@@diplorive_3450 breaking bad is pretty far and above sopranos. For me it was a little underwhelming the first time i watched it as I was expecting something on par with BB but instead by learning from the sopranos mistakes Vince Gilligan created something much better
i think people don't realize/appreciate how much the tyrells brought to the quality of the show.
Definitely gave more for the main characters to work with such as rivals for the lannisters and friends for Sansa
They were amazing. Only fought with wits and words, never needed swords.

Catelyn's extreme reaction to the death of her son is exactly what was missing when in s7 & 8 when Dany loses one of her dragons. They where her children.. D&D let so many opportunities for epic scenes slip through their fingers. Also her seeing Viserion the first after he died, now ridden by the nightking, should have been a heart breaking moment for her. I expected somtjing like: her desperately trying to connect or just torn between attacking the shell that was one of her children and comnecting with it.. just so dissaponting how tbey managed to f*ck up so many great characters and storylines in just two seasons.
This was Jon at his best. He was cunning, smart and funny at times. It was easy to see he had the potential to be a hero. Then after he was betrayed by the Night watch he took the Dum Dum pills and lost his vocabulary

Best season in my opinion. I love how this season doesn’t have much of a central storyline; it’s just filled with so amazing twists and dialogue and it’s just so rewatchable
By far the most rewatchable. Especially from episodes 3-6. The best stretch of the show in terms of acting, dialogue, story and pacing.
@@nostalgicbliss5547, episodes 4-6 are all top 10 episode material for me. I think S1 is strongest when it comes to pacing but the character interactions in those episodes really make S3 stand out and of course there’s the red wedding
I've rewatched GOT recently and loved the early seasons again. It still sad how in the last couple seasons I could see and feel the decline happening all over again. Hopefully the Targaryen prequel does not dissapoint

I'm worried the dialog won't live up to s 1-4 and honestly I don't like any of the casting. Which is amazing because GOT was the most perfectly cast tv show in history.
@@English_MoFo I was thinking the same thing! What made the beginning of GOT (and even some of the horribly, horribly written end) great, was the casting and the dialogue. I’m trying to be optimistic but I’m sort of ready to be let down 😣

Don't have a single shitty hope about the Jon snow sequel. His Watch has ended and he knows nothing.
I didn’t care as much before but I definitely agree with others that they should’ve adapted the reason Robb married Jane Westerling from the book. Looking back on it now, I just can’t see the son of Ned Stark being raised how he was, being dishonourable and breaking his promise just because he met a pretty foreign girl that was empathetic to enemy soldiers.
But in the books Robb does marry Jeyne Westerling whose house is sworn to the Lannisters.

earlier seasons of game of thrones are so excellent... it feels like a different show. So many interesting characters, plots, twists, great actors, huge consequences to acts etc...
Everything was slower (more talking and less action)
It was crazy to me how I could rewatched the earlier season many times. Because I enjoyed so much the dialogues.
For me Ygritte and Jon's relationship is the best romance I've seen on screen. Chemistry is unbelievable, dialogue is really insightful, in every scene there is lot of tension and you simply know their happiness cannot last long. But everytime they laugh or kiss it's so pure and beautiful.
The fact they had a real life relationship brewing probably added to it too

I remember when I first watched the show I had heard the term "Red Wedding" in reference to it, but never really thought about it again until that episode and the musicians started playing the Rains of Castamere and I was just like "...oh no." My fiancé and I are trying to work the song into our own wedding haha

Season 1 - Great
Season 2 - Great
Season 3 - Amazing
Season 4 - Best
Season 5 - Mediocre
Season 6 - Mixed
Season 7 - Bad
Season 8 - No word can describe this thing
I argue that the first few episodes of season 5 are up there with some of the best but once Jon becomes Lord Commander and Daenerys decides to rule in Mereen the show takes a plummet to bad. The scary thing to me is that the episodes “Winds of Winter”, “Battle of the Bastards”, and “Hardhome” are seen as the best episodes in the series which is mind-boggling
@@drewengel7073 I find 5x8 and 6x10 to be quite good, although I agree 6x9 is not at all what it's hyped up to be.
@@drewengel7073 The fact is that those episodes were really enjoyable to watch in themselves but were damaging for the coherence of the story as a whole. That's also during those moments that the plot armour started to become very visible

I loved that you highlighted Daenery's and Jon's storylines. I think S3 was the only season who captured fully the magic of their book counterparts... Jon's inner conlfict about his Targaryen crisis and his love for Daenerys vs raised with the stark values and as sheild against anything that thretens the realm, whether being the White Walkers or Daenerys should be the highest pic of drama for him...
Yeah instead we get npc jon snow who doesnt care about dany, his parantage or his dragon and can only say 4 words
Season 3 is my second favorite season behind season 4. I loved the characters, acting, twists, and dialogue. Jaime's story this season with Brienne was definitely the highlight for me. Although, I think Theon's torture was a bit dragged out. It solidified Ramsay as a horrifying villain, but it was hard to watch
Thank you so much for taking some time to showcase Cersi as a character. I've had so many arguments with people who can't see beyond the fact that she's an unlikeable person and just say they want her gone. To me she's integral to the Lannister/Kings Landing stories and actually has some sympathetic motivations. Her scenes with Tyrion are my favourites, and Lena is such a fantastic actress. Granted her character is butchered in the last couple of seasons, but that's true of almost every character.
Lena is one of the best performers of the show
I remember back in college when HBO announced that they were going to make a show from Martin’s ASOIAF. I quickly jumped at the chance to consume the books and by the end of Thrones, I was absolutely devastated. How could this asshole have Eddard Stark, a POV character, fucking executed for treason? I was hooked immediately. Martin is a brilliant writer and the first 4 seasons demonstrates that handedly

"And Now His Watch is Ended" is such an underrated episode. I'd say it easily sits next to "Rains of Castermere" and "Kissed by Fire" in any series or S3 ranking.
Apparently its an unpopular opinion, but i think "Mhysa" is phenomenal too.

Blackwater is the best episode for me.
Ironically, Loras would have been much better off at the Night's Watch. And the Night's Watch would have been better off with him. And it would have been fire to see him erupt while meeting Stannis.
Tywin was going to send him to the Kingsguard, not the Night’s Watch.
I think Tywin was going to appoint him to the Kingsguard tho. But will, being sent to the Nights watch is the same fate basically, only that Nights watch is seen as a punishment (even though some people still pretend how honorable it is) whereas Kings guard is seen as more honorable. Tywin doesn't have a formal reason to send him to the Nights Watch but he doesn't have ti have one for Kings Guard.
Would be interesting to see Loras in Davos’ position in future seasons.
Love Liam Cunningham but Davos’ character in the later seasons didn’t always work for me in the position he was placed.

Question for all the "Thronies" - If Tyrion was written less like an idiot, and more like a manipulative and hate-filled 'monster' that wanted revenge; purposely bringing 'blood and fire' to Westerios and turning Daeny mad by his own devices ... would people be more pleased with the end result?
Do remember he has a soft-spot for broken things. Could also be written so it was his plan all along to get Bran on the throne ... along with the destruction of King's Landing for how he was treated throughout his entire life.
I feel this was Martin's original intention. Though Dumb and Dumber, along with executives, decided that Tyrion must remain "Good and Noble" being that he is a fan favorite and we ended up with what we did.
I think it would work better if Tyrion changed more significantly after S4 - so became malicious or broken or whatever. Then he could pursue some surprising goals while staying in character. What we got was Tyrion who was supposed to be the same but behaved like a complete moron.
In the books he changed a bit, for a bit. He became more cynical, resentful, pessimist and drunk. But he snapped out of depresion by the time he arrives to Mereen
@@grzegorzmj4881 The show omitted a big part of his escape, the Tysha confession, which kinda breaks him in the books. If in Dany he saw an opportunity for revenge or smth like that, and manipulated her in order to get that said revenge, I am sure that it would work.

It’s crazy how seasons 1-4 just keep getting better and better in levels that are kind of mind blowing.
I've rewatched the first 4 seasons recently and by gods the show was strong then! ❤
What is weird about the “plot armor” of the final seasons is that in a lot of other shows the final season is when you’re most worried about characters because that is when you cross over into the “anyone can die because this story no longer has to sustain itself” zone. But in the battle against the White Walkers, I knew generally who was safe because the show just wasn’t going to do the final Kings Landing battle without X characters around. But with the Red Wedding, the expected outcome Robb at least attempting his revenge one day was subverted … and it solidified that you had no idea what could happen to other people
Its cathartic to watch an essay about when GoT was at its best. The spin off series will come and go, the books might never get finished. But now I’m ready to simply remember when it was a show I couldn’t wait to watch, and talk about with my friends, and let it be.

I feel like Jon's justification for joining the wildlings is weaker than in the books
In the books, Mance tells Jon about how he was present in the feast for King Robert at winterfell. Jon replies to his question about why he wants to join by saying "Did you see where they put the bastard?'
It's a lot better because it ties with Jon's insecurities and resentments instead of the white walker plot
When people talk about the greatness of this show, how it was the best thing on television, they’re talking about Season 3. The first 4 seasons of this show were incredible. In my opinion, nothing will ever top the peak of this show… ever. The mystery, the hype, the characters arcs, world building, character development… I can go on and on. The entire world was intrigued and invested like I’ve never seen. There was nothing like it before or since. Such a shame how it all ended
that's because they were sticking relatively close to the books which are genuinely amazing!! there was so much more book material they could have adapted which could have taken the show to a much better ending, but they decided to start inventing their own storylines long before they got to the end of the books and from there it went downhill. the books are literal masterpieces. Stories within stories. the show wouldn't have failed if they'd just stuck with the story in the books and taken it to its logical conclusion.
Back when season 3 was on, I hadn't yet read the books or seen the show. While visiting a family member with HBO, I happened to catch "The Bear and the Maiden Fair" episode. No idea what was going on, but it was so good. Then there was all the Red Wedding uproar. But I'm still glad I waited and finished the books before watching the show.
Edit: I should note that the "Bear" episode was written by GRRM himself. What luck for me!
Charles Dance is always a win. Putting him in the same scenes with the other three best actors of this show (Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey and Diana Rigg) was always gonna be explosive and the best dinamycs in the show. The best season of any show ever (only competing with season 4)
How the show went from realism which made the person watching question whether the main character would even be around next season to just abandoning that concept and giving characters like Arya and Jon immunity to death
I will forever rewatch season 1-4, I’m doing it rn and just watched the red wedding for the 30th time 😫😫 brilliant BRILLIANT season. Maybe the best, I flip flop b/w 1,2,3, and 4 being my favorite. I’d probably say 3-4 is peak GoT book/show story lines
ASOIAF is possibly one of the best stories ever despite having such a large and sometimes complicated story
I started diving into the lore and main story all the way back in the start of 2018 when i was 12 and now i can really call myself a true fan after having the world of ice and fire book and making an ending better that the show and a big story to take place even after that .
It's great, I just wish it was a complete story : /

The closing scene of Jon and Igritte atop of the wall..... epic.
Completely agree-I think that while certain action packed sequences can be entertaining, they have to feel deserved as a culmination of tension and significant events that give meaning and nuance behind the violence. After a while, action scenes can get boring and hard to tell apart unless there’s something else tying it together. One of the reasons the earlier fight scenes in the show are so good is not only because they’re balanced out and bookended by scenes of subtle political intrigue and interesting conversations, but also because of how George R. R. Martin wrote the source material and how brilliantly it was adapted onto the screen. The battle of blackwater bay is one of the best action scenes on tv because it interspersed the violence and chaos of the battle with Cersei and Sanaa’s verbal sparring in the red keep while also giving more humanizing insight to both sides of the battle. We get great scenes of Tyrion taking chatter while Joffrey cowers in his castle and of Sandor dealing with his fear of fire along with Davos having to witness his son die and Stannis having to symbolically watch his dream die. I think this raises the stakes of the fighting and gives more depth behind action packed scenes of fighting. For season 3 in particular, the red wedding’s surprise betrayal, vicious brutality, and importance to the overall plot are only part of what made it so impactful because we also had a season’s worth of buildup to flesh out and further the characters so that we actually care why the red wedding is such a shocking, saddening event. In my opinion, without the clever dialogue and masterful storytelling to setup the red wedding, it wouldn’t be nearly as iconic.
I love how in conceding defeat to Tywin Olenna gives the most glowing, genuine compliment you could imagine from her
Also that conversation between Cersei and Tyrion is one of the few good things about D&D's changes, book Cersei didn't actually care about her children and couldn't have had a genuine conversation like that

it was during the show's third season that i started watching it, i made it time just three episodes before the red wedding happened and boy it was SUCH AN EXPERIENCE. i read all the books right away while waiting for the fourth season.....that was a great time
Because the Storm of Swords is the best book in the ASOIAF series and the 3rd season is based on the first half of it.
Walk of punishment, and now his watch has ended, kissed by fire, the climb and rains of castamere are some of my favourite got episodes.
When you know that S3 and S4 are an adaptation of A Storm of Swords you understand why the book is considered such a masterpiece
I maintain that Season 3 is the best of Game of Thrones. Three of my top five favorite episodes are all here. The political drama is so juicy and honestly Martin at his best. The Lannister siblings dynamic is so unique since they actually have to put aside their differences and bond over their mutual powerlessness against the colossus that is their father. The war was over when he reached King's Landing, and you don't want to believe him when he flat out says the young wolf's days are numbered. It's truly THE season for the Lannisters, but Jon and Dany are excellent here too. But let us not forget the introduction of the best character in the series: The Queen of Thorns.

The relationship between Tyrion and Tywin reminds me of Chuck and Jimmy's relationship in Better Call Saul. It is amazing how two wildly different shows that exist in such wildly different worlds can very similar stories.

I still remember going into watching this show quite late (probably around when season 6 was coming out) so I knew Sean Bean was gone quite early. I was still never thought it would be THAT early haha. I just recall me thinking "nah it's not happening literally in season one" oh....
The red wedding is phenomenal. I thought Catelyn wouldn't kill a innocent Frey girl, what would be the point but the acting showed me; she had lost, most of her family are dead and she just explodes with angry and sadness. She's dead anyway, might as well get whatever revenge she can.
I recently just finished the show for the first time and bro I fell to my knees during Red wedding. I literally had a 5 hour conversation in my head that lasted about 5 minutes on whether I should continue watching the show or not.

Yeah I always thought that they should’ve found some money to show at least part of one of Robb’s legendary battles that everyone spoke of in awe, admiration, rage and terror after the fact.

@12:30 - this is a major issue going from about season 5 onwards - they refused to add more to cast and so also refused to kill anyone (for the most part) before Season 8 - Bron for example - they kept him around for soooo much longer than he should have been

When I watched season three of GOT with my sister (I had already watched the whole show) when the red wedding came up she watched the whole thing and at the end of the episode she sat there with her jaw dropped for a good 5 minutes. And I was laughing at her reaction. She called me a spawn of Satan himself.
