Hi Ruby I worked in the MINT from 1964-1966. We use to go to the top of the new hotel and watch the A bomb test. We could not gamble in the Mint so we went next door to the Horeshoe. We stayed in the Horsehoe hotel all 8 rooms in the original just above the casino on our honeymoon in 1969. Really enjoy your videos.

Thanks for sharing. You aren’t much older than my dad and it amazes me how different the world you grew up in was. Men and women dressed up wearing hats, pensions, home owners, happy just having a job. The rich actually paid taxes, humble parents, land ownership and people lived off it. Now my generations goal is to travel and enjoy the world while we are alive. My best friend just died. Nothing matters more knowing you aren’t promised tomorrow. Traveling is my passion. My friend didn’t get that luxury. Id rather die happy then miserable with money I didn’t get to spend… You are the last of the great generations that no one will ever see again. I’m happy you grew up when technology didn’t matter and people did. My dad doesn’t even like using a phone. I never understood that. He retired and never called in ever. Never late. Sacrificed for his kids. I only wish he understood that we grew up in a different world then he enjoyed. We have things harder. Gone are the times where only men needed to work. Less jobs and benefits. Less buying power. I am lucky to have my dad. I will always have a home to go to when he’s gone. I’m lucky to have two awesome parents who loved me. Not everyone gets that luxury. .

The worst thing about the rooms is that the insulation in the floors is so minor that you can hear the casino and even hear conversations people are having downstairs. Still way better than the original rooms at Golden Gate though. The diner hidden in the back by security is a hidden gem. The hot sandwiches are a great deal.

I used to love to go to the restaurant downstairs for a .99 cent breakfast of eggs, hash browns, toast and a HUGE slab of ham. Binion's is the place where I hit my first $1 denom Royal Flush for $4000. Good memories. Wouldn't stay in the room though.

I stayed in a really cheap room at Binion's about 15 years ago. It was about half the size as the room Ruby was in. I had to use a stairwell to get to it, it was just before the restrooms if I remember correctly. It was clean and cheap which is all I cared about.

No closet with hangars in a hotel room is kind of bizarre. I agree with Ruby's suggestions about the casino too as far as pushing the classic old school vibe and history.
I honestly didn't know Binions hotel had re-opened I thought it was just a Casino now. I also assume since she didn't mention it that they don't give you access to use another hotels pool since they don't have one.
$250 is way overpriced for that room even on a prime weekend. I know it's in a good location for downtown but the place basically has no amenities.

Chase is on the $10,000. Mainly they were used for inter-Fed transfers and eventually the Fed took back the bills. And yes, so much fun to go to Whiskey Liquor Up sit at the rail and people watch.

I was unimpressed when my wife and I toured one of the Hotel Apache rooms. I remember telling my wife that a room at the Apache (at that time it was $90 a night) made a room at Motel 6 look like a suite. Binions as a Vegas resort horribly underachieves. Which is sad since the resort has lots of potential to be swanky. Benny Binion was one crazy cowboy, but his resort kind of stinks now. If they can safely demolish Las Vegas Club to build Circa, then they can demolish the Binions tower to build something much better.

  • @dougstimesharetravels9378

We once had a free room at the old Lady Luck given to us as a “prize” for attending a timeshare presentation. Similar room but everything was bolted down, including the TV remote, which was screwed in place on the night stand. We checked back out and stayed at the Flamingo instead.

I enjoyed my time once my room was available. I had been told "early check in" was available but it wasn't. They suggested I leave my bags at Bell however that is at the far side of the 4 Queens and for me impossible to navigate. I am disabled and sat at the sports book for 2 hours waiting for a room. I do believe I had a ghost experience in the early AM hours.

I remember back when they announced they were going to re-open the Hotel Apache part of the hotel and announced that it was going to be for those who wanted an old school downtown hotel experience (i.e. divey motel in the 70’s) I knew they would end up looking exactly the way they did. It’s too bad that Binion’s doesn’t have a hotel tower that could be renovated into an old-school Vegas luxury hotel using an amazing throwback Vegas brand like “The Mint” that would add a cool and interesting vibe to an ailing property downtown. Oh wait…

    • @felixsoheili1154

Apparently they wanted to use the Mint Tower. Problem is there was alot of asbestos and the building was not even eligible to be gutted because of the crumbling structure since it closed in 2008. For the longest time homeless were breaking in and stealing shit out of the walls and rooms. As much as it would be cool to have the tower back they would have to take the entire thing down and rebuild.
Though 4 Queens is finally renovating the North Tower in 2024 so hopefully that will be nice.

The changes make me nostalgic. I used to stay, gamble, and eat at Binion’s regularly. They treated gamblers well. The rooms were nice and they did have closets. There was a really tasty late night steak for a few $, and the food from the deli counter was just as good as the delis in LA. Don’t even get me started on missing the delicious cinnamon babka. Binion’s is still one of my favorite spots to play slots on Fremont, but it does feel run down now.

NO, yea NO Ruby.. I'm in love with you! ... ha, and Mr. Ruby, but come on Ruby, $250, ah heallll NO. GREAT VID, but $70 a pop at Binion's Steakhouse, too much all the way around. I like Binions, but to stay there and pay what you did, not a chance. There are far too many better deal to be found downtown and even on the strip. You could have beat that room price - on the weekend - mid strip

The major thing I’ve noticed looking for places to stay in downtown and being there a few times: almost every casino needs to redo their rooms, or just tear them down and build new ones. I couldn’t fathom paying $200+ for that room!

Stayed at Binion's early 2000s before the remodel. They did have two elevators, and they walled off the elevator that went straight to the gaming tables, not sure why. It was one of the best amenities they had..ha

At least the pool was always opened there. Flying in this coming Sunday & It will be the first time staying at Mandalay Bay. Probably will be in their lazy river with a margarita most of the day!

Excellent video Mrs Ruby thank you so much. There was an excellent computer game in the late '80s/ early 90s called Binions World Series of Poker. It was an awesome game. You checked into Binons and you could play slots all the table games Keno etc, but the main event was World Series of Poker. Keep having fun Mrs Ruby, always enjoyabe. Oh I didn't know binion's had a pool I'm going to look online and see what it looks like.
