Diagnosing cassette deck recording issues - Pioneer CT-7100

Cassette deck recording issues? This video might help.
Chasing down some issues with the bias signal disappearing. Found one of the bias transistors was reaching thermal cut out using a combination of DSO and a Braille temperature sensor.
So, what was the problem? Do I even have a clue? Watch and find out. Or not.
