Pistol-whipping someone is really only effective when you hit 'em over the head. It can knock people out and kill them just the same due to brain trauma. If I'm not mistaken, Jesse James killed a bank clerk by conking him over the noggin with a pistol during one of his robberies. Skull fracture and hemorrhaging. You can accomplish this with your bare hands, now imagine how much easier that is when you swing a one-and-a-half to three-pound chunk of steel or polymer. White Gloves like their meat fresh, so killing Carlyle is the last thing they want until he's been completely harvested. The Courier's pistol whip was just too hard for him to handle.

No. We have more gun related "freedoms" than most other countries, but not everyone is into firearms here. Having said that most people who live out in rural Americas have some experience with firearms, but well, there's still the big cities and liberal utopias where you have most of your gun crime and ignorance. Not saying rural Americas are a beacon of safety and understanding, but most people at least have the sense of "dont point it at something you dont want harmed, keep your finger out of the trigger guard unless youre shooting something, and dont keep it loaded unless you expect trouble". When most people outside the U.S. want to tout how we have such bad gun related crime rates, they dont take things like suicides or negligence out of the equation which often tips the scales. Add into that the fact that the Americas are such a large land mass compared to everywhere else and the numbers seems even more inflated. Hell, in the U.S. a decent portion of our STATES are bigger than some European countries or at least comparable. Many of them dont seem to really grasp the scale involved here. Edit: Typo.
