- This concert at the Paris Olympia was supposed to be a very special and emotional for Ray Charles. It was his 70th birthday; and it was his first tour in this new millennium. That night, (November 22nd.2000) Ray Charles was supposed to play with his "Big Band" but due to an air traffic controller's strike in Lisbon; the Band was stuck at the airport. So, Ray had only his drummer, a guitar player and a bass player for the performance. But they worked out a new show, set list and arrangements in the hotel room and came on stage late. The show went on, and what resulted, was a fantastic and a creative concert, with a rare emotion and sensibility.

I was lucky enough to see Ray Charles three times live in fact in the 80s when he was making a comeback he opened up for the Chicago sting soccer team at the Rosemont Horizon and I got tickets for doing good at school I think I was in 4th grade

Mr.Charles was a testimony that GOD is real..From losing his baby brother to being blind Ray didn't give up .He use what Mom's taught him.One thing I did admire when his mom told him.nobodt in the world gonna feel sorry for you.you gotta do things on your own..That stuck with Ray that's why he didn't look for sympathy and he wasn't a fool at all..Sleep well Mr.Charles..You and your baby brother reunited once again
