    Bought a Dodge truck years ago cheap due to a "bad transmission " changed transmission filter and put in new fluid, cured the slipping, ran it for a few years with no problems, clogged filter will give you shifting problems!

    Maxlife is the truth especially for ZF boxes. I’ve never been the type of person who blindly follows brand names but you can actually measure the benefits with a before and after of the temps and shift quality.

    Hello, I use on a new/rebuilt transmission (46RH) Phillips VersaTrans , (NOT LV) I also used it on an 300,000 mile 727. I use the Valvoline on a older Subaru with pretty good success, I just changed it (320,000 total miles with about 50,000 on the Fluid) and the Valvoline was still pretty red and clear. I let it drain overnight and had to put 5 quarts back in so the converter must have drained down a bit also. Great video, thanks

    Soooo reasurring on this video. I did a ton of research before doing trans fluid changes in my japanese cars and that same Vavoline syntetic fluid kept coming up in groups. It made me nervous to deviate from the owner's manual, but serious wrenchers can't all be wrong. I put it in my wife's sienna and one daughters honda rsx. I used the method of disconnecting the cooling line to flush until it ran clean, stopping and adding as two quarts of old were spit out. I even used it in a steering rack I did for a friend. I will need to do my daughters 2006 e83 and I will use this. Love this channel!

    Update, completed first drain and fill. Went through the gears 10 times 15 second between each. Drove in naughborhood 0-25, 15min, main streets 0-45 10min, freeway 0-75 30miles. Majority of symptoms gone. Second drain and fill buttery smooth, 0-25 10min, 0-45 10min. Will update on filter change. Didn't realize how sideways the transmission had gotten until the second drain and fill. I honestly can't feel the shift unless I'm watching the rpm's

    Stay away from the uro aluminum pan for the 8hp. Zero to60 tried one and it almost destroyed his trans. The filter stem was too small to get a good seal and it was sucking up air and some fluid. I prefer to disco the cooler line, pump 2-3 quarts into a bucket, top off and repeat untill it's clean fluid then change filter, top off and your done

    Older E53 model. I splurged on the OEM $200 ZF oil and filter (a waste in my older car)- was my second go around. Car did have Valvoline in it before - so its all mixed up. Anyway, the fluid change procedure calls for specific temperature monitoring and filling. I have used an infrared handheld point and shoot type temperature monitor on the pan to check the temperatures. Is that representative of a relatively accurate temperature monitoring ??

    I bought my 2007 Volvo S40 (Aisin 50-55 automatic transmission) with 93k miles on it. I noticed when cruising in torque converter lock-up, it seemed to slip or unlock and lock up again. I did a flush (remove the return hose from the transmission cooler and pump out 4 quarts at a time) soon after I bought it and ever since (over 150k miles on it now) it shifts beautifully. I’ve done at least 1 transmission oil drain/refill since the initial flush and another flush at the 142.5k service. I’ve used Volvo genuine ATF and Idemitsu ATF (both fully synthetic).

    • @pugs1377
      @pugs1377 Před 2 lety +1

      Ah, the old shift flare. A Volvo trans will last a long time if you keep doing what you did. They have no filter so all the crap is constantly flowing in the fluid. In the past I did a full flush about every 50k and sold one with about 275k on the original trans that shifted perfect.

And I’m the one who commented I used the Valvoline on an E60’s power steering (“should” be CHF) and it was A-OK for a few years up to the point mom totalled it. Now that Valvoline says their ATF works in 92% of light duty transmissions made after 2010 what are your thoughts? I’m still a believer but how can this stuff work in Mercon and Dexron vehicles? Will the transmissions still last as long? Maybe the point is to do drain and fills sooner than later like engines and all will be well…

    I got a 2006 X5 3.0L (5L40-E transmission, auto GM 5-speed). Car only has 72,300 miles. I bought the Liquid Moly Service Kit for it when I bought the car at 65,500 miles. Mainly because I bought the car and it was not running and had no idea if the transmission was ok, previous owner said it was ok, but owning a E39 in the past...brought back doubts lol. Once the car was fixed up and I was able to drive it, the transmission shifted so smooth and effortless (literally like a brand new car). So I never went through the trouble to change the transmission filter and fluid. I don't believe in the old BMW "Lifetime fluid" bs.
    Should I just do the transmission fluid/filter ASAP or should I just change it before I hit 100k? I'm also thinking about selling my X5 so its one of those things of... should I just do it, or give the kit to the owner to do it?

    after very extensive reaserch including input from retired GM ATF Committee member I choose to stay away from anyting that says Dexron VI even if BMW specs are on it - of course for any GM transmission 2006 and older,,,,Dexron III or IIIH is the spec for these 5L40E and ZF, GM which is obsolete and replaced by Dexron VI,,,according to the GM man it is safer to use Dex III /IIIH rather than DexVI due to additives being added from API Group IV in DexVI which are not safe for some seals, bearings, rubbers, connectors etc. etc. etc..( worth mentioning- not safe for little components not the transmission itself) DexIII uses additives from API Group II base oils which at the time ( 20 years back and older) were not synthetics and safe for these little placstic/rubber/ seal components. He also had mentioned that DexIII is obsolete and GM does not license it to anyone, if you see it they are mostly backward compatibile oils like DexVI or ' it is recommended in place of Dex III ',,,on the other hand aftermarket marked D2, D3, D4 - are TRUE respective dexron specs,,,, he says that D2,D3, D3M, D4 etc. are mostly true to their meaning - old dexronII/IIE & dexronIII/IIIH- but they cannot use that OE trade name,,,also if you want to stay on a safe side use TES-295 specs with rigorous attention to most seals , includinf viton seals- not only in a transmission itself but all kind of hoses, connectors, filter, seals, lines and washers etc etc., of that era,,, so check the blue Valvoline that says DEX/Merc - front label says: recommended for dexIII / mercon, 2006 GM and older ; back label lists BMW specs,,, OR blue Valvoline Import Multi Vehicle, why ??? becasue it is compatible with all Japanease/ European/American vehicles of that era, it also has the respective automakers specs recommendations on the back ,,,but DexVI is nowhere to be found on it.....

    Nathan, et al, I have a BMW E36 Automatic 113K miles, atf never changed. Recently, when the trans is cool it is sluggish shifting 2 to 3. After driving a few miles, shifting is normal. If I come to a quick stop and then accelerate, there is some slippage. e.g. Quickley coming to a stop at a red light and then promptly turning right on red, the trans may slip. Two trans shops said not to do anything because changing the aft and filter will make it worse. You debunk this in your video. I just wanted to make sure that changing the aft is the right thing to do with these symptoms. Should I just add fluid, drain the pan and add new fluid or remove and replace the filter? What aft is compatible with the original oem aft? Thanks.

       @BJ-fk9sq I ended up just draining all the ATF that would come out by just removing the pan plug. Did not remove the pans. Filled it as recommended. This solved my problem and probably have an additional 8k miles on it. So far so good. I think I will repeat the same thing soon.

    I am reaching out to my favorite CZcams mechanics to start to test Mobil 1 full synthetic multi vehicle ATF (grey bottle black label) and Amsoil OE Fuel Efficient full synthetic ATF. According to my favorite engineering blogger/engine builder RAT540 who’s now torture tested at least 298 individual engine oils and recently gear and ATF. He ranks that Mobil1 multivehicle full synthetic ATF (gray bottle/black label) as his best performing oil under his unique engineering torture test. Amsoil ATFs also test really well particularly the least expensive “OE Fuel Efficient ATF” if you want thinner viscosity. But he has stated even the marginally thicker Mobil 1 grey bottle black label will work in any light duty automatic transmission. He actually says the Valvoline Maxlife full synthetic ATF seized immediately the same as Mobil blue bottle and Ford Mercon LV iirc. Shocking I know. It might be “probably ok” as long as routine maintenance is done sooner than later, but RAT540 is usually ON THE MONEY…

    Can you help me? Bmw e39 523i M52 loses suddenly power on the highway and the rpm drops down. But after this the engine runs again normally and starts normally until this power loss happens again on the highway. One time after power loss I drove very slow and engine was stall. But after this I could turn the engine on again and no light and no fault codes. What is the problem? Automatic transmission fluid is now changed and this power loss was happened again.

      Same thing happened to me. I have a Nissan Sentra 2005. I had a stall where the revolutions almost went down to zero but the engine didn't stop. I quickly went to a gas station and checked for codes since I have my scanner with me. No codes at all. When the problem happened I was on an overpass so there was an inclination. I don't know if it has anything to do with it. I haven't done anything since it hasn't happened again. Did you find out anything? Maybe a loose serpentine?
