    Back in 1986 i bought my 1st car which was a 74 Monte Carlo. I sure wish it was a 73 Olds 442 like this one. Those are still a kool l@@king car to this day. Today I own a 1968 SS Nova and I've owned a lot of GM muscle cars from the 60's but I still like to see those cars from the 70's cause thats what I grew up with.

    Thats a really sweet looking car with the big meaty tires and Cragar wheels. I think the 73 Olds 442 was better looking than the 73 Chevelle SS, GTO, or Buick Gran Sport. They weren't as fast as the pre 1971 442's but the 455 still made I think 270 net horsepower...which probably translates to 300-325 gross horsepower...still a pretty decent amount of power and you could easily modify them to go even faster by removing the smog equipment and installing headers and a less restrictive exhaust. I believe 73 was the last year you could get a 4 speed with the 455 too. You couldn't get a 455-4 speed GTO in 73. You had to settle for the 400 if you wanted to row your own gears. The 442 was the coolest of all the first year Colonnade performance models. I wouldve bought either the 455-4 speed Olds 442 or the Buick GS 455 Stage 1 with a 4 speed...likely the 442 because they were less $$$ than a GS and also better looking in my opinion. I believe the 73 Chevelle SS 454 was only rated at 235 net horsepower. Chevy was more focused on performance in the Corvette and Z28 Camaro by then like Pontiac had shifted it's focus toward the Trans Am by then. If I was buying any new GM product other than an SD455 Firebird Formula in 1973 it would've been an Oldsmobile 442 with the 455-4 speed combo

      The 1973 442 was down on power compared to the 1972 because the 308* and 328* cams that the 1972 had were gone by 1973.

      I wasn’t criticizing your car at all but it’s good to know I was on to something. I loved the video btw. It was scenes like this that I always looked out for as a pre teen in the early 90s. I loved driving past old service stations on my bike or in my parents car looking for these old fast looking cars that I had no idea what they were. I think it’s what really turned me into a gear head bc I was so unimpressed with Taurus’s and Chevy caprices but then I saw a 70 chevelle and was like wtf is that!?! 442s are my favorite btw. I got a 72 gto now but eventually I hope to sell it and get my olds.

    Love the 73 model; first of that body style change and the "S" or 442 version was the best but man, that thing has a fried torque converter. That front end should lift and the car bolt forward with that kind of revving. Classic characteristic of a worn out torque converter...

    • @Mark-iq6hi
      @Mark-iq6hi Před 9 lety

      I believe that it has a 2500 stall speed converter.

    • @tombest3562

    • @Mark-iq6hi
      @Mark-iq6hi Před 9 lety

      Doug Blake New it was one of them and not a worn out torque converter, it is to nice of a car for a "Classic characteristic" of someone who know's just enough to get by discussing classic cars.
