Good on ya for making a concise and understandable tutorial for people that want to try level creation in Halo 3/ODST. Not enough exist that are as accessible for those new to game dev tools. As for rebalancing the sandbox, it ain’t as simple as saying “you can’t do better than Bungie”. Sure, trying to improve on Halo 3’s design is a fool's errand; it’s built how it is for a reason, but fucking around with damage values, projectiles and et cetera help familiarise new modders with Sapien/Bonobo. Plus, if you intend to make an experience that plays more akin to other styles of FPS like a modern Doom game or et cetera that differs from Halo’s design, you’ll want to change the balancing to suit the experience you’re crafting. So long as your changes serve a purpose in the over-all design of your mod that isn’t just “I think this would be cool” and are made with a lot of care and critical thought, you shouldn't make any major mistakes and even if you do, it’s a fantastic learning experience to get you thinking more critically about game design as a whole.
Also, if you’re interested, I have a script for implementing double jumping that I could share. Given you’re interested in making Doom-influenced maps, you might find it useful if you're interested in adapting the modern games.

I kinda like this more than any other Halo modding, or Blender tutorial. It just gets to the point. If I miss something, or think it's too fast, I can just go back, or pause. I also don't have to seek through a 2 hour video, or worse sift through a playlist of 20 minute videos just to find the relevant info I'm looking for. You may have accidentally revolutionized tutorial videos on CZcams.
This is by and large the most inspiring Halo modding philosophy content on CZcams. Really, really fantastic, well thought out stuff.
I am only ever left with more “why?” and “how?” questions with these proprietary tools and their accompanying tutorials and I am slowly realizing that most of the time the answers are, at a certain point just “because” and “figure it out.”
I am excited to try your mod and have been thinking about something like this for a very long time, both in this form and the reverse inside the DOOM engine. To see it done so methodically for the first time is a pleasure. Now I wonder about custom models and animations for a full conversion take. I couldn’t imagine the work that world take but a man can dream.

@@defaultgraycat I definitely do disagree with him on the notion that the base weapon / enemy / vehicle sandbox should never be rebalanced ever. The very notion that the sandbox is completely flawless is absolutely brain-dead of a take.
However I will say that the campaign rebalance mods are getting old and saturated.

That's neat, I guess, but I was hoping this would be Halo in the Doom engine. People have done single maps here and there, and reinterpretations that look very wrong, but never a full conversion. Someone who appreciates Doom and Halo both, the way you do, could do it proper justice. Imagine seeing low-res versions of Elites and Grunts as flat cardboard people, it would be so awesome.
There is Halo Doom Evolved, but it currently does not have its own enemies (it is planned). There are packs to fill that gap in, though they are not the best.

Good work man! Id love to see you do something in UE5 (or Unity/Godot) maybe, it doesnt use the same tools, youd have to build the map in engine with modular assets instead of all in 1 file but its 1 step away from your own game. Plus in UE5 due to Blueprints, you dont even really needa learn programming (it helps but can worry about that later), creating a prototype would be easy enough! Hell, you already know Blender! It would be nice to see what youd make!
I do program. I've been doing stuff in Unreal engine and understand the tools. The major roadblock is that making something worthy of showing off takes time and I'm fairly busy with stuff. Perhaps I will have something cool to show off some day.
@ShreddedNerd it doesn't have to be a full steam release! Could be a single level prototype for a gamejam or somethin.

In response to your great Halo Killer video, I highly reccomend ADACA as an amazing Halo-like game. Admittedly, its more Half Life than Halo, but I think it perfectly nails Halo's weapon sandbox in a way most games today can never achieve.
You just made me buy Halo for Steam. This looks superfun. And for people wondering, start with this or valve hammer +.
It is not recommended starting to build maps in an game engine like Unity or Unreal.

Nobody would probably read this but still, I want to get this out of my chest.
Man I found out about this channel through the "Soy boy lore" meme videos and I thought "meh, another far right edge lord memer" (Mind you I didnt watched those videos for that reason).
But then I found your "Millenial writing" video and it was really good, a video that says what many of us have been feeling and thinking about modern pop culture media without resorting to "Ahhh there are minorities in my game!", but rather a reasonable video on why most of modern pop culture media sucks and why nerd mainstream nerd culture is so damn lame (mainstream nerd media sucks bc writters are a bunch of rich manchildren who get all their references through social media, their humour from tumblr, have a bare surface level understanding of complex themes and they dont read books at all). I would add capitalism to the equation though, companies whant to make fast money, they see their media as products and nothing more, so they'll sanitize a lot of thing just to make it more palatable to a wide audience and sell more, then they'll move to the next thing to create more products. Nerds back in the ol'days get together bc they shared a common interest, sometimes it was a very specific niche, they cater to a specific audience, their love for the subject pushed them to make it good which would attract more people and eventually create a community.
