I played the US beta. It was interesting, but not as satisfying as I expected. The grind wasn't bad, but wasn't rewarding for me. The gameplay was kinda clunky and I didn't like the swap mechanic as much as Genshin. Maybe if I could changed the hotkeys around better it would become more ergonomic for me.
I really enjoyed the customizer for your traveler, but got bored with the "weapons" you swap into rather quickly. This mechanic made me have really no attachment to characters that I would spend money on.
For now, I'm going to stick to Genshin and hope fantasy competition gets released. Thanks for the good and mostly objective review.

I definitely agree that Genshin is EXTREMELY polished. That's why a lot of games feel like they fall short in comparison though they're not even bad at the slightest. Genshin is just doing everything perfectly in what's supposed to be a single-player, team adventure based game.
Tower of Fantasy is a really great game and I love how it tries to do a whole lot of things at once (mixing in single-player storytelling, PvP combat, open-world exploration, etc.) but unfortunately, that takes a toll on the game's polishedness. For now, I'll definitely just stick to Genshin and see how ToF's release affects Genshin's development. If the time comes that Genshin seems to be closed to improvements and will not do any more development, then I'm more than open to play ToF.

My hot take before playing the game or watching this video is that the combat looks fun and the world looks interesting to explore, but it lacks something. Cohesiveness, maybe - everything is so out there and weird. Maybe my mind will change when I start the game. And the 'weapons' you get - that have characters attached as skins - seem more detached and lifeless than Genshin or even the extremely poor Noah's Heart that just came out. If the characters are not real people I can interact with in the here and now, what attachment do I have to them other than stats and jiggle physics? To me, story and character are more important than gameplay - my favorite game of all time is Planescape Torment, a game with crappy graphics and gameplay and the best writing of all time. Again, this is based on trailers and accounts from beta players - maybe I will grow to care for these 'weapons.' Anyway, I'm going to spend the time leading up to Genshin 3.0 taking advantage of the F2P gifts and seeing what I think. If I am sold by then, I will have to kick some less daily-task sensitive games to the curb (I am trying to beat God of War and Spiderman before their sequels get released); otherwise, I might log in every few days and mess around for a change of pace. I'm not spending any money on it until I care about one of my Weapons at least as much as I care about my Genshin team.

@@ItsRedSensei Honestly i don't understand people that say Genshin Gacha is horrible. It's not the best sure but it's not that bad
For me to evaluate the "gacha system" is bad or not, we need to see the whole game system itself.
      1. There's a type of gacha game that's rarely give you free pull BUT they have low pity guarantee and you'll 100% get the char you want. Usually the character here is not that much and there's no meta or the meta is moving very slowly.
      2. The second type is the other type of gacha game which will you a lot of pull BUT they will have higher pity to get the character you want. Usually this game is very competitive, the meta is changing very fast, and their summoning poll ended up filled with old and outdated character.
The first one is like Genshin
The second one are like GBF, FEH etc. (there are a lot gacha games used this system esp. JP gacha)
So it depends, do you want to fulfill your gacha addict? Go to the second one. The first one is good for the people that really like a certain character and not really that addicted to gacha. As long the games falls to that 2 category it's okay but if a game takes both ofnthe bad factor in that 2 category then it's bad and vice versa.

I just started playing Tower of Fantasy myself, and so far, I think the story and quest contents a are pretty good. As a Genshin player that is more into gameplay and combat, of course I would focus more on the attack animations. From what I have seen, the attack animations are very unique and the style is quite different to that of Genshin Impact, however, I feel as though they aren’t as good as Genshin’s. I think the reason why is because they are a but chunky. In a comparison video, it shows the difference between Genshin’s and ToF’s attack animations.
In Xiao’s and another character’s, they have similar plunge attacks, however, Xiao’s shows the position change and the plunge seems natural and gives you the feeling of a experienced warrior, which is similar to what Xiao is, a Yaksha that has fought many battles and has gone through so much, becoming the Yaksha we all know and love. For the ToF’s one, the plunge attack isn’t as smooth, the plunge is in an awkward position and doesn’t seem as natural, but a bit forced.
Also, I have noticed many details in Genshin Impact that ToF doesn’t really have, like the ones that are related to the lore. For example, Diluc when he fixes his glove, which implies that he uses his delusion on his left hand, which has probably caused some problems for that hand. Also, for details unrelated to lore, when you use Raiden Shogun in Dragonspine, she doesn’t have icy breath unlike Amber, Yanfei and Kaeya, that is because she is a puppet and not a human, when I found out I was literally in awe at how detailed Hoyoverse is! Not only that, but the scenery and cut scence animations are just so beautiful! This is what ToF lacks, the soul.
However, the game is still in its early stages and is still improving, I can definitely see ToF rising up the ranks! I would definitely recommend the game!
Edit: I edited it because somebody didn't know I was also comparing Genshin Impact and Tower of Fantasy, so I edited my comment accordingly to make sure that nobody else misunderstands!
Edit 2: OK, so I already know that ToF is a MMO game, I have played it myself. But, it wouldn't hurt to improve the plunge animation to make it look more natural. Also, don't say that the game engine can't handle a lot of details and high-polished animations, I was just comparing the differences I have noticed so far.
ToF isn't lacking a lot for a MMO game, connecting with lore is hard and I get it. Genshin has the soul and the connections, accompanied by lots of high quality things, while ToF is a pretty fun MMO game, with customizable characters, so connecting with lore can only be done with NPC, but I'm sure that not a lot of people have finished most of the story, so the lore connection can't really show. Perhaps in the future.

It definitely looks very cheap... the character models are bland, the animations are amateur, and there's so much clipping. I think the color palette might be like that intentionally, though, because so many of these new mobile games seem to be trying for an edgy futuristic look and therefore lazily default to making their environments with the same boring colors. I have a lot of problems with Genshin, but one of the few things I'll commend it for is having a beautiful color palette for its world.

A truly complete, expansive mmorpg with beautiful graphics available entirely for free on a cell phone. I feel like i found out about it late, but not too late to where it's not feasible to play. It's such a unique game to me that seems like its own new archetype. I must say, i have always been impressed by a lot of mobile games from Asian markets, the players over there just seem to have high standards that put pressure on devs to make really impressive titles for mobile games. A lot of these Japanese and Chinese games specifically are perfect for me, because they appeal so well to my maximalist inclinations. even the more "money hungry" ones are just more fun, haha, there's always some massive shower of random rewards to butter you up into buying things and continuing to play.

I was so excited to dig into Tower of Fantasy but I was kinda disappointed tbh... Not because the game is bad or anything but just because it didn't give off the same magic that Genshin did. I believe a huge reason why I didn't enjoy playing it for a bit is because I have already played Genshin (a game in which I've already spent tons of my time and resources into).
Another reason why I still think that ToF won't top Genshin is because of just how perfect Genshin's visuals, animations, and interfaces are. Having already experienced the magic of Genshin, ToF's opening storyline, visuals, combat, etc. became really lackluster for me (though it was nowhere near bad).
Maybe I'm just biased. Maybe it's just because I don't like sci-fi as much as magic and mystery. But if there's one thing I know, Genshin is special. And I don't think the appearance of any games like Nino Kuni, ToF, etc. will take away Genshin's magic.
(I am still low-key hoping Genshin starts to kick it up a notch with the development because with the lack of endgame, the busted gacha and resin system, etc.... there is quite a large chance that Genshin will lose its playerbase to other games).

I got to level 16 before I finished the story quests on the first island, so I didn't even know a lot of this is in the game until I watched this, hehehe. I got the SSR Tsubasa on my 27th wish, though, so that's cool, and it's all been fun so far. There are some things that are more awkward than Genshin, but I kept reminding myself, "it's literally been out for a few hours." My one big complaint is the menu system; it's way too convoluted, and there are a couple screens I can't even figure out how to get back to (e.g. the one where you can look at the gift preferences of the simulacra, which I can't find aside from clicking "use" on a gift, and I no longer have any gifts, so...). I love how Genshin's menus make it real easy to find and keep track of your daily and weekly goals, and check them off once you accomplish them.

Gf and I are loving ToF over Genshin. It may not have the most polished animations or best graphics, but it succeeds where Genshin has let us down to the point of annoyance, frustration, and bitterness that just repells us from the game to play anything else.
ToF, imo, has: Better gacha system, co-op, combat system (as opposed to spamming bursts), mobility (including overworld exploration), personalized character, exploration system, bang for your buck (you get a weapon AND the accompanying character), conveying of information (no paragraph dumps so far), camera system (especially for combat), consistently available skip button (a Godsend for side quests), PvP, and it's looking like the game is going to be several times less stingy with its "primos." Additionally, I got my first SSR on launch, while in Genshin it took me 2-3 weeks of playing every day, and getting a legendary weapon took me over a year because weapon banners are pure garbage.
Other than graphics, animations, VA, and perhaps audio design, Genshin is lacking in every other way for us. This comes from 2 dedicated Genshin players over AR55 and having spent over $200 (Individually). ToF story is looking interesting too. I find gameplay to be 1k times more important than story regardless, so the fact I find myself constantly fighting the autozooming camera in Genshin just so I can see more than 50 fov in a fight or when gliding is one of the biggest pet peeves that have become a real consistent issue I just don't want to deal with anymore :/ I love Genshin, but I may just switch if ToF continues impressing me. Gf feels the same way.
Edit: Got another SSR today. Still haven't used the selector either bc I'm saving it for the the future lol.

      1. the gacha in ToF is for weapons and characters come as a bonus + they're ugly as hell which cancels it out. why make a character customization just to add characters in gacha that have extra skills. pointless. 2. genshin has co-op... its just not an MMO... they never advertised it as one and I don't understand why do you see it as a flaw. a game being single-player doesn't mean it lacks something, it's a whole different genre. 3. better combat system u have to be kidding me rn 4. there's abt no exploration u just go around and pick shit to cook and fight. how is it better in any way. 5. "conveying of information" the storytelling and dialogues are weird and corny, if you're annoyed by long paragraphs in genshin then don't play lore-focused games..? 6. camera system what are you even saying atp 7. "skip button" as a good thing like you didn't say earlier you like the conveying of information better. doesn't that mean u fucking skipped it 😭 again, Genshin is lore-focused... a skip button would defeat the entire purpose. 8. pvp...okay? pvp wouldn't work in Genshin considering the characters' skills and for the millionth time ITS A SINGLE PLAYER 9. "less stingy with its primos" to get some weapons and ugly characters okay 10. congrats on ur SSR characters. how is ur amazing customizable character without any extra skill doing in the basement?
Listen, dude, most things you mentioned are just... personal, not Genshin's fault. HYV have never advertised the game to be anything other than a single-player, open world, focused lore and exploration, if you weren't into that you could have just not played at all instead of complaining about the literal genre of the game. I for one I love single player, open world, lore heavy games, so what you're describing as things Genshin lacks it would've been a nightmare for me if the game had it. You can just not like the game bc it's not your personal style, not your favourite type of gameplay, but it completely succeeds as exactly what the company intended to make, complaining about things the game was never intended to have makes no sense.

Exactly, genshin can learn a couple things from ToF just like ToF learnt from Genshin. Like not using stamina for running, faster way to travel (genshin could have horses, insects etc). More endgame which ToF has and genshin to this date still has only abyss. Real reasons to do multiplayer. Multiplayer dungeons.
Some of this things are things genshin fans have been asking but the devs refuse to add and just keep releasing characters and some pointless events for the casuals while backhand slapping their core fans with no endgame content.
Genshin is great still but the time for them to update the gameplay is coming closer and closer as other companies are showing it can be done, genshin is sleeping on their laurels as of now but their gameplay is already feeling outdated.

People keep trying to mimic Genshin but don't seem to know what made Genshin so popular. There have been gacha games, anime games, elemental combat games, exploration games before it. Genshin is accessible to casual players. Genshin is organic and friendly. It's like Dragon Age but with cute graphics and without a blown-out lore that you can't easily understand if you start playing late into the franchise. It doesn't focus on numbers (Abyss is the only exception) and it doesn't have scary mechanical weapons, contraptions and enemies that remind people of FPS loadouts. Rather, the world reminds people of adventure games they might've played as kids. It's also single-player, which is what a lot of people are missing about gaming these days. Basically, it attracts audiences that other games who have their solid target (dedicated gamers and waifu whales) would otherwise scare away: kids, casuals, women, people with disabilities or those who can't play certain games bc of some sensitivities. They make the playerbase numbers grow from average successful game to the huge phenomenon it is.

This. Genshin, to me, is an amazing story game with an exploration map. But once that's done I've got nothing to do apart from rushing dailies. This one includes PVP (which is supposed to be balanced) and quite a few other things. It obviously depends on how the performance is and how it actually plays etc. But IMO it looks like a game that can definitely co-exist besides Genshin quite comfortably with a lot of things to do on the side. Which is still something I lack in Genshin. Just something to waste my time with, for little rewards, on the side.

Overall ToF is a good game although comparing it to GI is almost apple to orange. One big plus of ToF is able to run 120 fps on pc (guess unreal engine has the adventage for this). music still clearly big win on GI side. Maybe down the road both games can be improved further. I have always felt my immersion break while playing story quests in genshin because of the MC(He is bland, has no skins and is weak af). I am looking forward to see how this simulacra system compares to genshin's character system. Also want to see the combat system.

To be honest, the game is much more similar to Honkai than Genshin!
I still need to play the coop, guild and everything. But what i love about Genshin (lore, story, music, character development, design and art itself) is not on this game. For example, i tried the Merlyn story and i thought her character was so bland :(
However, as a mmorpg, i do think it can be very good. I still need to try it out. But in all honest, this game made me wish to play honkai impact star rail.

For me, it’s literally almost the same as Dragon Raja.
Dragon Raja let’s you customise your main character, just like TOF
It’s a shared world, just like TOF
And also has a similar style in gameplay generally.
As a Honkai player, I believe that the gameplay is way too laggy and clunky to be compared with Honkai’s gameplay.
Honkai uses very fluid animation while TOH in my opinion looks a bit rushed.
ToH although has the same hm.. uh.. futuristic? style as Honkai but it’s story is nowhere in shape or form the same as Honkai’s beautifully written storyline.
Still, the game is really good but it just needs a little bit of improvements. It feels rushed and the story feels bland and generic.
I never really connected with any of the characters there honestly but it just got released so maybe that will develop ig?...
Still, ToH is a decent game so far

@@hm.5003 Yeah, i think it's more similar to Honkai as in the story and not so like the mechanics (it remembered me the herscher and all, the futuristic vibe from that as well)
It's a very fun game to play or to watch during a livestream and stuff, it also does have so many mechanics (like all the pvp, battle royale, the mmorpg part on it and all), that's also why i think it's a good game to play on stream. So those are just my opinions:
First off Genshin is way more polished than ToF.
Story wise its actually mixed for me. The story we play in Genshin isn't actually that good imo but the background storys of it are so interesting. With that i mean stuff we have to actually figure out ourself instead of just getting it thrown at us.
And in ToF its the otherway arround. I Like the story we play in ToF more but the background isnt really something to talk about for me.
Gameplay wise Genshin got very boring to me just because it got very easy. Abbys is more of an annoyance than anything else and thats pretty much the current Endgame. When it could be channel wise like in ToF where you can run arround with more than 3 other people it would make it atleast more fun to do stuff. Yeah it makes it even easier but at this point thats neglatable imo.
ToF there are atleast world bosses i currently can't just solo wich already means ive to play with people in the open world wich i really enjoy. The Joint Operation runs are also way better than the simple dungoens in Genshin and more fun to do.
TLDR: Both games have different strengths and weaknesses. Genshin is overall easier to play since you can solo everything while ToF atleast wants you to do Worldbosses together.

I feel like the reason I'm enjoying the game is because it has a lot of things that Genshin feels like its missing (e.g interacting with players beyond a few occasional domain runs and events). However the aspects of it that seem inspired by genshin are very lackluster, as well as the art style and story being much more generic. Luckily this means that genshin will remain relevant to me, because both of them scratch different itches.
GI has its unique art style and almost puzzle game-like reaction system thats addictive as all hell that allows you to plan out specific combos to delete enemies instantly.
TOF has a much more hack n slash type of combat system that allows me to zone out and enjoy watching my character's movements while fighting. Instead of planning combos that delete bosses instantly, it's more about planning loadouts and team strategizing in order to not get deleted yourself.

The gameplay is enjoyable, I love how detailed the cut scenes are, and love how we can customize our main character, and not to mention the face that our MC speaks without having a little friend to do the talking for u. But for some reason the story is rather more confusing and the skins attached to the weapons have no relevance to the story. It makes me want to use the main character more as the skins attached to the weapons seem to have no personality or relevancy to the plot. In Genshin , the characters we played have some sort of relevancy in the traveler’s journey. They are always open to the idea of joining the traveler’s party for an adventure. Plus the story in ToF is rather confusing despite me paying attention to the story. Maybe the story wouldn’t be so confusing if they wouldn’t overload information to a new player that just got started. That’s just food for thought

First the hero skins felt weird to me as well but as I understood they are actual people in the ToF world and our character "summons" their memories and skills to aid them in battle... or something like that. Also I really liked the story quests of the hero characters.

I appreciate the polish of Genshin but I simply can't go back to the slugish movements of Genshin. Besides, ToF new updates are starting to show that "polish" that people critisized. All it had to do was have a party that follows you in the open world and helps you in fights and I would have been sold. Whoever is going to take the crown from Genshin has to have a FF7 Remake style to their game or I'm not interested. Feels quiet and lonesome being the sole character in all these open world games.
