You can tell this woman is so much more than her pretty face. In fact, that fact that she was for so long reduced to just that and still mantained her faith in herself, her sanity, her character and her sense of self already proves that. You can actually see the beautiful human being she is. Inside and out.

Her integrity is BRUTAL, how she was used, sexualized, manipulated by her own mother, and still she turned out not only ok, but that she thrived amazingly and strongly, no drug abuse stories, no alcoholism, no scandals, nothing, an outstanding woman... some people are just stronger.
I listened to her audiobook that she wrote about her mother's life and her relationship with her. I have seen two of the movies she was in. I am absolutely amazed that she never turned to hard drugs to deal with everything she was thrust in to.

Word is that her mother picked a beautiful man with whom to conceive a baby. She wanted a beautiful daughter. Drew Barrymore’s mom picked a famous name to do the same. They were not born with those attributes so they bred them and become stage moms. It is good to know that both Drew and Brooke grew up to be thriving women despite their upbringing.

These comments are sad AF. Everyone saying “she could’ve walked off set”…ummm she started working at 11 months old. How do you suppose she walk off set when she couldn’t even walk?! Or this is a good one “well she could’ve quit in her twenties.” Yes, she could’ve but by that time this was the only career, way of life that she knew. During one interview she mentioned how she thought what her mother did what was right at the time…only to have her daughters ask her “would you let us do the same?” And she said no. This movie is film is not just about her being “pretty” and more about how the adults in her life failed her and sexualized her…as a minor. I suffered from PPD twice and I’m so glad she and other celebs speak up about it. It really is a scary thing to go through and to imagine so many women are told nothing is wrong is even scarier.

I was a child back then in the 80's & I was like why? Wtf! Sick. I also I remember creepy men trying to say I was beautiful as a child being only 11 years old & me being weirded out by their comments... it was at church too. It normalized hyper sexualization of little girls. I'm sure it has damaged alot of little girls mental states who were around in that time frame, bc men were seeing them as full grown adults bc of that movie. They were coming on to them & saying inappropriate comments too.
She was the IT girl of all girls. It amazes me that she never turned to drugs like most child actors that were exploited do. I just LOVE Brooke for her strength and depth. I'm happy she survived that horrible era ❤❤❤❤

When I was a young girl I used to think “oh wow what a hard problem to have being told how pretty and beautiful you are all the time”. That’s because I grew up experiencing the opposite. When I became “pretty” as a young adult I started to get it. They are both opposite ends on the same spectrum. When you reduce a woman or a girl to her looks, whether in an admiring way or a disparaging way, you rob her of personhood and identity.
Exactly, I saw Pretty Baby a couple of years after it came out when I was about 14-15 and I was in shock, I remember thinking "this is just wrong, this should be forbidden" 😞

It did look like she wanted to cry the whole time. I was surprised there wasn’t more pushback against the adults in her life who did these things - like the director who said she was going from a girl to a woman on camera? And the fact that her mom let someone take those photos. She said herself she was more upset about the man breaking her trust but I personally would have been just as mad at him and my mother for even allowing those pictures to be created. I was really glad to hear her daughters talk about some things just aren’t right.

@@ct6852 Not all child actors are victimized. I think if a child in show business needs to be heavily guarded because there are predators around every corner. It requires really solid loving parents that keep them safe and grounded. If I had kids I wouldn’t let them get into show business. If they wanted to purse theater and the arts in school that’s one thing but it’s not something I wouldn’t allow for my kid until their 18 they can’t navigate that adult world.

And then thinking, well kids probably shouldn't be working at all. They should be at school or socializing with others their age. I genuinely think the percentage of men that would engage with a minor after the age of around 10-13 depending on her rate of development is something like 80%. As in, without laws, I think the average man would happily, and guilt free engage in activities with a young teenager as long as she had a 'developed body'. The only thing stopping them is the laws, laws that were only created after enough horrific things were done to young girls to make them stop. So yeah, a solid 80-90%. If you look at the views and the faces of the most popular girls in the 'entertainment' industry, you'll see how true this is. And the older men get the more they seem to skew younger.

There's an episode of "The Facts of Life" purposely titled "Pretty Babies" where a photographer comes to The Eastland School For Girls looking for his next muse. He's looking for something that all of the older girls don't possess. Then he sees Tootie who is 12 years old and is struck. She goes to his studio with Mrs. Garrett as her chaperone and is glammed up. While taking photos of her, he turns on some music and proceeds to tell her that "she's a hot, snarling animal" and " to make love to the camera". Telling Mrs. Garrett that he wants to "Bring the woman out". She then takes his hands off of Tootie's face and slaps them saying "She doesn't know how the woman got in, she's only 12." Mrs. Garrett then tells the man this type of behavior is sick and is one step away from child pornography. Watching this and seeing what happened to Brooke Shields shows the intent of those who called this beauty, fashion and appeal.
I absolutely love Brooke, always have. As a fellow narcissistic mother club member I think she never really knew where she began and her mother ended. It’s all about what your mother wants when you have that intense relationship with a narcissist mother. You just go along with everything they want because you’ve been conditioned to please them from when you are tiny. That hold they have over you cannot be underestimated. They exploit that hold because we love them and so want to please them. Unfortunately it’s never enough.
When I was little and Blue Lagoon would come on tv I didn't understand why my dad only let us watch the first bit. Now that I am older I am like oh god. Those poor children were so exploited. I thought it was just a fun story of living on an island when I was little.

When I was a kid, I was sooo envious of Brooke Shields. Of her beauty and charm. Now that I am an adult in my forties, I realise how lucky I've been to be an average looking girl. It gave me the chance to be myself and not be objecified and sexualized by any adult.
This. Not tooting my own horn or saying I was above average but I developed early and got endless attention from boys and grown men alike from the age of 10-11. It has left permanent trauma on me. I genuinely envied my friends that had less interest/developed later. It's sad that I hope if I have a daughter she blooms into her beauty after 18 because I know it is impossible to change the state of the world and I wouldn't wish the things that men said to me on my way to school on ANY 11 year old.

You are right. I began to be heavily sexualized by men when I was 13 and boys my age soon after, and it never stopped, for years. It was too much to handle, super shy and private + being beautiful (nothing like Brooke Shields, of course, lol) and not even asking to be, and always embarrassed by it. And it's a fine line between getting positive (if unsolicited) attention and being sexually harassed; no one leaves pretty girls alone. Always objectified, living in the sunshine of the male gaze, a double edged sword. I even lost girlfriends over their jealousy at attention I'd get. Of course there were advantages, and I enjoyed a lot of that - men tend to be extra nice, at least on the surface. Now a middle aged woman with men treating me massively differently - dismissively - because I'm not that hottie anymore leaves me reeling. Whatever, but it's a jarring shock. My self orientation is askew. Beauty usurped who I was to the world, and that became my identity, like it or not; it was what it was, inescapable in this patriarchy. Now, I'm usurped as a human being. I realize I lack the ability to be ok with not feeling identified by my looks as my #1 character trait and that comes from the insecurity of having that lifelong beauty facade ripped off. I never really got to know or act upon the person inside, my real self. I was too busy fending off male attention and aggression and, I admit that I was also let off the hook from having to be authentic with myself or others. Trying to figure this out now, at my age - how to be a real person, not an objectified pretty face - is not fun. I am entirely lost. I think I would have been, past and present, a better and nicer and probably happier person had I not had physical beauty.
I have a friend who was very tall and beautiful when she was a teenager. She received so much unsolicited attention from men she shaved her hair and became a punk, it was the only way she could make them stop. She is still very tall and beautiful, she just know how to tell men off now.
Yes, what happened to her IS about her as an individual, AND is also about young girls and young women. Someone else’s truth is always theirs, but it does also affect all of us in individual ways as well. Don’t even try to take that from her, she earned it.

@@audreynothepburn7663 Sadly, something did happen. She never talked about it in public before being interviewed for this film, but in it she describes being sexually assaulted by someone she trusted when she was in her late teens or early 20s.
I saw an interview where she talked about that too… I think it was on Oprah. I didn’t know that she did that until much later, but I had the same experience after a sexual assault my first week of college, and for whatever reason, it comforted me so much to know that, at least in part, Brooke Shields had that same reaction too. I wish it was talked about more openly, because once you hear stories that mirror your own out in the light of day, it starts to break that shame and stigma downward spiral that keeps us down.

It's so creepy to watch these talk show hosts drool over her when she was a child. I never realized how awful she was treated when she was young. Really, it's disgusting. I watched the documentary and realized how much she faced when she was so young. It's amazing she didn't turn to drugs and alcohol like so many people who are famous at a young age. But you can tell that there are some scars still when she talks about her life. She's really smart and together now.

Yes, but behaving well actually harmed her in the end. We need to teach our children to speak out for themselves when they feel something is wrong. I love the idea of her. Brooke and I are the same age. I remember my mother being so outraged about “Pretty Baby.” I thought she was so out of touch. But as I watch and listen to Brooke speak of her work at 11 as art, as they let her kiss a 29 year old…….and the rest of what followed. Why are we trying to make this okay?

Danica McKellar (Winnie from Wonder Years) went through a similar thing on a smaller scale. A lot of older men pined for her and sent her creepy messages to her. What's sad is in our society they will blame the girl and say she is teasing the men, this is an act of deflection so that men don't have to correct their behavior.
It's disgusting how many excuses are made for male degeneracy. Like attraction to inappropriately young girls is "natural" because of reproductive potential, or because girls "mature" sooner. Or how men are often expected/allowed to cheat because it's just part of their biology. Either these are lies made up so that men can get away with doing whatever they want, or they genuinely can't help it and should be considered subhuman.

I remember a few months ago in my job (I work in a photo gallery) and seeing a photo print of young Brooke Shields posed nude shot by Francesco Scavullo (that photo is featured in this very trailer). Definitely felt uneasy about it. Can't even fathom that she was being exploited at such a young age, and that adults even allow it. Even worse is, that print is even circulating around...and could possibly haunt her in present day. I'm glad she survived it all and doing well now. I hope she continues to do well.

That photo was considered "art" because it was shot by a famous fashion photographer, Francesco Scavullo. It was even included in one of his books. If a "regular" person had shot a similar photo and taken it to a Photomat to be developed, the outcome might have been completely different.
She was just gorgeous. A living doll. Just because you have money doesn't mean you feel less pain than the average person. I'm sorry she had to deal with the constant scrutiny as a child. Living under a microscope all the time, I don't know how she stayed sane. Every time I see her she is always on the defense, these people taking little swipes at her... constantly. She just really looked so regal, like a living sculpture. And when you're pretty like her women can be THE cruelest. Then I heard the stories. Hollywood has a habit of exploitation, and her mother didn't help the situation. I would love to see this to hear her story from her lips. I will always adore Brooke Shields. Always.
I remember when she was everywhere. I'm about 5 yrs younger than her and I knew (like many others commenting here) that something was really off. So great that she is naming all that bs for what it was. Who is to blame? Well, of course the entire industry that exploited her (including her mother) but that's just half of the equation. Brooke Shields as long impressed me as a smart and truly nice person. How she managed to come out so well despite the sexualized identity imposed upon her is amazing. She only a few years younger than me and even as a teen I could see she wasn't ready for the kind of attention she received. Hell, I wasn't ready for the type of attention I received as a 20 year old. Most of it gross, just as Brooke received on any given day by men old enough to be her father when she was still a little girl.
I lived next town over from her Haworth Mansion she lived in growing up. It was like a castle that stood out amongst other homes. Very wealthy area, but the architecture of the home is unique. I saw her in shop rite a couple of towns over when I was about 18 or so. Maybe a little older, probably 30 years ago. She was buying water. She was gorgeous! So tall and striking. Endless Love and Stalking Back were a couple of her movies I love.
Seeing this in the year 2023 makes me proud, that something has changed for the better. I wish Mrs. Shields all the best! I have an enourmous respect for her.
I met Brooke in 2009 in Manhattan at a Starbucks lol. She was surprisingly engaging with me and she told me she was in town doing a play. Pleasant conversation with her overall. I ran into her 3 times that week and she actually remembered my name.
Didn't she go to Princeton (at a time when you probably couldn't get in by being a famous social activist or whatever)? I think it makes a HUGE difference that she is and has always been very intelligent - not just street-smart but old-school / academical / book-learning bright.
If you watch any old interviews with child actors or female adult actors. There is alot of horrible sexualization of them. Case in point Matt Lauer. Anne Hathaway, Sandra Bullock. That man was absolutely disgusting and I don't now why they allowed him to ask those questions, just creepy!

No one wins when one type of beauty becomes the poster of ‘what all women should be and aspire to’. To add from a child then adolescent at that. To be told she was ‘only’ beautiful and for millions who felt that she was the ‘only kind of beautiful’, also many people damaged. She is a beautiful person because of her mind and heart.

I really appreciate that we live in a time in which these behaviors and tendencies from the early ages of "popular, mass media" is being criticized and scutinized. These women deserved so much better and finally they can be seen and heard for who they are... (Brooke Shields, Pamela Anderson, and more)

It breaks my heart to know she went through this. I pray that her coming forward will help other young girls being put through the same thing. Young girls are not meant to be sex symbols. Just at the clothes out there for young girls and how young are posing in photos like they are models. This is the road they are heading down. Parents also need to step up and not encourage this.
I watched the documentary and it's inspiring to see how she overcame all that she went through as a kid and young adult. How was it even legal to put a child in those exploitative movies back then? How? Where were the grownups? Her mom was horrible. It was mental abuse. The fact that Brooke Shields is still here and sane is a miracle. She also touches on her battle with postpartum depression and her war of words with Tom Cruise over taking antidepressants for it.
But the thing is who says she's sane? We tend to associate insanity or mental debilitation as NOT being composed..it probably and has manifestation in many other ways..she has just mastered functionality
l'm 3 days older than Brooke. Grew up with her. Even then ...it was SHOCKING! When a Sheilds movie was opening, you knew you were in for it! Nevertheless ....we just HAD to see it. All us girls wanted to look just like her. l collected all her stuff. l think it really messes with you, as you grow up thinking ''This is the way the world is.'' lts AMAZING she never ended up a drug addict, or worse. She's a very rare individual. l thank JESUS that she made it through!
I heard she still hasn't recognized that Pretty Baby's movie was problematic. I hope she'll have the strength to face it someday. I guess it's what she finally achieved in this documentary. So awful what she went through :(

Instead, the photos were published in Playboy Press publication Sugar and Spice and a judge okayed the use of the photos and if that wasn't enough she was nude in the movie Pretty Baby playing a prostitute at only 11yo. Brooke was definitely the victim, but even as an adult Brooke seems to minimize how she was exploited and excuses it away by saying it was acting and modeling in the documentary
Brooke Shields is my number one best actress. She is a true artist since 11 months old, as she describes, and still. She is the most beautiful and best acting. Knowing her personal life, the story of her mother and yet she still live as a sweet, nice, humble and friendly person to this day, it makes me more and more respectful of her. When I was a young girl I used to think “oh wow what a hard problem to have being told how pretty and beautiful you are all the time”. That’s because I grew up experiencing the opposite.
When I became “pretty” as a young adult I started to get it.

I genuinely think the percentage of men that would engage with a minor after the age of around 10-13 depending on her rate of development is something like 80%. As in, without laws, I think the average man would happily, and guilt free engage in activities with a young teenager as long as she had a 'developed body'. The only thing stopping them is the laws, laws that were only created after enough horrific things were done to young girls to make them stop. So yeah, a solid 80-90%. If you look at the views and the faces of the most popular girls in the 'entertainment' industry, you'll see how true this is. And the older men get the more they seem to skew younger.

There's an episode of "The Facts of Life" purposely titled "Pretty Babies" where a photographer comes to The Eastland School For Girls looking for his next muse. He's looking for something that all of the older girls don't possess. Then he sees Tootie who is 12 years old and is struck. She goes to his studio with Mrs. Garrett as her chaperone and is glammed up. While taking photos of her, he turns on some music and proceeds to tell her that "she's a hot, snarling animal" and " to make love to the camera". Telling Mrs. Garrett that he wants to "Bring the woman out". She then takes his hands off of Tootie's face and slaps them saying "She doesn't know how the woman got in, she's only 12." Mrs. Garrett then tells the man this type of behavior is sick and is one step away from child pornography. Watching this and seeing what happened to Brooke Shields shows the intent of those who called this beauty, fashion and appeal.

This. Not tooting my own horn or saying I was above average but I developed early and got endless attention from boys and grown men alike from the age of 10-11. It has left permanent trauma on me. I genuinely envied my friends that had less interest/developed later. It's sad that I hope if I have a daughter she blooms into her beauty after 18 because I know it is impossible to change the state of the world and I wouldn't wish the things that men said to me on my way to school on ANY 11 year old.

You are right. I began to be heavily sexualized by men when I was 13 and boys my age soon after, and it never stopped, for years. It was too much to handle, super shy and private + being beautiful (nothing like Brooke Shields, of course, lol) and not even asking to be, and always embarrassed by it. And it's a fine line between getting positive (if unsolicited) attention and being sexually harassed; no one leaves pretty girls alone. Always objectified, living in the sunshine of the male gaze, a double edged sword. I even lost girlfriends over their jealousy at attention I'd get. Of course there were advantages, and I enjoyed a lot of that - men tend to be extra nice, at least on the surface. Now a middle aged woman with men treating me massively differently - dismissively - because I'm not that hottie anymore leaves me reeling. Whatever, but it's a jarring shock. My self orientation is askew. Beauty usurped who I was to the world, and that became my identity, like it or not; it was what it was, inescapable in this patriarchy. Now, I'm usurped as a human being. I realize I lack the ability to be ok with not feeling identified by my looks as my #1 character trait and that comes from the insecurity of having that lifelong beauty facade ripped off. I never really got to know or act upon the person inside, my real self. I was too busy fending off male attention and aggression and, I admit that I was also let off the hook from having to be authentic with myself or others. Trying to figure this out now, at my age - how to be a real person, not an objectified pretty face - is not fun. I am entirely lost. I think I would have been, past and present, a better and nicer and probably happier person had I not had physical beauty.
I have a friend who was very tall and beautiful when she was a teenager. She received so much unsolicited attention from men she shaved her hair and became a punk, it was the only way she could make them stop. She is still very tall and beautiful, she just know how to tell men off now.
I think that being very beautiful or very handsome when you are young is not a privilege, beautiful people receive a lot of harassment.

@@audreynothepburn7663 Sadly, something did happen. She never talked about it in public before being interviewed for this film, but in it she describes being sexually assaulted by someone she trusted when she was in her late teens or early 20s.
I saw an interview where she talked about that too… I think it was on Oprah. I didn’t know that she did that until much later, but I had the same experience after a sexual assault my first week of college, and for whatever reason, it comforted me so much to know that, at least in part, Brooke Shields had that same reaction too. I wish it was talked about more openly, because once you hear stories that mirror your own out in the light of day, it starts to break that shame and stigma downward spiral that keeps us down.

It's so creepy to watch these talk show hosts drool over her when she was a child. I never realized how awful she was treated when she was young. Really, it's disgusting. I watched the documentary and realized how much she faced when she was so young. It's amazing she didn't turn to drugs and alcohol like so many people who are famous at a young age. But you can tell that there are some scars still when she talks about her life. She's really smart and together now.

Yes, but behaving well actually harmed her in the end. We need to teach our children to speak out for themselves when they feel something is wrong. It is very clear in some of her expressions that she felt uncomfortable with what was going on, but she was too well-mannered to say anything. I wish she hadn't been so well-mannered. And I bet she does too.

I love the idea of her. Brooke and I are the same age. I remember my mother being so outraged about “Pretty Baby.” I thought she was so out of touch. But as I watch and listen to Brooke speak of her work at 11 as art, as they let her kiss a 29 year old…….and the rest of what followed. Why are we trying to make this okay?

I 100% blame her mother for all her early trauma. Her mother was the catalyst for all he early career choices. Terry is deceased but she was 100% wrong and at fault for Brooke and all she went through.
When I was 14, at my middle school dinner dance, my friends' dad said I looked like Brooke Shields. And I was horrified. Somehow, without knowing the full picture of her life, I knew exactly what he meant.

Danica McKellar (Winnie from Wonder Years) went through a similar thing on a smaller scale. A lot of older men pined for her and sent her creepy messages to her. What's sad is in our society they will blame the girl and say she is teasing the men, this is an act of deflection so that men don't have to correct their behavior.

It's disgusting how many excuses are made for male degeneracy. Like attraction to inappropriately young girls is "natural" because of reproductive potential, or because girls "mature" sooner. I remember a few months ago in my job (I work in a photo gallery) and seeing a photo print of young Brooke Shields posed nude shot by Francesco Scavullo (that photo is featured in this very trailer). Definitely felt uneasy about it. Can't even fathom that she was being exploited at such a young age, and that adults even allow it. Even worse is, that print is even circulating around...and could possibly haunt her in present day. I'm glad she survived it all and doing well now. I hope she continues to do well.

That photo was considered "art" because it was shot by a famous fashion photographer, Francesco Scavullo. It was even included in one of his books. If a "regular" person had shot a similar photo and taken it to a Photomat to be developed, the outcome might have been completely different.
She was just gorgeous. A living doll. Just because you have money doesn't mean you feel less pain than the average person. I'm sorry she had to deal with the constant scrutiny as a child. Living under a microscope all the time, I don't know how she stayed sane. Every time I see her she is always on the defense, these people taking little swipes at her... constantly. She just really looked so regal, like a living sculpture. And when you're pretty like her women can be THE cruelest. They think they can say anything to you, like it wouldn't bother you because you're beautiful. She has a beautiful heart and doesn't need to explain kaka to anyone.

I grew up during that time and girls in those Calvin Klein Jeans were everything. Girls were starving themselves to have that look. Her face was everywhere. That look was all consuming back then.
I grew up with Brooke Shields in my face. I had such a little girls crush on her and it started with Blue Lagoon. I watched that movie so much as a kid that I knew it word-for-word! I saw Endless Love, and it was strange, but I loved the song. She faded away as I grew up and I heard she went to Princeton, which I thought was awesome. Loved her in Suddenly Susan. Then I heard the stories. Hollywood has a habit of exploitation, and her mother didn't help the situation. I would love to see this to hear her story from her lips. I will always adore Brooke Shields. Always.

So great that she is naming all that bs for what it was. Who is to blame? Well, of course the entire industry that exploited her (including her mother) but that's just half of the equation. The other half is the sick f*kers who were gobbling this crap up. The market wouldn't have served this to them if there hadn't been demand.
Perhaps the film addresses this, but Brooke's mother was her manager. They don't mention that once in this trailer.

I remember interviews of her some years ago where she'd support that she wasn't at all traumatised by her fame and exploitation. I always knew she wasn't being honest, and she can come forward and speak whenever she's ready, but I really wish she'd done this earlier. In her case, it was more than obvious how her gorgeous face worked in her favor and against her at the same time. Hollywood was and is a very dark world for child stars, though not all cases are like hers. Beauty can easily become a curse. Such a sweet and humble woman. God bless her and her current happiness.

Brooke Shields as long impressed me as a smart and truly nice person. How she managed to come out so well despite the sexualized identity imposed upon her is amazing. She only a few years younger than me and even as a teen I could see she wasn't ready for the kind of attention she received. Hell, I wasn't ready for the type of attention I received as a 20 year old. Most of it gross, just as Brooke received on any given day by men old enough to be her father when she was still a little girl.

I lived next town over from her Haworth Mansion she lived in growing up. It was like a castle that stood out amongst other homes. Very wealthy area, but the architecture of the home is unique. I saw her in shop rite a couple of towns over when I was about 18 or so. Maybe a little older, probably 30 years ago. She was buying water. She was gorgeous! So tall and striking. Endless Love and Stalking Back were a couple of her movies I love.

I met Brooke in 2009 in Manhattan at a Starbucks lol. She was surprisingly engaging with me and she told me she was in town doing a play. Pleasant conversation with her overall. I ran into her 3 times that week and she actually remembered my name.
Didn't she go to Princeton (at a time when you probably couldn't get in by being a famous social activist or whatever)? I think it makes a HUGE difference that she is and has always been very intelligent - not just street-smart but old-school / academical / book-learning bright.

No one wins when one type of beauty becomes the poster of ‘what all women should be and aspire to’. To add from a child then adolescent at that. To be told she was ‘only’ beautiful and for millions who felt that she was the ‘only kind of beautiful’, also many people damaged. She is a beautiful person because of her mind and heart.
No one ever told you THATS WHAT ALL WOMEN SHOULD ASPIRE 2. But if someone or something is beautiful, it gets your attention, and if profits can be made. If you had no role models or strong parents to teach you otherwise, welp... well u got damaged by the machine.

It breaks my heart to know she went through this. I pray that her coming forward will help other young girls being put through the same thing. Young girls are not meant to be sex symbols. Just at the clothes out there for young girls and how young are posing in photos like they are models. This is the road they are heading down. Parents also need to step up and not encourage this.

I watched the documentary and it's inspiring to see how she overcame all that she went through as a kid and young adult. How was it even legal to put a child in those exploitative movies back then? How? Where were the grownups? Her mom was horrible. It was mental abuse. The fact that Brooke Shields is still here and sane is a miracle. She also touches on her battle with postpartum depression and her war of words with Tom Cruise over taking antidepressants for it.
But the thing is who says she's sane? We tend to associate insanity or mental debilitation as NOT being composed..it probably and has manifestation in many other ways..she has just mastered functionality
l'm 3 days older than Brooke. Grew up with her. Even then ...it was SHOCKING! When a Sheilds movie was opening, you knew you were in for it! Nevertheless ....we just HAD to see it. All us girls wanted to look just like her. l collected all her stuff. l think it really messes with you, as you grow up thinking ''This is the way the world is.'' lts AMAZING she never ended up a drug addict, or worse. She's a very rare individual. l thank JESUS that she made it through!

Eurgh I remember being 14ish and suddenly being aware of how lustful and creepy a lot of men can be, and feeling really frightened of them, especially old ones who seemed to be worse. And I wasn't as pretty as Brooke Sheilds or in that amount of limelight, I just lived in a tiny village.
The fact that her parents ALLOWED her to pose fully nude at 10 years old is deplorable, disgusting, shameful, and should have been illegal. Instead, the photos were published in Playboy Press publication Sugar and Spice and a judge okayed the use of the photos and if that wasn't enough she was nude in the movie Pretty Baby playing a prostitute at only 11yo. Brooke was definitely the victim, but even as an adult Brooke seems to minimize how she was exploited and excuses it away by saying it was acting and modeling in the documentary
Brooke Shields is my number one best actress. She is a true artist since 11 months old, as she describes, and still. She is the most beautiful and best acting. Knowing her personal life, the story of her mother and yet she still live as a sweet, nice, humble and friendly person to this day, it makes me more and more respectful of her. I hope she has many more blockbuster movies to come in 50s. Thanks.
