banter, gets funnier the longer you get into the story. it's not stellar, but it's consistent. thats all they need. consistent. the city worlds felt really bleak and empty, they need to keep to outer barren worlds to retain the illusion. gameplay is fun. consistent.
Does anyone else see the irony/juxtaposition in helping Atlas fight Maliwan? You know, because those of us who played BL1 *before* BL2 probably spent a lot of time melting Crimson Lance troopers with a Pestilent Defiler.

Wait a minute your taking time out of your review to give objective examples of gameplay changes from BL2 to BL3??? But every other “reviewer” cough said there was no changes from BL2 to BL3!
Not to mention ShillUp saying “I wish the open world was expanded more” and I’m like why? Why do you want unnecessary padding to a campaign that’s meant for multiple playthrough.

This game is solid. I’ve really enjoyed my time in it so far, but I got to say the writing is total shit. Always has been, but everything is so cringey I can’t help but agree with you. Especially running the coffee missions and such, I thought those were really stupid. But the gunplay is great.

The being able to slide down a hill thing was done befor by bullet storm not apex wanted to point that out and I'm sure there's other games just like some are saying the PING is from apax as well but you could ping enemy's in gears of war since 3 (: but over all nice review as allways I'll pick this up one day

As fun as the mechanics are, the thought of replaying it once let alone multiple times is nauseating. It goes on more than long enough even without the DLCs and gets pretty repetitive feeling later on like 2 did. I had the most fun going through the whole Promethea act.

Your review was THE most honest, straightforward, and half decent review I've watched of BL3.
Everyone bitches about how bad the writing is and how terrible the game is compared to BL2. Your review looked at BL3 for what it was worth - all the good and bad that came with it. You didn't shit all over the game purely because of its bad writing because there IS more to BL3 than that.
