  • YidSistas are back for another one: A classic and timeless! And so much FUN!
Written by Jacob Jacobs (lyricist) and Sholom Secunda (composer) for a 1932 Yiddish language comedy musical, which closed after one season. Five years after its 1932 composition, the song became a worldwide hit when recorded under a Germanized title as "Bei mir bist du schön" by The Andrews Sisters. Another hit version was recorded by the Barry Sisters.
In 1938, the song was a smash hit in Nazi Germany, until they discovered that the lyrics were Yiddish and not a South German dialect as they had thought! Ooops!
Any other Yiddish songs the YidSistas should tackle?
Please put them in the comments!

Some day, I'll hear the original version with its "interesting" introduction to get the delicious irony of "to ME you're beautiful"
Even if you had a Tatar complexion,
even if you had tomcat eyes,
and even if you had a little limp,
    or had wooden legs,
I would say, “It doesn’t bother me.”
Even if you had a foolish smile,
    or were an utter simpleton,
even if you were as unrefined as a wild Indian,
even if you were as common as a coarse Galician Jew,
I’d say, “It doesn’t bother me.”
“Tell me, how do you explain it?”
    Okay, I’ll tell you why:
    Because to me you’re beautiful,
    to me you have grace,
to me you’re one of a kind.
    To me you’re great,
    to me you have “it,”
to me you’re more precious than riches.
Many beautiful girls have wanted me,
and from all of them I chose only you.
    Because to me you’re beautiful,
    to me you have grace,
to me you’re one of a kind.

The Barry Sisters reincarnated. What a great idea to include the cheerful Chrirbim-Chiribom. Great rendering of a klezmer classic. Greetings from Bulgaria!

Sorry for nit-picking, the Barry Sisters and the Andrews Sisters are not the same, but yeah, the Barry Sisters did perform this song as well as others.
I know it has been chewed a lot, please do a new version of Rozhinkes Mit Mandlen

Yehuda! You are definitely right, not sure how I ended up writing that because I know the difference too. Thanks for the fix!
      Chewing on Rozhinkes...nice pun!
We've been thinking about that tune, might get to it!
Hope you enjoy the channel, more to come!

В этих идиш песнях столько жизнелюбия и сексуальности.
Мне кажется, перейдя на иврит, евреи утратили огромный Пласт культуры
