Microsoft is considering another Xbox Game Pass price increase, debating whether to launch new COD games day one into the service.
The acquisition of Activision Blizzard has increased Microsoft scrutiny on Xbox.
The reason that Tango was axed was explicitly because they had released a successful video game, and were pitching a sequel that would've necessitated new hires. That's not speculation, that's literally what we're being told. You can't reform the leadership that thinks like this. Microsoft is considering increasing the price of Game Pass Ultimate again. It's also had internal debates on whether to put new Call of Duty releases on Game Pass.

Truth is new subcribers at 14 buck a month does not bring in the revenue compared to 70 bucks for new copies from all gamers that wanted to play. Subscriber models may get more players but not the revenue.
You had to go to grad school to learn the complete opposite.
Well, WHAT THEY WERE HOPING FOR is that Game Pass would prove to be such an irresistible deal to people that they would’ve quickly garnered DOUBLE or TRIPLE the subscriber number within this timeframe so they would’ve had a MUCH MORE RELIABLE “safety net” of recurrent revenue to help keep all these operations afloat.
Unfortunately, though, between Game Pass self-cannibalizing their game sales and Game Pass subscriber number growth COMPLETELY STALLING OUT shortly after the pandemic, things didn’t work out for them and now they’re burning the candle FROM BOTH ENDS.

Dude the average person buys 3 major AAA titles a year... A lot of people don't even buy anything because they're younger and younger gamers prefer online games as a service with battle pass. At the end of the day streaming does bring way more money. Microsoft is just stupid and can't capitalize on anything EVER, and we're acting like they don't have the money regardless in order to get their shit together. 100% knew this would happen, and even called it on a comment yesterday! Gamepass was always going to be unsustainable financially (as I've said 100 times now: a 70$ game needs 7 subscriptions to equal the cost of 1 sale), yet Xbox execs convinced Microsoft that "Netflix of gaming" was possible. now Microsoft has spend 100 BILLION over the past 5 years and are now realizing "Oh crap, Phil was a complete moron". They HAVE to make this money back, and the only real options here are increasing Gamepass's cost, ending day one games and bringing/keeping their new acquisitions as multiplatform. None of this should be a surprise.
Your logic is wrong though. The game at $70 might not sell well, and even then, how many games stay at $70? the vast majority of gamers on all platforms dont bother buying day and date, because the games usually launch half broken, and if you wait a few weeks you can get it alot cheaper. The subscriptions allow the companies to lower risk by having a garunteed income for the project. That is why you are seeing ubisoft and Ea try to launch there own subscription services

Disney+ isn't profitable. Disney hopes they can be profitable in 2 years but their content had falloff. Prime video isn't profitable. That is why amazon added ads. Paramount isn't profitable. They are trying to sell themselves right now. Warner isn't profitable. They are billions in debt. The only major service that become profitable is Netflix and that only just happened like a year ago. The things that every critic of the Game Pass model has been saying for years is coming true. No one should be surprised, yet so many people are acting like this is some out of nowhere development.
I really hope all those fanboys who were talking like Phil Spencer was their personal friend are re-evaluating their relationship with the companies in their lives. Don't trust any multi-billion dollar company. They aren't your friends. They only care about your money, and there's nothing inherently bad about that. It's how business works. But companies need to realize the best way to get consumers' money is by providing good products and services.

Developers make barely any money out of GamePass. Its unsustainable and if it continues plenty more devs will close.
Buying and shutting down Tango is unforgivable. I paid full price for Ghostwire and platinumed the game. It wasn't perfect but the traversal was fun and I enjoyed collecting everything. Shame it has to end this way but they ended on a HiFi note.

I never really used game pass despite owning an xbox one x for 7 years due to having a gaming pc, but I recently started using game pass more in order to try out new games I'm interested in without having to buy them on steam individually.
I'm the type of gamer who will buy 1 game every 2-3 years and play it to death for over a decade.
Games like
Rust, Terraria, Simcity 2013, Age of Empires 2 & 3, Diablo 3, Civilization 5 & 6.
I never really understood why people said gamepass was great. Until I started actually putting more energy into trying out new games.

Weirdly the best thing that could have have happened to Xbox’s longevity is getting denied buying activation. That would have kept them from being under the radar for a while.
the most shocking bit of news is that there are people who didn't see this coming. gamepass was a bad idea off rip. the fact nearly no one in the gaming industry spoke out against it is what let things get this out of hand. now we're all suffering the consequences while phil and his shareholders' pockets keep getting fatter with every studio they shut down.
Can't wait for the FTC seeing what they agree to by letting microshaft buy activision blizzard when they went to court. mayeb this time the FTC will come out and tell mcirosoft they have to sell activision blizzard or let them go 3rd party.

I’ve been telling people for years that streaming services or things like Gamepass are going to just keep going up up UP UP and UP in price. Those low prices from the past? Yeah kiss them goodbye. The death of physical media only gives them more firepower to increase prices. If you want to play a game (or watch a movie) there’s no other way to play (or watch) it except for their absurdly high priced service.

It's going to take time for Xbox to restructure. Tango was basically shinji mikami. When he left the studio ceased to be. I am surprised Xbox didn't absorb the staff into helping on other projects. Maybe they got the choice and fancied a break from work with a good severance package? I'm sure Xbox isn't doomed though. They may have bitten off more than they can chew but time is an incredible instrument. I'm sure they will make good their promises. I reckon a new era of gaming is approaching. Either that or I've been in the sun for too long 😅

I canceled PlayStation Plus because it sucks of monthly games.

Oi ps5 has smashed it so far, people forget games like res evil 4 in vr is only available on PlayStation, it’s next level. The type of level xbox could never achieve. ‘The’ showcase is about to happen, perfect timing after the release of its last title from its previous roadmap. Seems like they know what they’re doing.

Like any subscription service, it starts off pretty small, gets good, hits a peak and then begins to fall and become unsustainable and too expensive for the consumer. I rekon were at the tipping point this year with gamepass.
I won't be spending £158 per year just to try out games and access online multiplayer ontop of an internet bill I already pay for!
I've also noticed input lag on most gamepass games event if played locally. This is gonna be the death of subscription based bulk game servers just watch. I for one would rather just buy games and be able to play it offline or online.

I never got the hype for gamepass. It actively hurts the industry and profits in general while the price of games and creating them go up with no signs of stopping. The game industry has become so unsustainable, and people are getting so many games for cheap. I expect game pass to go up by upwards of 500% or more. Im also expecting a games crash of some kind. Even when you sell millions of copies, that still aint enough for some companies profit wise. Microtransactions are to blame also as they are lumped in with video game profits and inflate it too high for investors and shareholders.
