The 600 SEL is one rare Matchbox model. It was in production between 1992 and 1993 only. Sure, it had a few releases with fancy paint jobs and wheels in the limited Select Class, World Class and Ultra collections, but its life as a regular series diecast was extremely short. As such, it is sought after and it commands a high price.
Even this damaged and vandalised casting was expensive compared to its contemporaries. A previous owner had decided to give this one some privacy glass using a marker pen, but didn't just stop at the windows. They wanted the blacked out light clusters too. It had a few dings and scrapes, but otherwise it was in a salvageable state.
For my custom, I opted to recreate a 1992 version of the W140 S Class using the Mercedes Alamak resin wheels and giving it a period correct two-tone paint coat of black on satin grey.

Probably your cleanest two tone work. Really nice
One of it produced in Thailand and yet has suspension! A very good master piece of Matchbox diecast in that era.

I quite liked the beige colour of the plastic at the time. I don’t really revisit old castings but of course if I had another I’d do it totally differently! Same for all my customs really.
