I played the String Melody dry, without any effects. The background noise comes from the instrument, it is quite noisy.
The Logan String Melody is one of the earliest string keyboards (string machine). It was produced in Italy. In Germany, some units were produced under the "Hohner International" label - like the one in the video. The String Melody was inspired by the ARP / Solina String-Ensemble. It has strings in 3 footages (CELLO, VIOLA, VIOLIN), which are mixable via volume faders. ATTACK and SUSTAIN of the strings is tweakable. Each half of the keyboard has these features. Two monophonic bass presets can be added to the left half of the keyboard.
The String Melody is fully polyphonic and has a decent analog string tone. 3 footages can achieve bombastic string pads. I would wish it had some kind of vibrato...
The one you see in the video is a String Melody I. Some years later, the String Melody II was produced, which has some preset sounds in addition. I'm told that the mark II sounds different. - Věda a technologie
Those are the best analogue strings I've heard in a while!
Before I paid down on one of these I had to listen to your offering on how it sounds. I had fun playing it in the shop but I always use your videos as a reference for vintage synths whenever possible. Great video, great synth and great playing. Thanks
thank you! :-)
Iconic 1970's sound
Meravigliosamente analogica!
That sounds wonderful!
Really nice playing, love it!
What a lovely machine! I'm a guitarist with limited keyboard skills, but I really want one of these. :)
Lovely misty stringz!
Classic Keyboard
Awesome playing
thanks :-)
At first I always feel a little lost with those strings emulations sounds but I guess once you know how to play them it might be okay.
It does reach the greatness by 1:50, you are very inspired with this instrument. This is deep electronic music going one, it does not even need a beat tough it may be even be better with. Maybe not...
I just felt in love with the String Performer watching your videos, lush sounds and very beautiful keyboard. I need one.
I would say the best demonstration of the Hohner String Melody is 'Ballszenen' played by Klaus Wunderlich in multitrack entirely on the Hohner (except for the drums).
Great!
The machine itself iz lovely, az well.
Yeah funky bass too
How does this compare with the RS-505 ?
please give me thhe alimentation reference for this piano i need it
Have you tried the Vermona Piano String machine ? Is it good ? And what about the Elka rhapsody ?
I never had the Vermona. I already made a demo of the Elka Rhapsody 490 in 2011
I just saw it, thanks.
now I finally got a Rhapsody 610, but it needs to be restored. In a couple of weeks a video will follow :-)
Hello AnalogAudio1. Do you know if Logan or Hohner made any string/orchestra machines in the early-mid 1980's? My parents bought me a SIEL DK80 & Casio HT-3000 back in 1987. At the music store where they were purchased, I remember seeing a keyboard. It may have been a Kurzweil, Logan or Hohner. It was black with some red trim....and I believe it said "Orchestra" something. I can find no Kurzweil products that fit the description. It's just bugging me that after all these year, & even w/the internet, I can't figure out what it was.
+gjc82071 Crumar Orchestrator ?
+aandarcom Hi. Thanks, but I don't think that's it. I just Googled "Crumar Orchestrator" to see some pics. The synth I saw looked nothing like it. But thanks again for trying to help. ;-)
I assumed it was not Siel Orchestra because i thought that would be the first thing you would Google. :)
+aandarcom Yea, it wasn't a SIEL Orchestra, either. Thanks though. I doubt I'll ever figure out which keyboard it was. My memory has faded a bit. (after all, it's been close to 30 years) I just remember a big black keyboard that looked to be of typical mid-80's design, w/red letters that said either HOHNER or KURZWEIL, & possibly some red lines/trim.
I'm pretty sure about the "Orchestra" part.
Actually I'm wondering if it may have some obscure, lesser derivative of the Kurzweil K250....like maybe some expansion module placed into an separate keyboard or something.
I've seen many picture of the K250. I remember the music store in the local mall had a K250 back in the mid-1980s. (cost over $10,000)
I used to go in a play it a lot. But it was unlike any K250 I've ever seen online. It was installed in an upright piano case, with built in speakers. That upright model must be pretty obscure, because I can't find any info about it, online,....but I am 100% positive it existed. (since I'd played it dozens of times) Oh well. I guess some mysteries aren't meant to be solved. :-) Thanks again.
Farfisa Soundmaker? Wood body, black control panel with some red trim/writing on it...
so it seems they built it to have verb only on the high end... am i right?
Used by #JohnRobie on #PlanetRock ??? 🤔
Hi! How will you compare this model with Hohner string performer?
They sound very different. The STring Melody is actually from Logan, Italy, and the String Performer is from Germany, a real Hohner. I can't say one is better than the other, both sound good, they are just different.
@@AnalogAudio1 It seems to me that the bass is not so huge on the string performer that I have the chorus is less marked also. On the other hand the solo mode of the right hand of the string performer is really very playful. It seems to me that just for the sound of strings, the string melody II is much better closer to a solina, you confirm?
@@loiclaporte263 neither of them is close
@@AnalogAudio1 Ok thanks can you confirm that the string performer and the string melody 2 are also very different from one another? I'm looking for a string together with grainy bass but solinas are so expensive! Do you have a tip? Thank you in advance
@@loiclaporte263 yes, they are different beasts, sound very different. The Crumar Multiman is grainy in bass and sounds more similar to the Solina, see my Multiman demo. The Crumar Multiman is quite cheap in general. I personally like the Crumars more than the Hohners, but hey, it's a matter of taste
Alan Braxe probably own one of these (Palladium)
Was that an eminent 360 you had on the back?
It's an Eminent 310 U
Who's the best? Logan String or Solina String?
The Solina String-Ensemble.
A matter of taste, they sound very different - with the Solina sounding more harsh and brassy. I prefer the String Melody 9 times out of 10. The real downside with the String Melody is that it's really noisy as you can hear in this demo. I used a noise gate when I recorded mine.
Tones on Tail "Rain"
I have one for sale. completely restored.
Bonjour est il toujours en vente?
Broderns Lejonhjärta
I owned one and is shown on my personal website stevemccullough.net It was a great keyboard for it's time
so 1985 you got rid of your non midi equipment like Minimoog, Polymoog for peanuts to buy DX7 and that stuff? :-)

I will PM you today..
I'm not able to PM you about my Logan for sale (??). How can I reach you ?
