Cool vlog Jordan. Big Brady Bunch fan. Just an FYI though, Gregs hair turned Orange not green.
That's what I thought, but I was recounting Sherwood Schwartz exact story from an interview and he said green.
yup..fact checking is important .. also the original Title was the "Brady Brood"...
And all the rabbit’s fur turned orange as well! 🤣
@@billdivine9501 Greg's Orange hair was ahead of it's time.
That was from the title, Hairbrained Scheme.
Had a brief conversation with Robert Reed years ago after seeing him in a play. A kind man who took the time to talk. Good memory.
Well that's such a special moment! Good on you!
@@johnhughes1783 kindness makes a huge impression.
What a nice memory. 😊
What broke my heart was hearing how, when he knew he was dying, he called Florence Henderson & asked her "will you tell the kids?" meaning the 'Brady kids'. That really was his family.
I'm sure she'd tell them and they would go.
“Will you tell the kids?”. what a sweetheart.
Tell the kids he was a poo pusher?
@@RadioRich100 Is that a shampoo salesman!!!? 😅
🤯😮💩💩💩💩🙉👍
@@RadioRich100 Your comment shows what kind of person that you're really are!
I left that carved stone behind his headstone over a year ago. Glad to see it’s still there
Cool
That's great!
You truly loved the show, I didn't realize it until now.
Very nice! I was glad to see that. I thought his stone should have something but when he showed that, I thought perfect!
Very nice
Was in L.A. trying to catch a cab. I'd been suffering with a sore throat and still trying to hail a cab when I heard "Taxi" ! Yelled. I turned around and Robert Reed politely smiled. Quite a memory.
My siblings and a few friends went to a restaurant in Amarillo, Tx. The entire time, I kept looking at the man at the bar. My sister was not sure, but I was a Brady fan and I knew, it was Robert Reed. As we were leaving, I stopped and said hi and that I liked his work. He managed a smile and said thank you but I got the feeling that he was very sad. I wished him well and left. It was not too much longer that I heard he had passed away, I guess three or four years. I have always remembered him and how he managed that smile to a younger (mid-20s) girl.
As a teenager in the late 70’s, I bagged groceries at The Pantry grocery store in Pasadena California. Robert Reed lived nearby would shop at the market. The first time I saw him I immediately knew he was Mr. Brady. Nice man.
Met him in Charleston WV of all places! He came to see my brother sing at a restaurant called "Windows On The River" in the Holiday Inn. I got to sit next to him. He was so nice!!!
Wow! I work in Charleston and remember “Windows on the River”.
DEAREST ROBERT REED you were a huge part of my childhood I'll miss you forever continuing resting in eternal peace sir🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺
A huge Brady Bunch fan. I lived in Chicago area 20 years, maybe 5 miles from this cemetery. Never even knew he was buried there. Thanks for sharing the video.
I remember one of my young life’s greatest devastations… when I was in 3rd grade, so ‘93 I think, my mother asked what I wanted for my birthday and I said I wanted to go to a live filming of the Brady Bunch. I watched the reruns on TBS every single day… she broke the unfortunate news to me that I was, what, 20 or so years too late 😭😔
Wow, that kinda hurts.
Robert Reed was definitely a prime example of a solid TV Dad. Had no idea about his personal life, but it doesn't matter as he was a good actor.
Agreed. No 1 can ever remove his body of work.
@@dannyboyd9462 It's like it's a part of history. A cool legacy.
He def had closet secrets but he was a cool guy...and close with the brady cast!
He was a bone smuggler.
@@dannyboyd9462 If he kept his ass out of it, he would still be alive.
Sounds like the story of rock Hudson - that blew my mind when it came out!
Yeah, I think sexuality is nobodies buisness, unless it is peadophilia
Yes I can remember the shock on my mom's face when she found out about Johnny Mathis as well...broke her heart cause she thought all his love songs were towards women...its just the things you think when you hear songs etc .
I remember as a kid seeing brady re-runs everyday in the 80s. I heard he was very close with the Brady cast off camera. What was weird was that his hair got all afro curly later on...when thr show started he looked great!
The trend in hair for men was curly in early 70s so he probably got a perm. Looked like the Brady sons did as well.
Looks like that trends sorta coming back I see a lot of these younger males with really curly hair
I remember my older brother coming home with a perm. He got a little angry when I started rolling around in laughter
My family and I watched The Brady Bunch all through its original run. Loved the show. Sad Robert Reed couldn't just accept that he was just doing a job that many would have loved to have and just went with the flow. Reminds me of Larry Hagman on I Dream Of Jeannie who was difficult to work with during the run of that show. Great vlog as always Jordan. I look forward to watching your videos every day.
Thank you for this. I grew up on The Brady Bunch. I remember one time in the 90s I was in a book store buying some books. As I got in line to pay, I noticed that Florence Henderson was in front of me checking out. I didn’t want to bother her or draw attention to her, but as she walked away and I came up to the counter the cashier and I looked at each other and we excitedly exclaimed in unison, “Mrs. Brady!”
LOL
He was one of those actors who thought he should be a "serious" acttor which is something many actors wanted to be seen as back then. Now we know that what the world needs is fun and humor and levity because life gives us enough "serious" issues as it is. Humor unites us and I'm glad he was eventually able to be a part of that.
Well said!
In Sherwood Schwartz's book, he said that if ABC had decided the renew the show, it was already planned to be with Robert Reed replaced.
The Brady Bunch ran its course because the kids were getting older.
Yep. That would’ve surely ended the show. Switching a main character, after that length of time doesn’t go over well with fans. Especially with that type of show.
@@GeminiladyJackson-xq6hcI agree 💯.
Robert Reed has done an excellent job as a father on the Brady bunch his charisma was as an actor and as a human being very kind person..
Just so you know, yes the hair tonic episode was the "jumping the shark" episode for the Brady Bunch. Robert was ultimately right about the "believability" of Brady Bunch episodes. Watching this entire series when it first aired, while being Jan & Peter's age, was so exciting and a blessing to have during those preteen and teen years.
It jumped the shark when Oliver came to stay with them!!! Do your homework
You are in your mid-60's now? I figure cause I was in like first grade watching them.
@@metalmike570 no 54
@@sfrank8687 Well then you watched re-runs. I saw the original ones.
I never understood why his hair got all curly when i was a kid. He looked better when the show started
I was on “WinLoseOrDraw” & Mr. & Mrs. Brady were my celebrity partners! (Wish I could find it somewhere!) They we’re both nice, Florence was especially warm. Robert had a wrong answer and I knew the right one, but caved into that Mike Brady charm-and lost 😞 Still a great experience. I heard about how difficult he was and now understand he was just projecting how unhappy he was at not being able to come out and be himself. Too bad his misery had to effect others…but the Brady kids did say he was like a real father. As an actor, if I had to work with him…I’d be less than happy with a whiner and a non-team member. RIP Robert Reistz.
It had to be hard to be doing what you love but not really what he had in mind, and also keeping a secret that could threaten your whole career. I'm glad he got on so well with the cast and stayed close through the years.
Robert Reed adored the Brady TV kids.
Good morning to you and Jah! A great tribute to a memorable man.
Robert did a college speaking tour in the last year or 2 of his life. A college friend was in charge of taking care of visitors/celebs when they visited the campus. In essence she was a gopher/concierge. Before his lifestyle was widely known to the public, she told us how he was unhappy about the speech and requested to be taken to a gay bar. She was taken aback a little, she had never had a request like this before and had to ask around to see IF there was even such a place in town. She went to the bar with him. She said he was very reserved at first, but the more he drank the more wild he’d get. She said by the end of the night he was dancing on the pool table!!! I remember her saying “no one will ever believe I took the Brady Bunch dad to a gay bar!” She was right… we listened in disbelief but then realized she was telling the truth.
That was an interesting memory. I think I would have loved to have met him.
@@sheriheffner2098Yes, I agree. I feel he was a very empathetic individual.
Great job as usual Jordan. You are always so sensitive and respectful to your subjects. best wishes and gratitude to you!
Thank you!
Poignant learning how deeply he valued The Brady Bunch, as well loving those children. Thanks, Jordan, for sharing this complicated, quality life tale , and soul aspiration. (PS I, and I'm sure many of your viewers, watched the Brady Bunch not in syndication, but freshly, on Friday nights, along with The Partridge Family, The Odd Couple, and Love American Style. Big line up, Jordan).
Omg, I remember every single one those shows that you mentioned here. We also had the Love Boat, Fantasy Island and then on Saturday mornings H.R Puffinstuff and the list goes on. Now that really takes me way back to when I was a kid of about 11 or 12 years old. Thank You for mentioning those shows. And, Thank You Jordan for taking me back to my childhood as well.
Yess, what great memories from back then. Loved watching all those shows on Friday nights
I have to say this was a respectful episode from our dear friend Jordan. Also Robert Reeds expression and eyes in the photo of him wearing the red tank top really made you wonder what he was thinking. Seemed like regret and sadness, very introspective, a bit dark, I really wish he could have had a better life.
Yeah he was good on Brady Bunch. I remember him on other things like a bad guy on knight Rider & Columbo. Ohh he was a father in Boy in Plastic Bubble too.
I remember he played some sort of bad guy principle or so when i was a kid. I was like wow...thr brady dad is older and bad...with an afro!
Thank you for talking about Robert Reed with such respect and admiration. He was an extremely gifted actor that had a major role in such an iconic tv show. He left behind an amazing Legacy that can be seen today. Rip Robert Reed .
I once heard that there was an early 1980's pop group known as Troubled Funk, and RR was the leader of that group. Their only album was called Drop The Bomb.
In the late 1980s I worked in Lombard, IL with a Jim Rietz who was a distant relative of Robert. Jim had recently found out they were related and showed me correspondence the two had tracing back family roots. It was shortly afterwards, Robert passed which was sad for Jim since it was special for him to connect with a famous actor.
wow small world, is the Family Swiss or German?
@@TheHustlehustle09 Germany, Jim would go there summers to buy champion bloodline German Shepards and the occasional Benz.
.....hoping to YET connect with a distant cousin of mine by marriage and year's end, Diana Canova - she & her family are not TOO far from where I live, either.....we're both of SOME Cuban descent otherwise, too.....
Had a feeling but thanks his last name I could not figure it out but thanks for clearing that up@@glennmcgee1729
Jordan, you did a fantastic job telling his story, thank you!
As far as I can remember back, I have been a Brady Bunch fan, they have always been a happy part of my life!!!
Rest In Peace, Robert Reed.🌹
❤ I remember this show on first run. Oddly he seemed disconnected in a way. I just never warmed up to him. Funny how he lived a lie all of his life but couldn't deal with the small things like strawberries have no smell when cooking?? You do you man. RIP
That's a great comment. I felt the same way, there was a disconnect with him. Thanks for pointing that out.
Love how you tell their stories! Makes you fell like we know them personally.
Good video, Jordan. The one and only time I saw Robert Reed in person was when a friend and I saw him sitting alone at the bar at Gus's BBQ in South Pasadena, CA, just a few months before he passed. Apparently, he lived not far from there in Pasadena. Between living a secret gay life and battling HIV, I'm sure his final years were less than pleasant, but he certainly was a talented actor and will always be remembered as Mike Brady.
I used to live near So Pas and had an identical experience at Gus's. Me and a buddy of mine went there for a nightcap and to shoot some pool and he was at the end of the bar drinking heavily. It was a bit sad to see him like that. He asked us if we wanted to go "party" with him at his place but we politely turned him down. It was well known amongst the locals that he lived close by in a nice place across from the San Pascual Stables in So Pas...
@@thewurm9177 Interesting how many celebrities lived in that area. As a teenager, I worked at McDonald's on Fair Oaks, and it wasn't unusual to see William Christopher from MASH or game show host Wink Martindale pop in for a beverage or some food.
What an interesting vlog. I loved the show & it's sad to hear these stories of how bull headed he could be. He brought so much laughter & joy to all of us that it makes you wonder and hope that he was happy all those years. So sad to hear that he had two diagnoses that were terminal. He was a great actor.
Many thanks Jordan, this was a really fascinating tribute. It made me wonder how his career would have turned out, had he
made the decision to concentrate on the stage instead of television (he appeared to study the scripts and the characters he played with great seriousness). However, the amount of recognition and affection he received from his television appearances
as 'the father of the Brady Bunch' would be hard to beat. Really interesting vlog.
Loved him on Mannix too , my fave. Thanks for covering this , very informative! I did not know he had a child!
I love Mannix, I watch it on METV in the mornings.
@piscesempress1978 I liked him on Mannix, too. A more dramatic role which based on this vlog, it appears was his true desire.
Thank you Jordan for the wonderful tribute to Robert Reed. He was always a favorite of mine.
I always loved the Brady Bunch! Thanks for sharing your videos! And by the why you are so incredibly handsome!
Robert Reed was very handsome. Not sure audiences ever noticed. He changed his look with a curly Afro-type hairstyle. It all came together on the Brady Bunch during the shows regarding Hawaii.
He had a wonderful physique and he donned swimming trunks - that and the curly mane made him quite striking.
He was so beautiful! I mean stunning! We are used to seeing his pictures from the 70's when he was a bit older and had the curly afro and everything. But when you look up his younger pictures, he was an absolute stone-cold fox! I know there were MANY women that were heartbroken! lol
Thanks for doing this. Grew up with the Brady Bunch. Old enough to remember them on prime time TV.
A few years ago I lived right across the street in the apartments from that Cemetery on Old Orchard road. Wish I knew at the time I would of visited. Thank you Jordan!
I know exactly which apartments! My great grandparents and great uncle/aunt are buried there!
The serious element he brought to the show was the key to its success.
The voice of reason
Love this show to this day. He sounds like a complicated but kind man.
Met Mr. Reed at LAX back in the early 80's. Super nice . 😊
Crying shame he didnt live to this decade...sad he had to live such a secret life, no one should have to live that way
Sometimes Jordan's episodes are so poignant and touching, I am literally bamboozled by it. The video ends and I just sit there, in a few moments of quiet reflection on the subject. The Brady Bunch was a huge part of my late childood. The first two years, I watched religiously, as I was Marsha's age and my parents were the age of Robert and Florence. My father was in Vietnam and Robert Reed became like a surrogate father for me. I wished so fervently that I had a family like the Bradys. The show ended when I was a high school senior and I rarely watched any TV as my time was spent on school, friends and sports. I never knew of problems on the show until now. I did know Robert was gay because it was reported on at his death and I was in such disbelief. He seemed so straight! But that's what an actor he was. I look at gay family and friends I have now and am so thankful we don't live in a time anymore where they feel they have to stay closeted and suppress their true selves.
Thank you for a great episode, Jordan. 😽
RIP Robert Reed. ❤
Wow, that was an amazing comment, I wish I could express myself as well as you did. I'm just happy you could be so consise and speak so thoughtfully as you did. Thank you for expressing what we all thought, you did an excellent job and it was a pleasure reading your thoughts.
@@johnhughes1783 Thank you for such a thoughtfully written response! Isn't it incredible what an impact the first 12 or so years of childhood experiences have on us? Such a short span of years in our lives and yet, the music we listened to, the TV we watched, the type of communities we lived in, our extended families; all left an indelible stamp on the overall fabric of our lives.
The fact that one other person on this thing called CZcams could relate to me over pieces of our childhood made my day. I suspect there are many of us out there, johnhughes! May life treat you kindly 😽

At the same time Robert was in the Brady Bunch, he had a reoccurring role in Mannix as a cop. In fact, the Brady Bunch living room was used in several episodes of Mannix.
Interesting! I never watched any Mannix
Robert played Lt. Adam Tobias
Yes! Did you ever see the Brady bunch stairs set on episodes of Mannix? I haven’t seen all the episodes but I did see one where that exact stair set from BB was on Mannix and I never forgot it. 😊
I just learned this myself a few days ago. Prime has Mannix. Think I’m going to check out Reed’s episodes.
.....LOOKING like I got SCOOPED about this.....LOL
Thank you so much for covering Robert Reed - his life, death, and legacy. This really was the kind of home life my friends and I all had growing up (except no divorces... At all!) We didn't realize quite how lucky we were. And now, it's a hokey time capsule - except that the episodes still hold up even today. It really is a good show.
Good morning Jordan 🌅 Robert Reed was a good actor he started in theaters doing Shakespeare, then he went into tv shows, he was in Ironside in one episode. Florence Henderson was born in Kentucky but raised in Indiana, I live in Louisville Kentucky lol. They gave Florence a framed Kentucky certificate for being from Kentucky. This was interesting to see and hear about Robert Reed, thanks for sharing this. Stay safe Jordan.😎📸👍
Sounds like he really struggled with interpersonal relationships. I wonder if that was a result of him being unhappy with his life. Poor guy- different times. It’s always sad when you hear someone didn’t find true love in their life.
I wish you hadn't said that last sentence.
I remember not being able to wait until Friday night so we could watch The Brady bunch a very big part of my life back then thanks so much for another awesome vlog!! You are the king 👑
Mr Reed was a blessing to Hollywood + society ♡♡♡
Greetings from San Jose California. Nice work Jordan this is the first video of yours Iv seen. Good job doing the story, now we all know a little bit more more a about Robert Reed. Looking forward to watching your other videos. Thanks for a interesting segment.
Jordan you always have awesome videos & I can always count on learning something new.....thank you! The Brady Bunch was one of my favorites....I binge watched all the seasons not long ago. It's nice to learn about the actors in my favorite shows.
Jordan, you always treat sensitive stories like this one with such respect. Great job as usual.
That was well told about Robert, Jordan! I too watched The Brady Bunch when I was a kid. Happy 300,000 subscribers!!
I had not heard alot of that info. I know he really loved the Brady kids and that he took them on that vacation. I wish you had gotten a close up of the rock on back of his headstone 🪦 It has the names of all the Brady kids. I don't know who made it, but it's very cute. It seems as though he was never truly happy. Hopefully he has found peace in the afterlife 🙏
Hi Jordan and Jah! Thanks for this video. I loved the Brady Bunch that was my era! We styled out clothing outfits and hair from that show. I always thought he was very handsome so sad his private life had so much heartbreak and he couldn't just be himself. It was a great show even if it was quirky!
One of my favorite tv dads as well. I want to visit his grave someday. He had such Blue sparkling eyes. He was so handsome. His daughter appeared on an episode of The Brady Bunch called The Slumber Caper. He also appeared on an episode of Father Knows Best called The Imposter.
Congratulations on reaching 300k subscribers! And thank you for all your vlogs❤️
He was an a actor. He played a good dad. He was inspirational example of talking to your kids not yelling. His private life so sad. He couldn’t be who he really was. But I don’t think he had a relationship. I think he may have liked the cruising lifestyle. Same with Paul Lynde. They must have been lonely not having a true love, but maybe they did, we just don’t know. But Raymond Burr and Roddy McDowell seemed to have a successful private life with their partners. Maybe because they didn’t have superstar status. So there were personal successes. It’s just sad they had to hide.
I didn't know that about Raymond Burr! I used to watch his shows all the time as a kid.
Again , another great job telling us the back story of one of our favorite childhood tv shows. Thank-you for sharing . Happy travels. See ya on the next one . 🥰
Jordan you did a wonderful job on Robert Reed video, I really enjoyed it and your story telling was excellent and it was so great to see Jah.

Looking at it now… The Brady Bunch really is a time capsule of life in the 1970s America! Such a cool time for fashion, music..
Great vlog as always! Congrats on 300k! You most Definitely deserve it! ~Love&Light♥️Carli
Thank you so much!!
This was a good one with so much information you found out. Sounds like a hard person to work with. My father figure growing up was Robert Young from Father Knows Best. I read he didn't have a great happy life either as did a couple of the kids on the show.
Forgot he was only 60 wow..I also remember one of the brady kid actors saying he bought all the kids movie cameras
Grew up with those Brady Kids watching them on TV. Still watch the reruns. When HGTV took the Dilling Street house in Studio City. Then turned it into the BRADY BUNCH HOUSE I thought that was COOL ! It would be cool to spend a weekend in that house with my brothers. We would take the iconic Family Photo of those Stairs. GREAT JOB, Jordan ! Loved this show and the actors. 😊
Very well done, Jordan. I hope that someone overseeing his estate can have someone repair his headstone someday.
Some great episodes lately, thanks Jordan ✌️
Just came accross your channel, i love The Brady Bunch, thank you for this.

Lovely memorial. TFS
he lived up the street from my house in pasadena. As a kid I would see him all the time at Trader Joes in South Pasadena. I always wanted to say hello but I was to shy.
If he only knew how much he is loved. We don’t care who you love. You are a good man.

His debut was on "Father Knows Best" as a young lawyer... came across the show yesterday.... what's weird is that it's not listed on the list of shows he's been on when you Google him... but if you Google the question of him on it, it does confirm that he was and that it was the first show he had ever been on as a younger man..

He was in other TV shows like the Love Boat, Hawaii Five-O, Charlie's Angels, and Wonder Woman, and it was hard for me to accept that, because he always Mr. Brady from the Brady Bunch to me! He was like a typecast.
