Lemke's Lagoon! CLOTHING OPTIONAL Swimming Hole of the Yuba River
Vložit

- The South Fork Yuba River has an abundance of killer swimming holes like Hoyt's Crossing, Lemke's Lagoon and so many more unnamed nooks and crannies to explore. You can't go wrong! The water is much warmer than the upstream swimming holes at Emerald Pools and the hike to Lemke's is a quick 1.5 miles. Be advised: according to some signage that we saw along the trail, clothing is PROHIBITED at some of these spots, lol.

My name is Jesse St Louis (AKA Infamous JSL) and I'm an actor that likes to go on awesome adventures between gigs. I've been called a "no frills Bear Grylls" but mostly I've been called an Actor. Traveler. Smart-ass.
INFAMOUS /ˈinfəməs/ in-fuh-muh s/ (adjective) - legendary, fabled, famed, outrageous, shocking, scandalous, notorious
That place is a top contender for my favorite California swimming hole (from what I have seen so far). South Fork Yuba River is basically god's gift to swimming hole aficionados.
Thank you very much for showing us all these places they're awesome 😎
my old stomping ground. Been skinny-dipping north of the Hwy. 49 Bridge a zillion times. Thanks for the memories!
I guess it's not north. Don't know what I was thinking. I meant upstream from the Hwy 49 Bridge
Great to see Gilbert" and his favorite swimming hole and also catch a glimpse of Pat. Must be 15-20 years since we had so much fun traveling Yosemite in his VW Thing. Coming in late May, will definitely do the Yuba!
awesome dude admiring your energy
Thanks man. 🤙
This looks AMAZING, gotta go. We just went to Edward's Crossing to Spring Creek Falls. Also nude sunbathing on this trail and poison oak lol.
So beautiful thank you for sharing👍👍👍👍
🤙thanks for watching
I've have so much fun along the south yuba. By far my favorite river In the United states
Lol Your wife is funny, keep being my inspiration guys. Ty
Thanks brother
Awesome! So glad you made it to Lemke's! Hope you made it to Oregon Creek too!
It was great. No we ran out of time on Oregon Creek
@@JesseStLouis That's alright...you'll catch it on your way back through next year! It really is spectacular and unique. Feels like you're in a scene from Jurassic Park just waiting for a T-Rex to come trompin' through. Kyler and I invented the "T-rex Swim Stroke" there. Silly but really funny to watch him do it.
Amazing 😍👌.
Right on, thanks for watching
Oh I am going there! Sweet
Nice, enjoy
Hilarious 🙌 we stayed in Grass Valley and went to the Yuba River at Yankee Jim’s Bridge had a blast, went to Tahoe as well, so close from there, excellent video as always. Stay infamous.
We try to get to Downieville (both the Yuba & Downie Rivers converge right there in Downieville) each Summer for its pristine rivers and overall ambience. No craziness, and this time we stayed at Downieville River Inn & Resort (great beds, nice property, nice owners, nice neighbors, no noise, and it's right on the river, very nice watering hole about 1/4 mile walk from this Inn at Willoughby's on the River). We had such a good time! First day we took this trail trek (not for the faint of heart, wear proper shoes & watch for poison oak!) from "the 49 bridge" for about a mile and ended up at Hoyt's Cove. The water at this elevation is warm enough you don't need a wetsuit, but you might at the higher elevations cos it's ALL snow melt runoff!
Lots of nude sunbathing, but it's not my thing. I don't care what others do. Everyone was friendly, the lagoons at this level were deep, and great swimming. Did not make it to Lemkes Lagoon, but hope to on another voyage. Sorry to invade the space, we try to leave it was we found it, and hope others are as diligent about removing their trash! Don't be lazy, take a trash bag with you if necessary and clean up after yourselves! Paradise doesn't remain so pristine when people are lazy about their trash.
thank you for your LNT actions... it's important for all of us to leave no trace and keep these places prisitine👐
Its great to see you traveling NorCal! I live in Sacramento and it is awesome to learn of new places to explore!
Dominic...I'm near Sac too! Wanna adventure together? Jesse will vouch for me...I think. I know many sweet spots and always looking for others to go with.
Check out Pine River ! It’s a dope spot
Your wife to cute & funny. It’s like she still young at heart 😂😂😂
Yes, she's the BEST
Beautiful place man was that on the week end you were there?
How exactly did you get there ? I’m going in 2 days and I really need to know .thanks !
Can some one give me the address to the bridge or how to get there?
Hey Jesse, planning a road trip in April. how bad (cold) would the water be any clue
Probably really cold and dangerously high flow
How do I get there?
I kno this a year later but please can I get the direct address to this!
Hey, I just went to Hoyt Crossing today, and I was not able to find Lemke’s lagoon. Ppl at Hoyt crossing pool told me that the trail was no longer existing after Hoyt crossing. Is there any way to get there?
Not sure sorry, I'm not sure of the latest conditions
So, there’s gotta be somewhere to get there since you’ve been there! I think the trail is not closed or something, but ppl just do not know where that is.
Oh yeah... we had to climb down some rock cliffs. Pretty SKETCHY but if you have grippy shoes and are a decent climber, it shouldn't be a problem
Did u make it there I’m going tomorrow
@@jameschoi2109 SAME situation !!!!! I went to hoyts crossing for a week even the cute private spots and I COULDNT find any track to get to lemkees!!!!!!
It’s driving me crazy . Did u find it in the end
By far the best river to swim in! I left California (unfortunately had to) 7 years ago for Texas. There are a lot of "rivers" in TX but they got NOTHING like what we have in California (there are no mountains in Texas = Boo Hoo). I used to drive 6 hours to get to this spot on the South Fork of the Yuba. It was a trip we did numerous times in the summer - always worth the drive. Unfortunately the area around the parking lot gets so crowded full of NINCOMPOOPS you have to hike up river to get some privacy, space and a good swim hole. GODS, I MISS THIS PLACE! But it's in my dreams.
I've heard about some nice springs in TX though
@@JesseStLouis Yeah, there are. They have underground rivers that come up as springs. Check out videos on Jason's well. Also the Devil's river for a really wild trip.
What can you tell me about those swimming goggles - or what appears to be swimming goggles? (4:25 mark on your chest)
They are a polarized version of these: amzn.to/3axjoNm
I'd probably recommend the non polarized ones because sometimes mine are too dark.
do you have the exact location of that lagoon after i wacht your video i want to take my kids please share me the location
I dont have that available right now, sorry
@@JesseStLouis noooooo ok thank you mr
It’s like a mile after that sign you can see it before you get there. It’s a long hike mostly up hill. We saw this video today and went straight there. Definitely worth the hike.
I am going there tomorrow :-) do I go past the nudest beach at hoyts ? Wasn’t sure what trial to take .
Had you hiked another 1/2 mile or so, there's an amazing pool some 400-500 ft long with Waterfalls entering and leaving the pool with lots of ledges and large boulders to jump off. You might consider trying it next time you are up there. Another way to get there and minimize rock hopping, you'll find a road 350-400 ft above the pool. Not sure if it's a private road, but it's not gated. To get there you will have to find an area (or small town) to get access to that road and it is called French Corral. Happy hiking!
Great info, thanks!!
In my day I did lots of cliff jumping and diving in my galavers stravels kaweah river , Santa Inez river rainbow pool, Diana falls Stanislaus river fun fun.summer time July August northern calif
I've been there, ohh Lord you will love that place❤️💕
The water is perfect 🥰
is this in yuba city?
Nevada city
Good stuff, Jessie! Keep posting what you're posting. Is it upstream or downstream?? I went to Hoyts Xing 3 weeks ago, but you did not mention if Lemke's Lagoon was either upstream or downstream from the bridge. We had a great adventure nevertheless and went upstream. We ended up in a very secluded swimming hole and I've not seen this area on any video. Here is the link to our "INFAMOUS" Adventure! //photos.app.goo.gl/M5KvQBNBCfsJuf3K7 Thanks for the tips!
Looks like you had a good time, nice one!
ive been hiking and swimming there for years but never heard the term lemkes lagoon.
Do you know of any swim hole that is not too deep. And away from people. We are willing to hike. Thanks
where?
@@JesseStLouis sorry, Yuba River
I don't know that area too well, sorry
@@JesseStLouis THANKS for this tip. We found a nice private swimming area, not too deep, just after Hoyt's Crossing sign, but Before you arrive at the main swimming area.

Was just in Yuba this past weekend. I really wanted to go to Lemke's and asked the one of the river ambassadors about directions and he was a total asshole to me. He seemed really angry when I asked him about which trail to take after Hoyt's Crossing. Instead of answering my question, he asked me who told me about Lemke's, how far from Yuba I was from, what my plans and intentions were for going as though he was interrogating me. I told him I heard about it and that all I wanted to do was swim. He kept shaking his head at me and told me, "if you go I don't think you're gonna make it out of there." Is it actually dangerous at all getting to Lemke's? Or was the guy just being a gatekeeping asshole? I didn't end up going because of him.
It's an easy 1.5 mile hike with a little scrambling on some granite towards the end. Honestly, you can't go wrong anywhere on that river. Just hike as far as you want and find a secluded spot.
I’ve noticed there’s definitely folks up here who are super hostile to outsiders. Its not going to keep me away though!
Seems easy to find your own secluded spot though
It is dangerous to get to Lemkes!!
We’re just tired of our river spots being polluted and destroyed by out of towners
Dude looks like Captain Jean LUc Picard!
Yep 🤣🤙
One caveat I should mention is that there are many pot growers in the area. So no way to know how they might react to an outsider being there. The paved road that takes you down to the dirt road is called 'Slide Mine Rd'.
You keep promoting these epic holes, they’re gonna loose their privacy. I live down on Stanislaus watershed and thanks to social media my local spots aren’t so private anymore. But hey, maybe I’m just being selfish. My point is if you find a quiet spot, enjoy it, don’t tell everyone else to go, cause it won’t be so quiet your next visit. Happy trails
He might not realize how much all this vlogging and geo-tagging has ruined these spots. This summer at this spot was a zoo
I've been going to the Yuba for 20 years and I've never seen so much trash, graffiti, cars that can't park or even drive. It's a shame.
Now you know how us native Americans feel like everyday!!!!!!! Selfish bastards
Couldn’t agree more, Please stop. Its now cool at all.
A few years ago our creek was crowded with another car so we went to Yuba. We thought we were on a dirt road no one knew about. When we got about a Third mile from bridge it was a madhouse on each side. A traffic jam. No where to turn around. So we went back to our creek and went one other car is just fine
That’s amazing do they allow you for barbecue
No!!! Fires are not allowed. We are in a drought and there are fire warnings everywhere. Please do not try and illegally do a barbecue here!!
def not cheating!
🤣
I absolutely hate seeing the places that I grew up swimming at on CZcams, or any social media actually. People like you bring in droves of tourists that destroy the natural beauty of these places by leaving trash and overcrowding. I hope one day you realize that by exposing local swim holes like this you are destroy childhoods, not just for the place I grew up, but for any other place you go in any state.
🤔
There are no people like me
On further examination, continuing on Slide Mine Rd, there is another dirt road and it goes all the way down to the river. However, that road will leave you a mile or so further down the river. So you will have to hike back up to the pool. I doubt you will encounter any people that far down the river.
Nice to bathe nude in the nature ! I don't understand people who Wear swimsuits.
Why don’t u guys ever add the location and or coordinates cmon if anything don’t post
Why don't you learn how to find stuff for yourself? "Give a man a fish, he eats for a meal. Teach a man how to fish, he eats for a lifetime."
@@JesseStLouis so show me how to get there so I could go for a life time
I think you missed my point bruh
@@JesseStLouis 😂
Whats the point of naming and locating these spots? You could get more viewers if you left a little more to the imagination. Maybe give the general area and less specifics. The fun is in the hunt.
Hi Tim, I did not come up with the name of these spots nor did I give any exact gps locations... I gave pretty general areas and in fact you might find another comment on this video where someone complained that I did not provide ENOUGH information. It's impossible to meet everyone's expectations but I do my best to find a balance between too much and too little info.
So guys, PLEASE Don’t try to do what this guy did, especially not with a family. I’m deeply upset this man didn’t put any information in this video on how dangerous it is to try and hike to this pool- my family kept following the path and it literally starts disappearing and ultimately turns into a crumbly cliff side. They say there is a rope you can use to climb down farther along, but to even get there is a very scary undertaking. If you don’t have climbing experience you could literally fall off the mountain. Shame on you for not explicitly explaining this! You can scramble up the river and you still arrive there, but also not without it’s challenges. Be Warned!
Hi Aeron, so sorry that you had a bad experience. My videos are not meant to be comprehensive guides for these locations. Most of the things I do are not for beginners and especially not for kids. Everyone is responsible for their own safety and should continually reevaluate whether what they are doing is appropriate for their team's skillset and experience. You should have turned back if you weren't comfortable taking your family and probably should have done more research as conditions on trails often change from season to season. Glad you made it out safely and good job getting your kids outdoors! 🤙
He hasn’t actually given any directions how to get there lol I tried to find it for a week! I would never bring a family here hiking 2 miles in 105 degrees ... even hoyts would be a stretch for a family
Agreed. My friends dog slipped off the slippery cliff and broke its leg. I am a local and I barely ever go here because of the dangerous journey. I almost cracked my skull open once. It’s a place to be approached with extreme caution, and never alone. In some places there is only a couple inches of crumbly cliff side to stand on as you climb down.
The locals here would prefer if people stopped trying to find these swimming holes.
So much trash left everywhere in these sacred spots, and people with drones destroy the privacy of locals who like to nude sunbathe. People bring Bluetooth speakers and play loud music that destroys the sounds of nature. It’s pretty lame.
Visitors are cool, but can everyone just like...respect nature and shit?
This comment wins 😂
I grew up here and every summer I spend less and less time at the Yuba because of the out of towners who trash the place and blast their music. Definitely doesn’t help when people like this post videos exposing more hidden spots. I’m sure they’ll regret it when they come next summer and find a bunch of people in their secluded spot.
I almost had to be airlifted out of Lemke's the other day. It is an EXTREMELY dangerous hike! Not for the faint of heart or anyone afraid of heights. NOT safe for dogs or children. Most of the trail is gone from erosion and there are multiple ropes precariously tied to trees to help you scale down the cliffside. I almost fell a couple times, and needed multiple people to help me back up the cliff as I had no upper body strength and learned pretty quickly my bodily limits. PLEASE take this trail with caution. Most articles online say this is a very easy hike; IT IS NOT! I'm a pretty avid hiker and my husband and I hike most weekends, but this trail was a huge test of our limits.
CZcams videos of places like this attract people that lack respect for the river and others like it. If one can't find the motivation to venture into nature without a youtube or insta video guiding them, they probably shouldn't.
