What a Legend you are. Every one who owns a vehicle. Should know, from an early age. How to do some basic maintenance which in my opinion is a must. For them to know and to do it. Admittedly your son is going (hopefully) to go above and beyond that level. 👍👍

I've done the same for my daughter, a cat n 2015 fiesta. Rebuilt the front end and Started changing the wet belt today, hope to have it done by tomorrow. Not an easy job for the drive way though!

Great stuff. An excellent way to get your lad motoring and learning some skills whilst at the same time keeping the first car expenditure down.
That’s the plan hopefully so many youngsters haven’t got a clue, including my own son lol so hopefully he can manage some basic mechanical maintenance, that will hopefully save him some money later on

Not sure if you already know this you probably do but I been told in the past that engine oil in a diesel will always be black quick way to check if it's clean is dab a bit of the oil off you dipstick onto your fingers and if it goes between the little ridges it's not too dirty
Checking the cleanliness of the engine oil is definitely important for diesel engines. I appreciate you sharing this handy method, it's always great to learn new tricks for maintenance.
