You can do all that without joining a frat.
I'll tell you, these things are basically methods of torture. You didn't miss anything, it's not nice or safe.
You don't need any of this to join a frat. Just treat it like any other friend group and don't do what you don't want to. A frat even 10-15 years after college can help you make friends, land jobs and take you ahead in your business.

Subjecting yourself to humiliating and uncomfortable challenges, just for the potential of joining a fraternity(where the hell does all the hype come from?!), is ridiculous and beyond illogical.

From my hazing experience (high school wrestling team initiation) I didn't subject myself to anything---I was ambushed and just had to take it lol.
From my lifeguarding initiation, the only thing that one had to do was be thrown in the pool water after hours. That's really all about it though.
And seeing a bunch of young men nearing their early 20s acting like a bunch of hormone driven drunk immature 15 year old teens is pretty humiliating in itself.
It’s only ridiculous and illogical if you think like a normal person. While overwhelmingly most people in frats are probably normal, or become normal, these rituals come from secret-society nonsense that is intended to be dark and humiliating and could be used against you if you ever turned against the brotherhood. It ensures loyalty. The frat hazing is a downplay of this, turns it into more of a game than anything. I agree that it’s stupid and in general I’m not a joiner. That said, if you understand where this comes from and why it’s not as illogical as it seems. It’s just dark and twisted.
The first and second story of how the guys were separated from the group disturbs me. Having to not see and being tied up whilst following the frat group seems like a open opportunity for people to easily kidnap them without the frat group even noticing
That’s honestly probably why those people could kidnap them so easily. They probably knew about these types of rituals
Yeah you'd think theyd at least be smart, and still watch the pledgees the in secret (tell them or not) at least you'd still be there to supervise
Yeah exactly, so irresponsible. Frat has absolutely no concept of the crimes they could possibly be charged with if something did fatally happen to these people.
Also being on a beach at night is sketchy asf tbh
I find then frustrating. We could have had 2 less frat guys in the world.

THATS WHAT I SAID, if you probably would have told them that your frat does that same imitation everytime they could probably pin point the next time the captures will come or probably tell them how they knew where to put your shirt at behind your frat house 🤦🏽🤦🏽🤦🏽 and they could find them
I went to a frat initiative retreat years back during my freshmen year of college. It was in the middle of winter. Halfway through getting changed in the bathroom, I was thrown outside of the cabin in my underwear and shot with nerf water guns. Keep in mind it was probably less than 35 degrees outside. Had to spend a few hours outside wet and in the cold, they locked the doors. My saving factor was actually a homeless man who found me huddled up freezing in my underwear. He told me to follow him to a trash can fire he had relatively close by. He lived in between the wooded area the cabin was in and the suburban area close by. He didn't even refer to himself as homeless, rather a permanent camper. He lived in a tent that was very well kept and clean, not what you'd expect from a typical "homeless" person. That fire warmed me up, and by then I went back to the cabin with a towel around me for warmth. (Thankfully they unlocked the door by then) I left for home the next morning, and never had anything to do with a frat afterwards. But let me tell you, when the homeless guy approached me in the dead of night in a wooded area as I shivered outside of the cabin, you better believe I was scared at first 😂 I later learned it was a common hazing practice of that frat, and the homeless man would make rounds to the cabin on certain nights to check for freezing initiates. He said that he was afraid someone might eventually die of hypothermia if he didn't check, and he'd get blamed for it 😂 I went back a week or so later to thank him and had a conversation with him. He didn't want anything in return, he truly was happy and said he spent most of his life on the road and sleeping in his tent where he could. Never asked what he did for food, maybe he lived off of begging? 🤷♂️ That one area always seemed to let him stay unbothered for long periods of time. Truly a terrifying and life changing moment.

Putting someone in a position to be harmed. Like those kids that ended up dead from pledging. Hazing is absolutely real. This is very possible.
@@hippychick420 When did I say pledges weren’t dangerous, or that hazing isn’t real? A circle jerk of cult leaders in the night isn’t the typical hazing experience. Most of the pledge deaths are alcohol related, not from malevolent cult leaders. Anyways, my point wasn’t even concentrated on frats. This channel in general has become formulaic, and over the top with a lot of these stories. Many people agree with me on this.

Hazing is such an unnecessary and cruel practice. I ended up dropping because it was so traumatic and even over a decade later I still have nightmares and anxiety about it. One of my other pledge brothers was diagnosed with PTSD shortly after and another was put in the hospital. The reason I left was what I was tasked to do would surely have killed me that night.
If you are a victim of hazing, just know you are not alone, and its not worth it. All of my closest friends in life had nothing to do with fraternities and I would never wish anything like that on my worst enemy.
My heart also goes out to those who didn't make it out alive. Its truly disgusting and I shame those who encourage this type of behavior.

@@dimchris6426 Im not 100% sure - I think he was assigned to something completely different from me. I was meaning to ask him but I never got the chance. I think he ended up withdrawing from the university.
Also keep in mind this was back in like.... 2012 so over 10 years ago.
I'm very happy that my university educated me and every other student about the dangers of hazing. It's very, very bad and has even gotten students killed in the past. Please be safe, and do not participate in any kind of hazing activity ever and report it if it sounds dangerous.
Also, the last story involving the NYC Subway system now makes me want to see a "3 scary true Train stories" video from Mr. Nightmare. It should feature stories involving excursion trains, steam trains, ghost trains, museum trains, etc.

When I pledged my sorority, I told my mom and she freaked out because she watched a Dateline episode about hazing. I ended up loving my experience thankfully!

I never understood why someone would want to join a fraternity or whatever. It’s stupid and the idea that you have to do something dangerous & embarrassing aka hazing just to join it- IS stupid.
You see/hear a lot of students ending up in the hospital or dying from drinking too much or hurting themselves doing some frat hazing thing. To me, it just seems like they get students to do real stupid, dangerous, & embarrassing stuff to jjoin the frat or whatever.
Just make friends, cause a real friend wouldn’t make you have to do stupid, dangerous, & embarrassing stuff.
Like, what’s the point of putting yourself in a dangerous situation to join a group?

From my experience I joined a frat at a smaller college cause it was either that or sports and I am a commuter and wanted to get involved I was never hazed we just did fun stuff and every single time we were told if you don’t feel comfortable let us know but the stuff we did was just fun I know every time people bring up hazing I usually say it’s the bigger schools cause I know personally I would never join if I went to Penn state or WVU, smaller school frats are usually a lot more closer and actually a family, like I said it really depends at the school I know I lucked out personally and met some real solid dudes

The first story is just insane 😬 Imagine if they'd had the boat beached and managed to get him on board before he figured out what was going on. And the second story isn't much better, they both got so lucky to figure things out in time

As someone who is a train enthusiast, I strongly advise against walking on any active railroad line. Even with a time table, you never know if the railroad decides to run an extra train or maintenance of way train or etc. Many people are killed every year trespassing on railroad tracks. Stay safe!

Hazing in North America is fuckin' wild. My parents went to university in India, and they had hazing too, but it was a lot more tame, like having to eat 20 rotis (flatbread) without any curry/gravy to dip them in.
That 2nd story.. chills. The mental image of that cult is gonna stay with me. The brothers that initially ran back to get the first cult member are real bros for that. I’m happy nobody got hurt.

it is. but a lot of fraternities that do haze manage to sneak it. it was legal back before the 2000’s. if any fraternity is caught hazing they usually get suspended if it’s minor. if someone dies it will most likely be jail time for a lot of them

as a guy in a fraternity you just have to make sure to be in the right crowd. luckily my school is a D2 so every one knows each other. we don’t commonly allow randoms at our house. especially if they look sketchy
if you go to a big school and plan on drinking a lot that night. just make sure to have 1 friend or more with you that’s sober enough
