- I use my Octatrack, Digitakt, and Avalon bassline to create some sampled house music from scratch. Midway through the video, I end up blowing my mind with the the resample feature on Octatrack, and setting it to "random locks". The sample I use is from @tracklib and I have a link to it down below! If you're into making house music in a dawless setup with drum machines and synthesizers, you'll dig this! Follow along with me as I share my creative process and techniques for crafting unique and groovy house beats. Let's make some music together!

15:33 reaction and chair spin - pure gold! Random locks FTW
One of my absolute favourite features of the Octa for sure!
I love the fact that you include the things that don't work out as planned, and anyone who's ever spent any time at all making music and/or videos can relate to that. It's actually kind of reassuring to see someone with so much knowledge and skill having to deal with those kinds of things too. 🙂
"This doesn't really work, but I'mma pretend it does!" Dude .. stuph like this and you're honest and real vibe are keeping it real. I appreciate you, Ricky, keep it up!
The octatrack really displays the power of hardware. Doing things hands on in this sort of system allows for more creative freedom compared to just a daw and midi controller. Absolutely amazing track! Cant wait to see the next one
5:25 seconds and i just expanded my ability tree on my producer class....i had to pause to go get my 404 and try to immulate that ping pong move. will be back to finish video....your videos may be the most like a tv show you could catch on late saturday nights before the Rose Wrestling or in the morning before or after Mr Wizard. its like ive seen that in anoter life. Really appreciate your work my guy
The short pad vs long pad is brilliant!
"I literaly have chills!"
That's why I LOVE watching your videos, dude! :)
That reaction is so beautiful.
*chef's kiss*
15:30 gave me goosebumps. So freaking cool.
I put the same face when I heard min 15:30. I feel you my friend. Nice!!
I love these moments when you're making stuff and happy accidents turn into something awesome and unexpected. That happens to me in Ableton all the time. It's when beat making is the most fun and it always leads to my best beats. This video was a fun watch.
Ricky, you’re like the big brother I never had but needed. You give me that vibe. I love watching these production videos! Thank you.
There is a beauty to your workflow, I love the fact that you work off of your ears...
This guy is having so much fun like he is in heaven!! I LOVE YOU RICKY!!!
Love this, there’s such joy in the way you create music. And boy can you fly round that OT, that’s some muscle memory right there
This is such a dope track! So inspiring!
Ricky, you’re awesome man. Absolutely love your passion and you make siick music too. Thank you for these videos bro 🙏
I love your technique! Definitely going to borrow this.
This inspires the hell outta me. Nice work Ricky! Thanks for this video.
First time stamp: "I messed up." Gonna be another great video from Ricky 😁👍 Thanks!
YOU ROCK DUDE!!! I GOT GOOSEBUMPS TOO!!!!
The wholesomeness of this video displaying innocent joy.
That was incredibly fun to watch and listen to!
Man... that bassline with the random locks - wow
I’m inspired man Thanks for sharing 👾
Octatrak magic 🎉 it’s why I like it as a sampler +
Dope! Gonna have to try this with the digitakt and the td-3
👍👍👍 Man, you're awesome. Love your channel.
These extended jams are always a lot of fun. Just turn the volume up on whichever synth is closest and jam along while watching. Thanks!
I also just started summing and recording in my synths to the octatrack/ and doing the sample, playback slices random locks. It’s dope. Gotta get a part set up to pop 1/4note inverted exponential LFO to the lo pass filter, to simulate side chain ducking
Yes! I love doing that too. It’s been a great way to just keep it moving forward
Dope beat!
Bomb of a track....❤❤❤❤
loved the random locks reaction, always dope Ricky!!
Mate. I love it. That random bass line chop. Get in!
yoo i really love the sound of the avalon synth, it sounds so beautifully fat. awesome video Ricky
this sounds great! I would never do this myself but i can totally enjoy someone else doing it.
Thanks for cruising through STG!
Love this. Have done the random locks thing with a tb-03 before but that Avalon is just lush 😅
They sound amazing. I've never played on an original 303 or an Avalon, but the Avalon sounds so rich and thick. Shame they like hens teeth and they stopped making them.😮
Captured the lightning in a bottle on this one Ricky. Especially had me vibin' when you were messing with the bass line at the end ha
Duuuuuuuuuude! OMG that track slaps!
This was the dopest
Your knowledge/speed on your gear keeps amazing me ... An example for all of us 😊
And even if I'll never have an octatrack, I enjoy watching the workflow 🙂
Seriously - I'm always amazed at his speed. What I love is the mindset to commit and move on. I take way too long to mess around with the small things.
A sweet little loop with that piano!
You are the shit dude. I love watching you work!
Brooooo that track was 🔥🔥🔥
GET EM RICKY
Dope ❤
Is there an affiliate link for your talent?
I don't care how long it takes, you need to recreate this track and release STAT!!
I THINK I still have the Avalon pattern.. so we’re halfway there..
@@RickyTinez Livin' on a prayer??
Funny how I just discovered the 'create-random-locks' on my Digitakt.. and am blown-away the same way ;)
Lmao i just chopped this exact sample last week! Crazy to see what you did with it, keep on jammin and thanks tracklib! Haha
When you do mess it up it reinforces how awesome the great sounding parts are.
this slaps!!!
Nice !!!!!
Damn Ricky, that was dope. Thanks for the tunes and the inspiration. Gotta appreciate those happy accidents.
Viiiibbeesses. When you brought that second acid line in I would have muted it on the A cross fade and gone back to the original line. Would work great for a build up. Nice one man!
Oooo that’s a good idea!
That's sooo cool man, very clever use of those basslines from the Avalon!
The only sad part is that I'm still waiting for my Avalon, orderd some couple years ago from the last ever production run. Hope to get my hands on it sometimes in the future 😓
smoove!
Damn that was nasty 🔊
YUMMM
the hype when the random acid hit gold first try was magical
Rad!
Awesome vid !! BTW I wouldn't have noticed about the auto focus, just text over it fixes it
15:35 - Behold! The happy accident!! Those moments make all the struggle worth it.
Damn you cranked out a nice house track pretty quick. Is Against the Clock still being done?
I have no idea why they stopped that series, it could have run forever.
17:55 Sir Mixalot reference. Swass
Does your grey octatrack have an orange func button?
Boss!
15:33 spirits are ONE
I didnt think I needed wireless headphones until I saw you pop off and do a full 360 in your chair.
Hey ricky
Goosebumps!
Is the random slice selection function also aviable in the digitakt?
IT IS! When in the slice machine mode press yes when you’re on the SRC page!!
15:45 is where the magic visited
i just realized the gray func key on your digi, is it a special edition or something? as always man, you're such an inspiration :)
It‘s just the Octa FUNC key. You can easily swap them. People sometimes put the black T1-T4 keys from the Octatrack onto the Digitone, instead of the coloured ones.
@@vinylarchaeologist ohhh that makes more sense! ty :)
mute play at the end 🤔 I loved it
Hello, I want to learn to use those machines, in six months you can do good stuff?
🪄 MAGIC ✨
My name is Pipo so reading you name your Ping Pong like that was wierd to say the least 🤣
🙏🏻
The 123.9 bpm hurt my eyes😵💫😵💫😵💫
I find that the Octatrack often interprets incoming BPM as being one tenth of a beat per minute less than the incoming clock. My shit is very often reading 119.9 or 179.9
Need to smoke a joint for this one !!!
what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought.
LOL
Ya! I'm there. lol
woooooi goddamm
That was pretty cool, though to be honest, it was just itching for some sub bass under it.
What is the value of using an Octatrack AND a Digitakt for a set like this? Isn't it a little redundant, or is there a reason to have both?
16 tracks! OT usually handles stems for me and Digitakt is dedicated drums 🪘 for the most part
What I like about what you did is that you were able to create that slice in real time while everything is still in motion. Maybe you did it in real time, I don’t think you cut the video or anything.
I think if you had 2 o tat racks and another sound source , 1 for each, you could do lots of dope shit in real time. Although you are doing a great job with what you got! If you would just mix out of this mix into something else, it would be great to see. How about just doing a jam freestyle style, for an hour, no demo, no talking. Maybe I don’t tune in enough.
This video went out in like a minute
I love the low passed filtered sample the most. The acid bass is not so much mine 😅
Those "chills" moments are it for me. Even if I think my track sucks the next day, those aural orgasms are enough!
The next day can go do one as far as I’m concerned. 9pm-3am my music always sounds awesome lol
Bro did u live in south Pasadena ? Weren’t u my neighbor daft punk aren’t French
oh man, that looks like sum phun toys
:)
Why are there no more intro's? What an I missing, dude?
You left your Digitakt FUNC button in the sun too long…
breh
At one moment I have to apologize but... I said : WILL YOU SHUT THE F UP ? I'm trying to listen to this song man !
