Floatier shells, no heal unless you give up the smoke gimmick.. terrible detection compared to Baltimore both at sea and in its smoke.. personally I think this is currently “terrible”, and not in a good way

Thank you Jerk!!!! I have been banging that drum for days and shot down. I have played it almost exclusively the whole week and it just feels like a less good, less dynamic Baltimore. It has got some pros, but basically WG fucked the ship and its main feature with 13.5 concealment and 9.1 smoke fire. If they match Balti or will have a place. If they don’t you won’t see this ship in matches much beyond this update

Maybe after they buff it, I guess WG said they are adjusting it's stats next update. Me personally this game was a great example where radar is important and when you don't have it, then it means relying on carrier or team to spot. I use radar whenever available as a choice. Even on Minotaur 😎
Wargaming did admit that the smoke fire was an oversight and it will be corrected in the next update.
That should boost its value
good now i wont have to waste an inspiration (AL Belfast) to get it to 7.7. Will say running fully packed to get 3 smokes can be fun if and only if the team is spotting

It's an Oregon City-class cruiser, which is to say a Baltimore with a trunked funnel and reduced superstructure to get top weight under control. The only real difference is she's a post-war ship with the 3"/50 automatics. Anything else would be WG flavor. More to the point, what does you're $60 get you? Another Baltimore with better medium AA. Oh, and smoke. Oh, and no radar.
I love the rochester, AP kicks ass I believe max AP damage on my build is close to 6000 my wichita, des moines and Baltimore are around 5200ish buffalo is 5800 there abouts. Sure losing radar is a huge loss but with 4 sonar charges I just about have it up the entire duration of the match
Rochester has better AP max damage over Balti, by a good few hundred max alpha damage and better AA as standard - as bull said. I built into reducing the smoke fire penalty; have it down to 7.2km. The reds think I’m a DD when I smoke up and usually rush the smoke. Then I blap with HE. Obviously, you have to be mindful if you are spotted prior to smoke screen.

@@isaacball2687 check the stats. It does. Balti base max AP damage is 4600; Rochester base max AP damage is 5000 (same as AL Balti).
Evidently you don't have the balti as you would see the base stats are as you said, but seeing as we are comparing it to a premium, once you have the upgraded artillery mod the ap damage goes up to 5300, which is 300 more than rochester
@@isaacball2687 I said BASE AP max damage stats. That doesn’t encompass upgrades of any kind.
Well thats hardly fair as all premiums are a massive upgrade to their tech tree counterpart if you don't count them when they are equal

They already confirmed that they will be re balancing some stats of the Rochester on Instagram next patch, so that’s definitely good. I’m assuming the will be slashing the concealment a good amount

I been saying for a while they should do this with more ships. Iowa-Missouri Alabama- mass. Tweak the ship a bit but rudder faster or faster turrets why would you buy a radar less balti

Rochester was a next-gen Baltimore. Dubbed "Oregon City" class. Both are good ships. I prefer the Rochester.
Hey TBull, Very good, even-handed review. Maybe not as good as the Baltimore, but definitely has a place in the match. Love those AA builds.
decent side grade to the balt, focus AA or and or AP. smoke seams only useful to protect you from planes rather than cover you from ships
I’m glad I didn’t get the Rochester on day one as I originally planned 😅 I’ll wait for it to be rebalanced or buy it with global ex if it’ll available in the future
I think Baltimore really hits the sweet spot for all-gun heavy cruisers, with excellent guns and decent everything else. The Rochester I believe will come into its own a little ways down the line when/if carriers become more prevalent in the matchmaking. Divisions would benefit from the Rochester more than solo players, as the Rochester would be more useful with good communication between teammates. Overall I think it's good, more of a niche ship than the Baltimore which is just a good solid ship.
My argument with this ship is to not run smoke. Why? because unspotted DDs will spot you every time. If you are using smoke, it is because you are in a vulnerable position. Getting spotted means death. It feels like you get spotted EVERY time you fire in smoke in this ship. It's better to just use an island. The smoke can be an escape tool, but if used offensively, it WILL get you killed very often. Ditch the smoke and get the heal instead. You can't overextend with the smoke if you don't run it.
EDIT: T mentioned detection will be reduced. If it is reduced enough, this method is pointless. If they pull a WEEGEE and reduce it by 0.1, this will still be viable.
If they weren't going to decrease the detection I would agree with you. Sounds like they will fix it next update

No way at the cost. Maybe if it kept radar 10% hp buff….
T check out the Anchorage on the wg page and tell me it wouldn't have been wayyyyyy better . More utilitie ie ..torps (10km) sonor, smoke ect ...the fact we don't have a us ca with torps that are viable except flint would have been a strongER reasion for people to pick it up..this is of course my ever so humble Opion...

I couldn't justify getting a Baltimore clone that doesn't have radar. I think the only way I could go into my wallet is if we got a torpedo Baltimore. But I'm personally not interested in a Baltimore that sits in smoke and becomes a smoke HE spammer like damn near every other high tier cruiser these days
