Bruce, you are a legend!
I've watched surfing footage for nearly 50-years now, and the ride at 2:44 of this video is perhaps the greatest single ride I've ever seen in my entire life, from Pipeline to Tahiti. The sheer size of the wave, the perfection and length of the rideable tube, the freaking balls out amazing takeoff... if this fantastic surfer hadn't hit that last area of turbulence at the very end of the tube, NOT ONLY would this have been the Wave of the Year, but the wave of the CENTURY.
Yeah, that drop was sick - I was bummed that he didn't make it out.. but still very sick ride.
Absolutely - it was almost perfect and the guy is seriously brave.

Bruce Irons nearly lost his life on that 15'er on nates board. 2 wave holddown nearly 3 that would've killed him. It looks beautiful but it's so heavy and thick. Cloudbreak I surfed it in 1994, it's very hard to read the closeouts look like good ones so it's so hard to choose the right wave

Would you agree when you drop into waves like this, they become easier to ride? It is like a personal experience between you and the wave. I've only experienced it once in my life and it felt as if I were experiencing the apitimy of what riding waves is all about.

Surfed cloudbreak twice. Absolutely gangbusters! Stayed at seashell cove. Took the boat out. One of the most epic waves I’ve ever surfed, on par with Hickory bay in NZ. First time I surfed cloudbreak was on a foreign board, my board ended up in Hawaii due to a an airline mix up.
One of these waves ripped a watch right off my arm. And the sea mites nip at you! And the sunburn!
