- Hi y’all in this video we do some family overland camping. Finally took out the overland trailer and the new RTT tent for the first time, As a “Shakedown” run to see what the trailer and the tent is capable of. This was a good time to see if we need to make any improvements before we take them on those long distance trips.
All along the main plan was to head up to a horse camp set up camp and hike a trail. That plan was quickly changed as we found ourselves turning around and finding a Plan B camp spot.
The next day we get back on the trail and try again taking an alternative route around, finding ourselves moving downed trees along the trail and eventually getting stuck in the snow with the trailer.
As a family we had a lot of fun from bushcrafting, jeep recoveries and everything els in between. It was also a good time to get using some of the new tools and gear that we had been waiting to use for some time now.
We hope you can enjoy this video as much as if you were there. Hit that like button and will see you guys on the next video have a good day cheers!

In the PNW, we call downed trees across the trails firewood! Lol
Always carry a chain saw, it will save your life one day. 🤙🤙🤙
Forestry will probably get to it before I do , but yes I should have brought one. The cool thing was we were able to navigate through a lot of it that was within our reach. But just goes to show how sometimes your not always prepared as much as you think you are. I always carry a full size shovel and axe, but this time a chainsaw would have been valuable. Thanks for watching 🍻
@@ATEMOFFROAD I should clarify for those that dont know also. The "save your life" that I mentioned a chain saw is capable of...is not just for wood/warmth, but more importantly, wild fires can instantly be upon you and if you can only get out one way...there can be no such thing as an impediment at that point
@@GratefulOverlander you make a really good point , and a lot of people tend to forget about that. This discussion was actually brought up not to long ago amongst the small group of jeepers I’m with. There’s a really fun but very popular trail here locally and it was brought up that it’s a one way in and a one way out trail. Lots of camping along the trail, but sometimes I get creeped out about that and if a situation like that were on my hands. There is large creek that runs along the trail , I figured if I loose control on that trail My family and I would most likely head in that direction and down stream. But that is not always the case. Good discussion 👍🏼 I appreciate it thanks for sharing.
See tracks are always amazing to have along
Love horse camps nice set up you and your family have.. God Bless and keep you safe always carry chain saw, tiny y-turns .
If I go back up soon I’m going to bring my chain saw, I’m hoping to take a couple more jeepers with me too and help clear out. And thank you, it’s been quite a collection of stuff so far but I know the kids will have good use out of it as they grow up. They were all excited to set up the tent on top of the jeep! Thanks for watching god bless you too
Great job , you’re parenting correctly. Really enjoyed your video can’t wait to it myself, safe travels!
Thanks for watching I appreciate it 🍻
Good video! thanks.
Good practice for the kids
Try lowering your tire pressure in the snow? The tires footprint will become much larger, helping the tire “float” on top of the snow. Also helps with cleaning tread. Sweet fire pit!
That is one thing i didn’t do, and I should have done that when I aired down the trailer tires. she probably would have had a better foot print and been able to plow through the snow, but she just didn’t have the clearance as the snow was packed dense all the way up to the frame touching the tub of the jeep! Oh I love the fire pit buddy ❤️ you did a great job on this one !
This is the key. Drop to 50% tire pressure and you’ll float and not dig through the snow
Plus one on the video. Enjoy your Cali adventures.
Thank you 🍻
Great video!
Thanks for watching I appreciate it 🍻
Yeap yesterday my grandson was fell asleep camping with pole in water Dad yelled fish on and he reeled it to shore still asleep woke when it hit him in the face. his dad has it on Video. He was up the night before talking to friends. so he made him a fox hole and threw his sleeping bag into to keep warm. It was a great day.
🤣 that’s a funny one . I gotta see that 👍🏼 those are the best memories
Love the drone footage 💪
Thanks for watching buddy 🍻
Nice trip ! I just bought my first jeep , it’s a 2002 white sahara , I hope I can one day make a trip with my family
Have to get out there , with the family it’s so worth it. Thanks for watching 🍻
looks like you should carry a small Toro snow blower for trail clearing
I have one , definitely going to bring it next time , should work well for the dust too
Mora knife is all you need for bushcraft. Give up the Rambo’s is my advice.
I just checked those out they are nice, to bad I just bought a knife , but I put one in my Amazon cart just because I don’t want to forget to try it out. Thanks for sharing 🍻
Can you give us a review on the IO RTT? i haven't seen many online, mostly just unboxing but no really review on rainy days, windy days, etc. I actually saw your unboxing video but it didn't review after real world use. Would appreciate it. Great video btw!
Yeah sure I’ll be doing a review soon, check I have 3 camping video in rain and snow using this tent check them out on my video list 🍻
@@ATEMOFFROAD I've been seeing your other videos, even the budget trailer ones! Great channel! I'm wondering tho, about the RTT, is it possible to leave bedding and pillow in there when closed?
@@ATEMOFFROAD
Your trailer is a concept I’m working on too. Would love more info on what you’ve got going on.
Maybe bring a chainsaw for those trees in the road? What do you think? Nice video!
Yeah next time we are cutting them down. 🍻
Change the trailer axle out for a torsion type with a lower load rating and ditch the leaf springs. The trailer will float like a cloud.
That’s Avila! I live in this area! We should get together and camp Big Sur.
Yes it is , we travel through there on our way to Pismo. And that would be awesome to meet up and camp , we have just explored that area a few times so knowing someone that knows the area would be great! Thanks for watching 🍻
Awesome set up mate , you should take a chainsaw to clear the downed trees, and I didn't see a spare wheel did you take one? Great videos I'm following and enjoying very much way down here in New Zealand
How does the trailer pull on the street and trail?
Looks great but the way!
Pull fine , we barley noticed it was there! Thanks for watching 🍻
I'm sure this has been said over and over, but your fancy trailer needs a chainsaw with a mount. There are lot's of great options for ways to secure them!
I have chainsaw just haven’t mounted it haha, your almost there in the video series, where we go camping, you will see my family and I cut up and completely load the trailer with wood. 🍻
@@ATEMOFFROAD Awesome! I bought a refurb 14" Husqvarna that's been my favorite over my big one for years!
Nice Trailer. I want to build mine or just buy one.
Thanks for all the videos. Very informative.
How much have you spent so far? I would like to compare prices of buying one or building it. Thanks.
It’s been a really fun project, I’d say about 2700 and that’s everything including the tent and hitch. Thanks for watching 🍻
@@ATEMOFFROAD.
Thanks. That’s not bad. I’m going to start mine.
What a cool camp spot. Looks like you need to start carrying a chainsaw.
The only tool I didn’t think I needed 😂 Have to come up with us next time buddy, help clear some trees! I’ll bring my chainsaw
@@ATEMOFFROAD I’m down to help clear the path
@@the_bencredible forestry may have already cleared it but I’m down to go back up! I’ll reach out to you on Instagram
You need to air down when you go in snow.
That was some sketch recovery. Not the safest I've ever seen, but u got er done ! Add some weight to that line next time. Might save someone alot of hurt ...
Good idea, there was no way I could have got her out moving forward she was in deep with a trailer and no solid objects close enough in front of her to tie to and I wasn’t going to risk getting the tj stuck, the tj winch line was about 25ft just too short from the tree to the snatch block. So running the jk line under did the trick until I could get her closer to that tree and block, then the tjs line could reach! But yeah never done that before. 🤣Thanks for watching 🍻
@@ATEMOFFROAD Been there ... Its hard to understand the gravity of a situation unless your actually there. Lots of factors you cant actually get on camera or that folks dont see. I do love the trailer though 😀 Got mine last week. Cant wait to build it out over the summer. Happy Wheeling ...
Anymore details on the trailer?
Plans are to build a tailgate for it sometime, hopefully get it out for some more camping this summer. 🍻🍻
New sub here. Sweet video. Awesome getting out there and getting after it. Time to add a chainsaw to the armamentarium if you haven’t already 🤙🏻
Chainsaw is In trailer, new video on load out coming soon. Thanks for watching us appreciate it 🍻
How was the insulation on the clam shell?
It holds in heat pretty good , I had the heater down low and we were warm. Thanks for watching 🍻
need some tracks I need them sometimes in soft snow,
We also Y hose for two tents but I don't care for the smell that ligers outside the exhaust. Still haven't used it on the trail. But will be. Got it mainly for Alaska and mom in-law
They are worth it , the problem was the jk was dug in pretty deep and the snow was hard packed and really dense so having the winch was more effective.
@@jeannedosterwise8460 I was actually thinking about extending the exhaust pipe out with a clamp on extension.
@@ATEMOFFROAD I know how it feels. One year We planned to hit the hot springs long way home ... 200 mile loop anyway this and that happen and for some reason the Alway have gear was taken from the Jeep after it was decided to take the freeway home due to bad weather front coming in ... I seen my Quilt out and I thew it back in always keep it in. Later that day Hubby decided to go the back way to the hot springs we sunk into a snow hole something like a tree well. we were in 18 degree weather for 18 hours. we made ready for a long cold night. down for the night and the next day Hubby dug us out with a coffee can I was behind the wheel and he bounced us out . Tracks came I got and This Jeep I drive now is ready for it ... I hope. We also turned around . we were not far but gas was now an issue.
@@ATEMOFFROAD My thought was about the wind. But we plan on keeping it on at a temp so it's not always on. and we have several places we can move it to be Able to go into the room and we call rooftop the Pent house I do hope to filming our Adventures this year. I Love doing still shots .

How does the 4cyl do on towing?
It’s actually not that bad , if need be I will use it to tow , it’s just really slow up hills , around town its good. I use our jk for long distance tows thanks for watching 🍻
@@ATEMOFFROAD thank you I'm considering purchasing my first jeep in the 2.4 liter engine and using a trailer setup like yours
where was the trailer
On the Jeep
Did you build this trailer or buy it?
I built this trailer, check out some of my earlier videos . Thanks for watching 🍻
Does it upset you that for 400$ shipped you can order that inspired overland tent from there manufacturer in china with upgraded zippers, fabric and accessories?
Not at the moment, Any links to support this? seems SuS. 🍻
Where were these trails?
Hull creek up hwy 108
Chainsaw maybe?
Oh yeah definitely needed the next trip, I already have one in my trailer ! You’ll see it then. Thanks for watching 🍻
