  • Repairing my Fujifilm XQ-1 by remaking the menu control cable. There are a few videos on repairing these flat cables, but I found them too fussy for my liking.
This is the process I used to remake the cable quickly and easily. Menu systems restored. Huzzah!

Smashing repair, well worth a bit of work :-D
Some companys are real shitbags for the way they treat there customers, internet providers seem to be the worst.
    In my opinion.
I've done similar things to cables, the number one is cutting off 1/2 a milimeter off the ends so the socket pins use a different part of the metal strips.
There are always black dots where the connector was sitting :-(.
Keep bodging, err i mean expert modifications :)

Thanks! I was thrilled to take it out tonight for a bit, and it just worked. Like everything, the way it's supposed to. Wonderful.
To be fair they fixed my 770EXR (well in warranty) with an overnight turnaround, so who knows?
Never fear, there's plenty of stuff that keeps turning up!

It seems that I could have the same issue with my xq2. The wheel selector is acting ectic when I turn it, the flash also works 1 on 10. Where is this flat cable situated, and what need to be taken apart to reach it.

You need to take the back off, and the cable will be running from the switches into the the top of the camera body, underneath the main dial. It will make more sense when you get the case off. From memory, there are a couple of screws each side, and a few on the bottom. They use some weird 3 pointed screws so you will need a special screwdriver for it. If you can get machine screws easily, I'd replace them with Philips head screws of the same size.

@@felix_da_katze ...any chance of you doing a video of pulling that camera apart...I have an XQ1 that has a stuck zoom...fuji service repairs want 500 bucks to fix it..if I know how it comes apart I want to have a go at fixing it my self....

You need a set of special 3 bladed screw drivers to get the case apart, alone with standard jewellers Phillips. I replaced the special screws with standard Phillips. That gets you into the back, and that is as far as I have gone, as the repair I needed didn't need me to go further. Fujifilm Japan wanted near $200 to fix the cable issue I had, which I solved for a couple of bucks, so I understand exactly your situation. If I find a junk one I might consider a full tear down.
