SAP is not “HE that doesn’t set fires” it’s an AP shell with very high penetration that arms immediately it’s got a very high alpha and doesn’t care about over pens and will always arm unless it shatters or ricochets. 406mm SAP doesn’t care about most bow armor but can ricochet and shatter on side plating. As for the Marcopolo citadel it has very good citadel protection as the armor belt will arm or shatter most shells on it before the citadel is reached. And the angle of the citadel makes hitting citadels on Marco a challenge given any type of angle
Bow side plating allows a direct line to the citadel
@@SpartanElite43 this isn’t correct but I will give you a point although your comment is not correct I took a look at Marco Polos turtle back and realized it’s 25mm, this means it can be overmatched by 380mm guns. To address your point Marco Polo can almost get all guns on in auto bounce angles but yes there is a gap where when getting all guns on you can get citadeled. This is easily avoided by proper angling but the bow side plating doesn’t act as a direct line to the citadel as there is a 135 mm belt stretching past the citadel. The step deck is the real issue and it does act as a “shell catcher” but this will only lead to unexpected full pen’s similar to the amagi as both contain step decks!
@@pepegajones6541 I was going to say I literally dev struck Marco up close with Iowa on stream recently as I killed both Marco and Marlborough for a double strike.
I also guided Airsoft Alfonse into Devstrking the Marco last night while he was in Montana at about 6 km..
If you over angle Marco and someone knows to shoot through bow side plating it is almost guaranteed citadels
Marco Polo, together with her sister ship, Giuseppe Verdi, belong to the Ansaldo UP.41 design of battleships for the Regia Marina (Italian Royal Navy).
UP.41 was modified from an Italian design by Ansaldo to sell to the Soviets, thus creating a new design specifically for the USSR. However, that base design existed beforehand and continued to be worked on by the Regia Marina past the point that UP.41 was sent to the USSR. Rather specifically, this stemmed from the planning for the 1935/36 naval program, which sought to construct a considerably more powerful fleet by 1942, including an oceanic component from a new base in Somalia, which gave the potential for the Regia Marina to convince Mussolini on plans for 41 000 tons battleships to succeed the Littorio-class, which had already had studies undertaken since 1935. The design almost immediately grew to 42 000 tons, but had similar dimensions and machinery to UP.41 (they weren’t changed by Ansaldo apparently), with an armament of 3×3 406mm, 4×3 152/55, and 12×2 100/47. Ultimately, the ‘oceanic/breakout fleet’ program was scrapped by Mussolini, due to the drop in tensions with Britain after a relatively short war conquering Ethiopia. However, the RM kept working on the design, hoping to work it into future programs.
The design as it was in early 1936 was modified by Ansaldo and sold to the USSR, which became what we know as UP.41. However, the home-grown design continued to be worked on and modified through 1936 and beyond, growing to 45 000 tons. In December 1937 the ability to lay down two new battleships for the 1938/39 naval program was, after some debate, taken in favor of repeat Littorio’s, as the CSMM (Cavagnari) decided he wanted an already tested design that could be built quickly, due to the tense situation in the Mediterranean. Thus, the 406mm battleships lost their first chance.
They were again included in the 1939/40 naval program, to lay down after the launch of the repeat Littorio’s, but said program collapsed due to the escalating situation in Europe and then finally the outbreak of war sealed their fate, though the design was still being modified as late as mid-1941.
Thanks for the History!
was hesitant between the two but went with marco and no regrets had all gd matches the AP pen angles are so strong . just couldn't convince myself enough to be a sailing citadel with the British bb
SAP is fine.
Im not a big fan but I am glad to see something different.
As an offensive weapon I think it works better on cruisers and destroyers.....cutting out the chance to set fires with a BB is tough and a big play style shift.
Hello Spartan
Thanks for the video about Marco Polo's ship
I still chose Marco and this is my first Italian ship and I am very satisfied
That I managed to win this campaign in a difficult time
By the way, I opened several Santa boxes
And I fell
Georgia, London, Suzuya, Lightning, Molotov, Gallant
damn bro hope ur ok. try not to fall again
btw lightning? thats a tech tree ship
I love your ship review vids 👍🏼 Keep up the great content and I hope you had a great Christmas and have a Happy New Year Spartan!
Thanks, you too! Glad you enjoy!
I tried the SAP main gun upgrade and the one tip that can make the SAP shells effective is target the ship’s superstructure. That can increase the amount of points when using the SAP shells. Also for the reload problem, I think Ding Ruchang, Charles Madden or Paolo di Revel would would be effective in reducing the main gun reload a tad more.
A good note is that the sap pens around 100mm making it pretty good against anything french, american, and british, i've done 16k to a yammy once
Love these "Meet the...." videos so thank you! Always really informative. Also, I've heard you refer to your logo as a centurion helmet a couple times and I think it's actually more of a tribunes helmet as centurions wore a transverse crest, left to right as you look at it, so they were more readily identifiable on the battlefield (basically follow that dude!). You should have a centurions helmet for your logo though as you basically apply the centurion's approach to battle! 😂😂
Hey Spartan, I hope 2023 is a monumental year for you 🎉 wishing you all the best!
Thank you! You too!
2nd game in this ship i got a 240k damage game, i love this ship
Noice
I can’t wait for the PlayStation 2 release :)
Thanks for the review. Hope you get well soon Spartan 👍
Thanks
Sap hits really hard when you hit the enemy ships and does a lot of damage
Happy New Years Spartan
Happy new year!
I had a really hard time choosing between these two ship. I've had some good matches and some crap ones two. I went with the marco and just try to support the team as best I can.
Its always nice to see meet the vedios 🙌
That bloody hipper rolled out on my left while I was fighting 3 Republics on my right couldn't get my guns around quick enough thanks for sinking him for me
I tried to help! Gg
That’s a beautiful ship
SAP sometimes can hit hard in the way you never think it happens even the yamato's gun cannnot do that, and in the very common situation, it missed all the shells 🤪
Very nice spartan
Marco Polo is my new favorite ship
shock, gasp! he had done it! by the way you’re saying shock gasp is now my new favourite saying
😄
i dev struck a marco polo from full health to nothing in my kansas. and got 2 citadels on the marlborough straight after in the same match. so because i was able to take so much health of both of them showed me how weak thay are so i still dont know what ship i want to get.
Get well soon
Marco Polo is really good but the uk one is good to I have both it’s really hard to compare the 2 in preformence
One of these surprisingly deleted my wichita yesterday while I was angled and kiting from near full health.
Well it has 16 inch guns so it overnatches wichita
@@SpartanElite43 was expecting a few overpens and damage , not to be sent back to Port.
I have Marlborough and this ship (because I wanted Yoshino badly.) The Marlborough is much more fun to me. And the HE shreds with AL Nelson. 🔥
Also I find it crazy that the mutsu B has slightly bigger guns at 410 MM rather than 406 MM
Yeah the Japanese always liked to go slightly larger
@@SpartanElite43 i see why: yamato
I find I'm doing more damage with the sap over the ap.
I just picked up Marco polo since I liked roma
Noice! Hope you enjoy!
So far im not impressed with the Marco polo ... Now i wonder if i should have gone with the Marlborough instead. They should add an option to test the ships for like 5 battles before you decide which one to pick when it comes to these choice campaigns. But i guess their greed level is to high to implement this option and rather have a few people pay 17k doubloons extra to get both.
Anyway, Happy new year Spartan!
Hey brother don't doubt your intuitive decision i think you will be pleasantly surprised if you persevere.
You might even feel like the cat who stole the cream 😺😸.
🙊Hint Don't ignore the S.A.P
Happy New Year 🚤🛳⛴🎉🎉🎉🎊🎊🎊🎆🎆🎆
I agree with the test but As Peter said - it’s a great ship it will come to you
@@peterjoyce4223 The thing is, and i might be mistaken, it shouldnt be to much different from Roma, yet i have far better games in Roma then Marco Polo (no sap). I would expect it to do just as well as roma or even better, but it doesnt. All i had so far are decent games but no great games
@@XReflexian Yes it sure is a challenge to play but i have an indomitable will when it comes to mastering things and am thrilled to be presented with this unique challenge of a ship.
So that's my personality and that's coming through in my response so take that with a grain of salt.
I do also think she needs wargaming to give a loving buff to this ship and no doubt they will in time, Lets hope sooner than later.
Have a feeling they will be more responsive this time considering big bucks have been spent by some getting both ships and those customers are WGs bread and butter.🤑
Cheers and happy New Year 🏄♂
Spartan first I wanna wish you a new years and two are you gonna play the modern version of this game? Modern warships or something like that I forgot the name lol
So I got both cause I couldn’t decide, also I couldn’t believe that I bought sharnhorst for 3800 doubloons 🤯😊it’s such a cash cow
I'm leaning to Marco Polo
Bit surprised you didn't take Range in the last slot over Smoke on the Water as i know you like Range. Does SOTW really help?
Getting a little more time in the smoke can be nice
@@SpartanElite43 yeah i noticed in my Roma, i usually get 2 salvos off while in smoke.
Spartan one cuestion, Alabama or Massachusets???🤔 And Happy new year bro👍
Happy new year! I prefer Massachusetts with secondary build but Alabama accuracy build is pretty fun too
Sap is really nasty. I do 14 k on an angled BB.
I have to disagree with you about the SAP. I wouldn't say that SAP is slightly improved HE, because they aren't based off HE shells. They are AP shells with a massively reduced fuse timer. Large caliber HE shells don't ricochet or shatter on 32mm bows like SAP will, but if you know where to shoot, and RNG says yes, you can absolutely demolish people with SAP. What might have been a 15-20k superstructure salvo on a bow in BB at decently close range now turns into a 25-35k salvo, because no over-pens. I've done this to a Yamato that had about 30k hp left, and I knew I wouldn't be able to kill it outright with the AP, so I SAP'd him in the superstructure and killed him with one salvo. I've also seen the SAP dev strike cruisers that you would normally over-pen with AP. I'm not saying that SAP is fantastic, or PC strong, but it's not bad either. People that master how to use it will find it to be a very powerful tool in the right situations.
So for learning how to use SAP for the maximum effect in Marco Polo, how would you advice using it aka where to aim?
So far you said:
- bow in BBs: Shoot superstructure
- cruisers: shooting into his broadside or where?
Trying to learn how to use it to the best possible, as soon as I get it out of the campaign.
@@mikemyon3570 Think of SAP like it's AP that explodes as soon as it penetrates the first layer of armor it hits, while it also still follows the same overmatch rules that AP does. Marco Polo has 16 inch main batteries, so you can overmatch anything with 27mm of armor or less and get full pens. Also, because it has AP that explodes after penning the first layer of armor, you can't over-pen the citadel of cruisers that don't have spaced armor(Buffalo, Ibuki, and Neptune for example) and will get full pen damage on spaced armor as well, so shoot those broadsides.
Understand also that because it's SAP, it will have trouble getting damage against quite a few BB broadsides due to their torpedo belt protection, so it's recommended to use AP in that instance.
@@RTMassacre09 Thank you for explaining. I look forward unlocking this ship.
Valuable to know that overmatch mechanics still apply with SAP.
If it has sap secondaries it won't have sap main guns its this way too on pc. I have this ship on pc and fun but hard to get good games out of
I like to call these the Marco Yolo due to the amount of these ships I’ve deleted sailing right into the middle of the map trying to be a brawler 😂
SAP should be used on battleships nose in and on cruisers AP won’t full pen like Atlanta
Not the sharpest pencil in math but i still love your videos
😆
Just give me my Columbo!
Spartan I loved playing against you in this one, if you check the roster I’m in the triple div
Noice GG
Fishinboy19
I agree the Italians get no love…the one I do like is the duca, although low tier
Friend request sent my bro! I love to hang out with you sometime!
Surprisingly I've had Marco deal 9k to my angled vlady he shot my nose too.
Yeah I hit a conqueror nose in for 30k with SAP it’s just new and people don’t understand it yet
@@pepegajones6541 does it overmatch 30 - 32?
@@Poppi_the_Murder_Rabbit so the SAP overmatches 28mm but it’s ricochet angles are absolutely insane 70-80 degrees is the auto bounce angles of the SAP shells so shooting superstructure will yield high alpha and if just about any angle is given bow full pen will be crazy! To put that into perspective your average AP shell will ricochet 45-60 degrees. (Keep in mind tho SAP can only pen up to 102 mm so armor belts will shatter your SAP but 32 mm bows will be devastated by you)
@@pepegajones6541 so it can over match vlads bow?
@@Poppi_the_Murder_Rabbit no it can just pen vlads bow at obsurd angles
Just another ship that I think Spartan don’t like, I don’t think that we see this ship later, anyway good video
♥️ Marlborough it is don't no if I spelt that properly
Choose what you'd enjoy more...
I like Marco but Republique will always be my favorite BB. Viva la baguette 🥖🇫🇷
Her armor is pepega
I wish we had the exact over macth penetration of the sap rounds it would help out a lot with what you choose but I think it has enough penetration to over match the GK bow if I remember correctly of the exact over macth capabilities I think they need the sap for console cause it ain't like that on PC
ROMA on PC is a troll, specially dds and subs. I killed dds with AP. I want to see MP on Pc, Im very close to get it.
What's better ship bro Marco Polo or the English one. Cheers. 👍🏻🤝🏼
Personally I'm liking Marlborough more than Marco Polo
@@SpartanElite43 thank you brother
Hey Sparton, great vid by the way, im not a fan of Italian BBs on PC, they are just no good at the moment, they need some love from WG, imo Marlborough is so much better
Personally, I’m really feeling the Marco Polo. Both ships are solid but man I can’t put the Marco down brother 👌🏻
Right on that's the beauty of it some folks enjoy different ships that's why no matter what I say it is all subjective
Dante alighiere is my favorite Italian bb...it's noticable that the wg dev seems to favor Russian ships over Italian, something that's beyond me as the RM had way more historic REAL ships in comparison,,wot it sorta made sense being Russia's focus on tanks..but wow, I'd say a little bias is showing...
20k health Alaska gets one shot by SAP in one salvo. Imagine trying to burn that down 😂
Just use AP
@@SpartanElite43 No AP deals 20k on a saturated BOW in Alaska.
@@madddtango shoot the massive super structure of Alaska with AP that's my go to when I don't overmatch them
Would like to see the bad games in these meet the ?
The wargaming bullies us😂😂🇮🇹
SAP has a 14x higher alpha and your loadout was sap and he not ap that I could see
Bro, you got SAP all wrong. Shoot. At. An. Angled Yammi. Shoot the guns. You can get 30k dmg og pens
Finally, someone who agrees that SAP is overrated.
I disagree, just had a match where I was facing a Marborlo and I got several SAP hits over 10K. On my build when I use AP I get more ricochet and misses
I picked the Marco Polo
SAP is op on PC they don't want it to be on here lol
IM FIRST ME IM FIRST
If ya ain't first you're last
Nerd
Sus 🤓
I am 2 nd I am
Lol
This ship is a huge disappointment for me. Yes I have high commanders…yes I’m good with BBs. I can’t find its niche and just can’t seem to get any good games out of the 5 I’ve played with it. Regret not picking the Marlborough
You seem to have very low energy in this video
Yeah ive been sick the last 3 days, sorry
@@SpartanElite43 it was still entertaining
WG are scared shitless over balance with SAP clearley this ship is not competetive and this is just one more puch to get a ship in to the game with a lot of problems.Supertesters we dont need them we are the ginny pigs and it will take forever if anytime to get this ship in to proper place.Tier VIII balance is all over the place.
I honestly wouldn't say it's not competitive but I just don't know why WG hates the Italian Navy
@@SpartanElite43 Well Spartan you are a good diplomat to stretch that in to a nation by nation compare. I cant beilive there is no SAP secondary and the way this ships burn to the ground from HE must be a all time record high.I bet WG has moved passed this in the testing.
I am italian and it was really difficult play italian battleships for me because of the dispersion of the main guns ( i don't even have a very good italian commander).🥲
