INTRODUCING OUR BARN FIND AMERICAN SUPERCAR PROJECT - RARE CORVETTE C4 ZR-1 PART 1 - COLLECTION DAY

- In this episode we join Jonny Smith off of @smithandsniff and @TheLateBrakeShow to uncover a rare Corvette C4 ZR-1 from 1991, where it has been sat untouched for 18 years...
Join us as we fill the tyres, tickle it with the Karcher lance and nurse it onto our trailer so it can begin it's new life!
This video is more of an intro to the project because we didn't manage to capture much footage on the day but there will be lots of in depth build updates on this car coming very soon!
Please subscribe for more on this cheeky brute of thing :) We will restore it and give it lots of well deserved TLC, and we will film the whole thing from start to finish!

Me too! Subscribed.
Guys and girls!! Thank you so much for checking in and joining us in our adventure trying to resurrect this old beast!! ❤❤❤❤ I’ll check back and reply to all of your comments over the next day or so, I’m on holiday in Morocco this week and completely overwhelmed with the unbelievable response we’ve had! More updates coming soon and the next video goes live at 5.00pm next Sunday 😊😊😊😊 thanks for watching! Llewelyn and Chris
Have a great holiday!
Im sure your channel will be in double figures by time you get back! 😀
Any questions you have or parts you need can be found at the zr1netregistry website. I brought a long dead ZR-1 back to life a couple years ago. If you try to crank it before you get oil pressure You will have loud clanking of the cam chains due to the tensioners not being pumped with oil so be careful.
The fuel pumps and sender are most likely trash and the injectors especially as this has been sitting for so long I'm sure they are factory injectors.
Enjoy your holiday in Morocco, looking forward to catching up with the progress of the new project 😀 👍
I think Jonny may bring you one or two more subscribers :)
Good luck with this project , can't wait to hear that engine burst back into life .
I’m here as the others have said, because of Jonny Smith.
Love the car, good luck with your restoration.
As an American watching, I'm impressed that you found one to begin with. I am very interested in how it progresses. Good luck. Thabk you Jonny and @thelatebrakeshow for the heada up.
Jonny sent me here guys. Well done in bringing it home safely. Will now be watching your videos as Iv'e always loved the Corvettes, ZR1 particularly! John from London!
Jonny sent me…. Good luck with the resurrection project
Here via Jonny Smith, love Corvette’s, ZR1 is the daddy!! All the best with the recommissioning!👍👍👍
I’ve visited due to Johnny Smith, but I’ll be staying for the content. Looks brilliant.
Jonny Smith sent me too I just love the man
Excellent..Johnny smith is a good man
He’s an excellent fellow.
I brought my 91 ZR1 in 93 and gave it to my nephew 3 years ago (he keeps it insured for me as well), I have had to recommission it a couple of times over the years. Here are a few things that might give you grief, fuel injectors old GM injectors were steel and if they got a whiff of ethanol they rust up (RC Fuel Injection), fuel pumps, there are two of them, IAC (idle air control) valve and if the plugs, plug wires and coils are original you will need them (11.25:1 compression needs a healthy spark), if you can get them AC Delco parts are the best on this car. As you can imagine over the years I have had a few upgrades listed in fun and effect, 4.10:1 rear diff, then it is hard to separate, FlowMaster exhaust, Energy Suspension urethane bushings, Morrison Motorsport EPROM (yes from Tommy at the beginning of the video). I am looking forward to watching your build and give me a shout if you have something that you are stuck on I might be able to help.
Wow James, thanks for the info! I would love to do some upgrades such as a chip tune, exhaust, polybushes etc but for now we’ve got our work cut out with the basics! :) I can see me spending a lot on parts and shipping! 😭😅😅
@@Auto_Funk Having shipped over lots of Corvette parts because I can get them cheaper there than I can here in the UK, try and get all your parts consolidated in one box over there, Summit and Ecklers are good at this. As for upgrades the final drive will give you the biggest kick, OEM gearing was for Federal emissions / mileage stuff and made 6th gear all but useless. When you get it going you will find the OEM exhaust very disappointing. Bushings, there was some discussion at the time about were they trying to build a Cadillac, quiet and compliant? Urethane bushes give the front end a really nice accurate pointy feel but if you put them all round like I did quite hardcore and that is what I wanted. As for the EPROM I would be surprised if you can get one these days as very few people even know what they are. In real terms on a well tuned NA engine it doesn't make much difference to final output just more aggressive getting there. I have DIACOM OBT data logging software and the cable that goes with it but I don't have a 386 Windows machine to run it on, do you? What I didn't mention is vacuum leaks and the IAC valve between them they can make barely running into smooth as. When you study the throttle body you will see a tiny butterfly at the bottom, as with everything else important. More to follow as you go.
Via Johnny Smith, Good luck chaps!
As a former owner of 1996 LT4 Corvette I appreciate your effort to restore this beautiful C4. I'll be following your progress.

Nice to hear those immortal words offered up to anything secured on a trailer: 'that's not going anywhere" 😂😂

Thank you Scott!
Same here , watching the rebirth after Johnny Smith plug. Great car.
I commented on the LBS video. I have a 93 base c4 and a 91 ZR1. The 93 has 160,000 miles and looks like it. Still fun and drives great. The ZR1 has 110,000 miles and looks like it has 10k. It was obviously very well looked after and loved until a few months before I bought it. The guy had to move and had to move it outside. Parked under a tree so the rubber surround around the gas cap clogged up and after a very wet winter filled the gas tank up with 8 gallons of water. I had a video of it running great before I bought it so I knew it was something simple. Pumped the fuel and water out with the in tank pump and it started up immediately. I finally replaced the smoked clutch and it's one of my favorite cars in my collection.
I think this is what happened here, the "fuel" in the tank was more like pond water!
Late break show brought me here too
F ya! You blokes have at at! Gained a sub because this is cool and I got a 91 ZR1 so gonna be fun to watch. Thanks for this wicked cool. Cheers from Maine ovah heeah across pond! 🍻

#5 video on your channel already. Oh the love of Johnny 🙏
Same as other guys , Johnny got me here. Great stuff, get her going.
Hello am the proudly owner of a zr1 c4 92 #150. Great to see you guys bring it back to life. I'f you have some questions. I can happily try to help you guys out. Quick tip to get all that nasty fuel out. Besides the ecu in Engine Bay it a wiring harness. There you can find one waier lose in the harness. Apply 12v to it. And you you start the fuel pumps. And then you can empty all of that tasty fuel out. And I bet you find some bad stuff under the plenum. I highly recommend of talking every vacum line out and delete the secondaries. And order a haibeck chip. And the starter is probably stuck. Or like mine. Mouse had chewed the cables and made a nest inside 😳
You might find some triggering footage in a future episode :D!
The fuel was absolutely grim! Might as well have had pond water in it.
I hear removing the secondaries is a popular mod and worth a few bhp! But we kind of like the quirky nature of using that second key!
Here on the Late Brake Show bus.... 👍
Jonny is such a genuine and nice guy!!
Me too good luck guys 😊
All the very best, superb project!
Johnny sent me over to this side of things. Sweet, sweet channel.

Good luck fellas, I remember autocar testing this in about 90-91 when I was about 13. The front cover was a rear wheel smoking off the line...things like that stick in your head at that age lol. Great find and subbed to follow your progress 👍
