- The silly season is well and truly upon us as the teams head for the historic Italian Grand Prix at Monza - but for once all the talk is of a driver move happening right now, not one being lined up for next year.
Meanwhile, it's coming to the sharp end of the title race and Mansell needs to wrest the initiative back from Senna if he's to stand any chance of that elusive world title...

Nobody knew it yet, but amongst the pointscorers of this race, there had been the winners of 18 drivers world championchips!
I was at this race with an Italian friend. I'd flown out on the Wednesday to fly into Torino (Turin) from the UK. I did not realise it but she wanted to go to Monza as well. We need up camping inside the circuit in the Royal Park.
On the Friday I was able to explain how to identify the drivers by a combination of helmet colours, wing mirror colours and TV camera colour (usually the same as the wing mirrors). Then a strange helmet came past in Benetton and a bit later on by another strange helmet in the Jordan.
Apparently, Briatore also had Alessandro Zanardi already in Benetton overalls in case Piquet didn't fall in line.
Schuey and Zanardi would have been a hell of a team up.
To modern F1 watchers - this would probably be deemed a shitshow - I call it good fun. Not hiding one iota of bastardry. Truly a bygone era.
And thus the phrase "Welcome to the Piranha Club" enters the F1 lexicon...
Great video again thank you! Very interesting history and behind the scenes as well. Very enjoyable content!
Autosport was full of the Schumacher Bennetton deal. if I remember rightly, James Hunt's newspaper column was pretty scathing as well. Edie Jordan's book goes into the Bennetton contract argument in detail - as you'd expect.
I'd love to read James' thoughts on the whole thing
He did a piece for The Telegraph after every race. It was written as he spoke.@@heliumtrophy
Williams' reliability issues cost them the title in 91. On performance alone they would have beaten Senna imo.
So Piquet punched Briatore for his poor treatment of Roberto Moreno........ Ironic then that 20 years later his son Nelson Piquet Junior would metaphorically punch Briatore when he admitted that he crashed deliberately on Briatore's instruction to help Alonso win the the 2010 Singapore Grand Prix. Ok, a bit of a tortured analogy but hey...
Well... He did get Briatore kicked out of F1 so...
Great stuff!
Pole, keep going mate
T&T letting us know how he felt about Who being put on hiatus.
Just as it was getting really good again too
What is it with famous people dying on the week leading up to the Italian Grand Prix

Queen Elizabeth II
There's a lot of famous people, and August is traditionally a slow news month.
