- In this video, I explain two different styles of removable ceiling panels for your van build. Both using the same mounting system. And a new way to install your typical RV air conditioner to allow for more headroom inside. Wiring safety is of great importance to me, and here I explain a few things you can do to improve the safety of your van wiring.

I am a kitchen designer and builder from los Angeles. I am going to convert a short city bus from Guadalajara into a RV. Your idea of using unused space 99% of the time into a pantry is brilliant and I hope you don't mind I am going to use your idea. I understand why you didn't do it in Mr & miss sprinter van but that idea is genius.

Amazing build.
I parked too close to the trolley return bay at shopping the other day, and I turned too sharply, too soon, as I left my parking spot and subsequently scraped the entire side of my Iveco 35S16 van along the pipe structure of the trolley return bay. Thank God for the rafter liners, that’s all I can say, otherwise I would have had a totally scraped and dinted van. A good lesson to learn so early in my van ownership. I was so relieved that the liners saved my van.

FYI just wanted to tell you that when I had a van with no insulation on the floor it was very cold. When I stopped at a flea market on a Wednesday there was a man selling very thick black foam rubber! As much as you want in width and length! So I bought enough to put on my walking area. OMGOSH my feet never wore slippers again! My piece is like a 2x4 and is easy to fold and take out during the summer months. It’s like the black rubber that is around a hair dressers chair. Cushioned and not cold. It’s about 1” thick or maybe alittle less. Just thought you might want to know? Live your show and work man ship!

Love your work. Great attention to detail. Good that you put the heavy items Over the axle but don't forget that the vehicles weight rating takes into a count the loading on all axles. Mass centralization Is important for a vehicles handling and stability. I think that people tend to think that you can only load the rear axle. Many overlander build have so much hanging out the back with boxes bikes bumpers and spare wheel that they must handle terribly. You end up with the tail wagging the dog. Something folks should consider.
Absolutely correct! The Vagabond van was going to load up their garage so that’s why I put the water tank under the galley, across from the fridge. To balance the overall weight. The four corners of that van

So many interesting details...creativity and craftsmanship without peer.I’m glad my build is taking so long (seems like 90% thinking about the build and10% building) because you give me important tips that improve it every week, even little things like taking wiggle out of the wire looms. And I prefer the weekly summaries with short clips of building because the condensed info is so rich with great ideas. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
You are absolutely correct when you say that a van build is 90% thinking. This is the reason I take ten months to build a van. Each one is a ground up new design, starting from scratch, so to speak. I run through all kinds of scenarios and situations in my pea brain to test my ideas. All night long! 😩
I figure you must be too busy to post more videos…our loss. Hope all is going well. I do have a question: Are you an Espar dealer? I seem to recall this. I’ve searched you videos for installing Espar D2 air heater and cannot find an air-only inside installation. Have you done this? I want to install this on the 5/8” wood floor over 1” XPS. I’m trying to figure out how big a cut that I need to make on the wood floor. Does the whole heater need to be dropped to floor or can the cut be made just for the mounting plate to cover with the heater at the level of wood floor. Thanks for your support.
This was perfect timing for my promaster build. I'm a little flabbergasted on how I'm going to frame out the walls and ceiling.
Btw I used lizard skin on inside. But I didn't use it on floors. I think it's designed more to insulate you from a heat source.

The pantry is even better now because they are adjustable. Seriously! every time I watch your show I'm left with a mind-blowing lady boner (in my brain, calm down now haha). Your minds are just so amazingly sharp with so many wonderful ideas. I can't help but learn something new, and be impressed every time I watch. You have that something special not everyone has, I call it McGiver Skills. Keep killing the van game. You are obviously exactly where you belong right now! So impressed constantly by your building skills.
Great video as always! Do you have any suggestions you would like to share on selecting a portable, reliable, and efficient inverter generator? I'm doing my first build and keeping everything simple and easy. Thanks for any suggestions, tips, etc.
Just a quick hint: the structure of the shorter Pro Master (or Ducato etc.) is more consistent. It seems like they inserted parts without changing the rest.

Hi George, I’m stealing your brilliant idea on on making bath bigger by leaving doors partially open when in use, the thing I’m changing is to extent shower tray past doors 1ft and have door filler panel on piano hinge. Need to figure out how to make extended shower drain look good when doors are closed. All class b’s front bath have a problem with narrow size.

Great video George! Love the outtakes! Are the furring strips and roof stringers both bolted on/through with plusnuts or are the furring strips glued and screwed? Your videos have helped me immensely planning my own build. Your design sensibility of making things modular, removeable and inspectable is exactly what I strive for in my design. It would be so cool if you had a book or ebook that went over some of your design principles and things that could be helpful to new builders. There are a lot of other builders who have done that, but in my opinion you are one of the best out there in terms of design principles as well as the finished product. Great work.
Thank you Mike! The Sprinter van is all PlusNuts. The Promaster, being a much lighter ceiling system, is glued and screwed. I don't have any type of formal How-To guides, but have thought about doing a week long build gathering tutorial in a campground somewhere, could become a thing!

I would STILL put some reflectix strips behind the ceiling panel... Better than air gap insulation. In the desert you need all the wall and ceiling insulation you can get. Floor runners and rugs with a yoga mat attached for thermal and cush insulation is a great option. If you don't like the rug, throw it out and get a new one. They are cheap and easy to replace. 4-ought cables, the shorter you can make them the more efficient they are. Try angled connectors to minimize the flexing you need to accommodate bending the cable. Build an extended bus bar for them to improve your angle options. AC? Just go with a mini-split. Less power, more efficient. Don't like the size of the head cassette? Maybe get a low profile ceiling mount version. Love the space saving efficiencies you are making here. Some day, a special company will make tiny-home / van sized furniture and counter space. 24" wide is a waste of space (IMO).

if the mdf is bolted tight, the small shiplap sectors do not move or make noise while driving. did i understand right sir ? 😊😊

Thinsulate can be mounted either way. The black fabric affords better adhesion. Then my second layer of thinsulate goes the opposite way

I know you use top quality everything in your builds, but if I'm going to dream to be rich, I need to know about how rich I need to be. His builds are between $225K and $400K. Why not build yourself instead of waiting for a man to do it? What do you think these videos are for, gal? Start. Now. You have two hands and a brain, same as any man. And you are a better cook, I'm willing to bet.
If you have to ask, you cant afford it. Just know a factory-built (cheaper) model starts at around 100k. Class B units are definitely not cheap. For sure, all of the parts George puts into these are top of the line products. (IMO, even though some are top of the line, there are perfectly good knock-off components out there at a fraction of the cost.)

For 12 years I've watched shops come and go and they all slide toward cookie-cutter business models, even when their websites tout the care you actually provide. You seem to hire the best as well. Thank you! I use an old Rode wireless set up directly into my Sony camera. Editing is in Adobe Audition. Then port into Adobe Premiere.
