  • A single Blackwell GPU will offer about 20 petaflops of AI performance-or 20 quadrillion operations per second. This breaks down to four times the training performance and 30 times the inference performance of Nvidia's Hopper GPU, which is the top of the line product now.

    I think people there were far quieter than he was expecting, because each of his words were equally important to us.
    People didn't want to miss a single word he said by laughing or cheering.
    Maybe he didn't emphasize and lead the audience in a way to make it clear when a response was appropriate.
    For me at home, I listened to every single word he said. I even watched it again.

    My definition of AGI is simple: Can do anything that an average human can do.

    • @bigglyguy8429
      @bigglyguy8429 Před měsícem +1

      That would require arms and legs, eyes, ears etc. To me it means it can understand what you mean, just like a human would. No 'prompt engineering' or API or some mess from Github, just something that truly understands the meaning of your words. And I don't mean the chirpy, cheesy assistant vibe with ambiguous wording, like Pi, I mean really understand. Next step, a working memory as good as a human, so it's not constantly forgetting what you told it last week, or even the last 10 minutes.

    • @torarinvik4920
      @torarinvik4920 Před měsícem +1

      @@bigglyguy8429Yes, I agree mostly. But imo it would also need the ability to navigate the real world. So for instance if you had one on your phone it could tell you where to go in the grocery store to pick up a product in real-time. Or it could control a robot to assemble a couch. If we're talking about a digital only entity that doesn't understand human communication and interaction in the world I would call it something else like for instance "Virtual AGI" or pseudo-AGI.

    • @allanshpeley4284
      @allanshpeley4284 Před měsícem

      I would consider it AGI if it can perform functions on a computer as well as an average human. Of course, I would expect a better memory and far higher accuracy after training. And ideally, the ability to train it to reach out if it encounters a scenario it's not familiar with.

  • @FusionDeveloper
    @FusionDeveloper Před měsícem +10

    1/4 the power requirement alone, means you could scale up by 4 times and break even on power consumption.
    However, the computational gain is far beyond 4 times. Massive Upgrade.
    The ability to pull out a Hopper rack and put in a Blackwell rack is fantastic planning. This means super computers can be upgraded as funding becomes available, in intervals.

    In a few years I really believe outsiders will look back at '23 and '24 as the years that changed technology forever. Compute is the bottleneck right now and not just for scaling and having AI everywhere. Cheaper, faster training makes it easier to answer questions about transformers and alternative architectures. So many ML papers out there propose improvements but can't train big models to better investigate their findings because of the cost. We're in for some wild times.

    AI's progress is always accelerating through a specific gradient, the rate and stages it's released is what everyone looks at to conclude it's slowed down. Like Altman said he may start releasing more models such as 4.3, 4.4 and 4.5 etc which would keep the front and back ends on a similar track but even then the back end with remain several models ahead of the public release, as everything does really... according to Jobs himself they invented and produced the iPad 3rd generation first, and just after the iPhone was released... they were told it's too much of a jump, so they had to shelve it and devolve the iPad back 2 stages, then when it's released you have the next 2 years of releases basically ready and so you can always have 2 years of development to make every further release incrementally better at a controlled rate.
    Altman would probably make a good congressman because he can answer questions that seem like you are getting something and then you realise afterwards he answered none of the questions really 'Filibuster Sam'
