  • The Model Railway Club’s epic depiction of the approaches to Kings Cross in 2mm Finescale has outlived several of its original creators. The dedicated surviving team, ably led by Tim Watson has produced one of the most well-known, and famous, model railway layouts on the circuit. It’s prototype modelling at its very best. In fact, it’s probably the most famous layout on the current circuit.

    I have seen 100's of magnificent layouts over the years (decades), but each time I see Copenhagen Fields I am reminded... this is the one. It brilliantly captures the essence of London at that time.

    My mind is simply boggling at the invention, skill and sheer hard work that has gone into this. So many layouts are, through necessity, primarily a railway with a bit of scenery around it, but this is a full landscape with a railway in it, if you see what I mean, and it's all the better for it. Brilliant!

    I wish my grandfather could see this he was a driver on LMS . I was a signalman for nearly 50 years , and one thing on your beautiful model layout that was a NO, NO. On the real railway , was a brake van in front of a loco . It was considered a dangerous thing to do.

    This layout keeps me stunning every time I see it.
    The brass strip fiddle yard is a very clever idea, never to worry about track ends coming loose on the base board ends, due to cost you could apply this method for the last couple of inches on each board and use plain track in between.

    A beautiful, detailed layout, however--Above Copenhagen Tunnel portals we need to see Mrs Wilberforce's eccentric house at the end of Frederica Street--I believe Ealing Techs built the house over the end wall facing down to the Tunnel portals, perhaps two tiny furtive figures dumping a body over the Tunnel parapet?? But well done Model Railway Club for such a fantastic distinctive and fascinating layout! :-)

      When I saw the layout I asked about that. Mrs. Wilberforce's house was not there but the musicians were. Great film, isn't it? I modeled part of my N scale layout on Copenhagen Fields and I do have the professor standing on a platform below a semaphore- it comes down but doesn't hit him. I have the musicians, too.

  • @paullubliner6221
    @paullubliner6221 Před 6 měsíci

    The SINGULAR outstanding aspect of this model railway is not the level of quality of the 2mm modelling. That is adequate, but not "stellar". That outstanding, single conceptual aspect is the scope of the design. To SCALE with the only (admitted) concession to true to scale is the shortening of Copenhagen tunnel itself. True to full sized curves on a point to point (visible) system of trackwork and scenery are what make this "Display" so unusually convincing..

    Brilliant work - reminds me of my upbringing in the area in the 1950s/1960s. The Hillmarton Road-Caledonian Road junction just beyond Caledonian Road underground station appears to be a little odd and St Matthias church (since demolished) appears to be too far up Hillmarton Rd and at the wrong angle!

    • @brianrowlands9751
      @brianrowlands9751 Před 3 lety

      On further reflection, I think this church was St Mary's Liberal Catholic church and St Matthias or St Matthew was the other since-demolished church, slotted in between the buildings just up the road from and on the opposite side to Pentonville Prison. There was also All Saints down nearer to King's Cross.

  • @peterp7063
    @peterp7063 Před 3 lety

    It's beautifully modelled and the perspective very clever. The one thing that spoils it is the slight jerkiness of the engines and multiple units. This is typical of most if not all small scale model railways. I presume it requires some sort of smoother running electric motors to overcome it though I don't have the answer.
