    I see so many builds with only front brakes, as a 80`s bmx racer , only a rear break makes so much more sense, i did the same with my single speed, works great , and keeps it simple

    Looks good. Nice creative build.

    Nice bike. A gearing recommendation; with that 40 T chainring, a 16T freewheel (rear sprocket), would give you a nice 67.5 inch gear. A very versatile range that does everything well. Not wussy, but not too difficult on most moderate climbs. I’d say you’re presently pushing about a 57 inch gear, way too small for an average bloke.

    Actually ,i really like that kind of frame.it looks beautiful. Im hoping to find one similar to that on the market , or to anyone who custom build frames.

      Nice. All I would say is that mine is particularly big. I'm 6ft and find this difficult to get on and off sometimes!

      @@itstomsgarage maybe you'll get used to it haha. Could you pls.give us an update next time if ever you learn techniques on how to get on and off easily on such a big sized frame of bike. ?

      I just lean it down so I can get my leg over it haha

    Lock ring for stem of crank fits rear cog to lock sprocket. Seen on another build on you tube

    Nice bike and cheap conversion. For pedals I run platform style (Crankbrothers Stamp1 or similar) on all my single speed bikes, they are really comfy and solid

      Yeah the pedals I have on this at the moment aren’t much good. I’ll replace them at some point 👍

    I’ve never seen that style of rear dropout on a road bike. It’s ideal for single speed, however my road bike uses skewers and the drops are vertical not horizontal like yours.

    Raleigh was doing a lot of different frame materials in the 80s, I have a competition frame with 531 tubes. I also had a technium with aluminum main tubes glued to lugs. I am not sure, but I think the shifter bosses do not have a hole under. I have ground off the bosses from a Japanese bike, I left just a little of the brazing alloy, so not sure. I would probably just get the frame you want though.

    I like the “ just do it” attitude; looks like a great bike. If you want to run just one brake , you’ll need to make it a fixed gear rather than a single speed. That’s my only concern. If it were me, I’d fit another brake and find a cheap single speed/ flip flop wheel on FB marketplace or something. A 16 tooth maybe. Good luck buddy

    • @itstomsgarage
      @itstomsgarage  Před rokem

      Thanks for watching! Is that second brake just for more stopping power I assume? I've run a single brake on this bike for quite a while and never really had issues but it might be something to consider!

    • @bedathprop
      @bedathprop Před rokem +1

      @@itstomsgarage it’s just the law I’m afraid. If you’re using a freewheel you need two brakes. Fixed gear bikes don’t have a freewheel- if the wheel’s moving, the pedals move-so you can use your legs to slow down ( apparently..) and can get away with a single brake. It’s up to you buddy, but if you get knocked off it might affect any insurance. But it’s great that you recycled an old bike and put it back on the road.

    It's really tall.
    Looks like a 64cm frame.

    It's called chainring, not sprocket.
