Can we talk about winning the Premiership and the FA cup and the Carabao Cup. I supported throughout the Keegan years and we didn't talk about coming in the top 4 .- I want to hear our ambition. Ambition is real even if we get a few disappointing results.

Next season we can concentrate on the league & domestic cups. Gives us time to sort out the squad, strengthen & recover. Hopefully less injuries with less games. Can’t wait HOWAY THE LADS! 🖤🤍

We dont and cant rely on others. If we want to challengeing then we start to act like a big clubs. We have standards and we didnt live up to it. There will be consequences on not making to Europe. Especially on the transfer market. It was in our own hands and we bottled it. Injuries didnt help but most clubs had lots of injuries.

I said this after the Man U game that this season was largely a failure and even if we scraped into Europe I would view it as such.
Looking at things objectively compared to our stated objective and measures the club set and we as fans set for this season we have largely failed on all of them.
The consensus at the start seemed to be European qualification (top 6 or 7 was assumed), plus a cup final, and a good showing in the champions league. For me I wanted to see progression from the group stage.
Premier League has been a major drop off both in terms of points, position and performance. I can accept there being mitigating circumstances but a failure nonetheless and ultimately failed to deliver European qualification.
League cup = quarter final. That is a failure vs target
FA cup you can argue was our best performance considering the draw we got and comparing to previous seasons, but still not a final nor semi final. I'll say acceptable.
Champions League 4th place was in my view a failure especially given the hype we heaped upon ourselves , and certain journalists heaped upon us after PSG. We basically capitulated from a strong position and were shown to not have the quality of player nor tactics. I accept that we never really had a good chance given the injuries but still a failure vs objectives.
Ultimately this is a failure of a season. Not a waste by any means as it has highlighted a whole lot of learning that needs to be done, and investment needed. We're not as good as many of us thought we were and defensively we've been quite appalling.
If you ask Eddie Howe honestly so you really think he'd say that this was anything other than a disappointing failure of a season. He sets himself tough targets and doesn't shy away and make excuses when he doesn't hit them. We shouldn't either.
I feel this is a real test of the character and winning mentality of this club and the ownership. I'm not saying that Howe should be sacked, but both of the managers of the clubs that have bettered us this season in terms of European qualification (Chelsea via league, and Man U via the FA cup) have either been sacked already or are facing the sack because despite relative success compared to Newcastle, they have failed in eyes of their clubs and ownership. They strive for excellence and don't accept short comings. We apparently strive for excellence but do seem to be willing to accept short comings.
I've never been an Eddie Howe believer. Yes he did a very good job in the first 2 seasons but that was within his comfort zone when we were the unexpected underdogs beating the big boys. Now that we think we're good and the rest of the league take us seriously we get found out and Howe isn't able to adapt preemptively. The managers in this league are not mugs, they are very capable of looking at the Eddie Howe tactics and adapting to address them. Howe is NOT capable of adapting because he seems to think doing the same things again and again and again is the way to win.....Don't get me wrong, he's a very hard working guy but that doesn't translate to effective when the pressure ratchets up and he is in a situation he hasn't dealt with before. He's demonstrated that he can't handle Europe and he won't get the chance again next season.
Let's not forgot that the ownership's first choice was Emry, a serial proven winner. Howe was a gamble which initially looked to have paid off but has subsequently stagnated and cost us.
There are so many issues that can and should be put at the manager's door. Tactics, player selection, training and over training, injuries and miss management of injuries, and lack of ability to get it done in the games that really matter. He by his own admission can't and doesn't coach the defence, that's Mad Dog's job.....well what's being said to Mad Dog then? Is he under pressure for such a shambolic defensive season? Or is he getting off with it because he's Eddie's right hand man?
I also appreciate and agree with the view that Eddie has been here and made the same mistakes before at Bournemouth. He says he's learned but I don't see it. As soon as the league figured out his tactics at Bournemouth they were found out and he couldn't adapt.
I fully expect that the UK based ownership will feel that they need to give Eddie next season but I'm not quite so sure the Saudi ownership will be as forgiving. I think he'll just about keep his job but wouldn't be surprised to see him go. If he does keep his job and we don't come out flying next year I can see him gone by October

europe has not actually been finalised yet, man ure are in danger because nice in france have qualified for europe and ratarse is the owner of them also, chelsea could have ffp worries regarding their participation because eufa have different rules than the premier league so would have to name a mostly understrength squad so might do what ac milan did and drop out

What do we do next season? Simple, we regroup and go again.
A domestic cup (dare we hope) and at least 6th in the league next season puts us right back on track.
