Standing up for those films and making an argument for them that treats people as adults and not children who need to be wrapped in cotton wool would've been courageous. She's not delusional. That's why she's doing this project. The movies such as "Pretty Baby" "Blue Lagoon".... They were supposed to portray some sort of twisted innocent "art". Where we saw a young woman, in a strange situation that most innocent young ladies aren't in and this is what captured audiences of all kinds. Now, we're realizing that what this "art" really translates into, is a little girl who was in child pornography and was celebrated for it and had to figure out what that meant and how to deal with it at the age of 11. And how can we stop this cycle from continuing to repeat itself because even if it's no longer legal to cast an 11 year old in a role like that, we shouldn't cast a 20 year old as being 11 and call it art just so we can sexualize these films and our society. There's nothing wrong with being beautiful, with wanting to be beautiful. There's everything wrong with a young girl thinking she's nothing if she's not looked at in that way.

This whole thing is exploitative. At 11 years old she's going to be cast as a child prostitute in Pretty Baby. Somebody had to say 'yes' to that. Her mother said 'yes' to that. Not Louis Malle and not Merv Griffin. If it is now child pornography then her mother was the 'groomer' who got her daughter into it. At 14 she's in The Blue Lagoon, again cast as a sex object. She couldn't agree to taking that part without her mother's approval. Men are not the problem here, a grown ass woman, who is supposed to be acting in her daughter's best interests, is the problem. I don't know how old she was when she did the Calvin Klein ad but she was in it for one reason and one reason only, her sexuality. She was pimped by her mother. And now that she's 'clearing all the skeletons from the closet" in this documentary film, what does she call it: Pretty Baby; the name of the movie that featured her as an 11 year old prostitute, the one that her daughters labeled 'child pornography'. I don't see bravery here, I see exploitation of a young girl by her mother, and I see the exploited Brooke Shields exploiting her own sordid past to advance the only film in decades to have her in the starring role. It all stinks.

At nine years she got her first (or second) role in a horror movie, "Alice Sweet Alice", where she was being murdered. At ten years she appeared nude in "Playboy". So there was already some traumatic history there, she was being groomed. Only after that, at twelve, was she cast as a child prostitute in "Pretty Baby" . And her (very manly looking) mother said in an interview at the time, without any shame: "I think, it's the mix of innocence and sexuality in a child what's really APPETIZING to people..." (something to this effect). With Brooke looking away, as if she is about to die.

But this can coexist with still loving her & having the maturity to contextualise her mother’s actions. It’s a lot easier for strangers on the internet to condemn her mother outright than for the daughter herself. Relationships are complex & there was still love there.

What an eloquent lady and she should be so proud of all she's achieved as an actress; especially Pretty Baby.
Loving and not blaming her mum is a good thing. No doubt, her mum had her best interests at heart and felt that she could protect her, which to a certain extent she did.
Pretty Baby is cinematically stunning albeit with a disturbing story to tell.
Brooke Shields, doesn't come across as 'provocative' in the role; as her innocence and beauty shine through; portraying a vulnerable little girl; with grace and precision as a fine, young actress; navigating life in a brothel.
However, the film shines a huge light, on the degradation of older men; who seek children out for gratuitous purposes ( remembering they are actors)
I'm glad that she was unaware of being exploitated by Hollywood at the time; and was able to escape to University and lead a more normal life.

Ikr; you know I think why she may have let Brooke do those films like Pretty Baby and Blue Lagoon? I think she saw how Linda Blair and Tatum O' Neal had taken edgy roles at young ages in films like The Exorcist and Paper Moon or Jodi Foster in Taxi Driver and she just wanted her daughter to become a huge star. Crazy how in the 70s so many edgy films had children in significant roles.

Her daughter would give anything to have the fame she does. She tries to be so "cool" like, "I'm posting the objectifying photo of myself so it's ok.".....such hypocrisy. Brooke was my idol when I was young. I am only one year younger. I still have every magazine I could get my hands on back then. I know every image of her. She was IT. I never once thought of her as sexy because I was young so most went right over my head. We loved her because she was the good girl. She embodied all that I wanted to be AS A PERSON.

Yeah you're right, these days they will either sexualize and exploit themselves or if they're underage, their mother will sign off on and give permission for them to be sexualized and exploited like in the case of what happened with Brooke Shields and those girls that were provided to R.Kelly by their mothers. You have to admit these days men don't have to do it, 99 percent of the time women do it to themselves or to other women for the most part and often times it is by choice.😐

  • @jessethepersiankitty2377

It was disturbing how she was treated as a young girl. Really sick.

I don't like how shes open to tell all about how she was sexually abused years after the event, but not ok to give any names out. It could have happened to other girls and she could have been their voice, She could have been brave enough, but instead she practically protected him. Her mother should be ashamed of herself. In my opinion i think brook shields is extremely gaslighted, and her mother made her famous and also a target. i feel very sorry for Brook Sheilds. (No matter how well she has done) 🌷

Shields is right, when you put yourself out there and sexualize yourself you can't have it both ways. You have to own it and not complain about being objectified. I think women today, especially young girls and young people in general are SO confused about boundaries and accountability. It's one thing when someone else exploits us, when we're powerless - it's something altogether different when we go out and do it ourselves and expect something different. It's like that old saying, when you do the same thing over and over and expect to get a different result it's the definition of insanity. Our society is quite frankly, a little insane.

Wait, so should not the mother have done more to protect her child. Yes both the mother and the director can be wrong.

    • @shadowseer07
      @shadowseer07 Před rokem +3

Exactly. Two things can be true at once. The mother was responsible, but the directors were also to blame for making such films with such scenes in the first place.

Paris Hilton shouldn't be compared to Brooke, Lindsay, or Britney because while, yes, she was treated bad in her 20s in the 00s by society and the media---she was NOT a teen star. She was like 22 when she first blew up in the media.
Britney was 17, Brooke was 11/12 ish, Lindsay was like 17 (when Freaky Friday and Mean Girls came out -- yes I know Parent Trap came out when she was 10). Anyways, they were truly teen stars.
Brooke is still very pretty btw. Can't believe she's 57 now!

*!!!Citizens of the United States and other NATO countries should know that your governments supply weapons to Ukrainian militants. Who have been shelling peaceful Donetsk for more than 9 years. The Ukrainian army is shelling not only peaceful Donetsk, but also many other small towns. As well as the city of Belgorod and the cities of the Kursk region. The artillery of Ukraine does not spare anyone, neither women, nor children, nor peaceful housing, nor kindergartens and schools. The United States has supplied more than two million shells for army artillery alone. Not to mention other types of weapons. Including anti-personnel mines, which also affect children. Think about it!!! Are the destroyed Vietnam, Yugoslavia, Iraq, Syria, Libya and Afghanistan not enough for you!? And now Ukraine. If you believe your TV, then remember what happened two years ago. Do you remember what they told you when they locked you at home?!? If you want to be fools, then believe them further.*
