I'm not a huge Tom fan but this last song was about trying to be a better person despite whatever faults you have. It was a good message that went over your head as your too busy looking for ways to tear people down instead of being a productive member of society in any way. If he decides to take this direction with his music instead of political i'm all for it.

I went to high school with Tom and knew him early in his career. I wouldn’t put capitalizing on controversy past him but I can tell you that knowing him from 15 years old, the guy was the only person I’ve ever met who truly didn’t give a f*ck what anybody thought of him. He walked his own path and he didn’t give two sh*ts what anybody thought about what he was doing or where he was going. Keep in mind this is when we were teenagers and everyone is insecure as they’ll ever be. But he just waltzed around with an aura of pure certainty about who he was. I haven’t talked to him since he moved down south and I wouldn’t try and sit here and defend his music (I don’t even like most of it lol). BUT, the guy is authentically driven and was destined to blow up doing something. I knew even 20 years ago that he was not meant to live an average life. Dude has worked for all this, wanted it and probably earned it. Even if he kinda picked his spots along the way. I don’t know if he truly thinks the things he raps about but I can PROMISE you he would never be afraid to say it just like he is saying it now. I can get why people would call him a grifter considering the nature of his music (and how it’s not very aesthetically “good”) but he isn’t fake. If that somehow can make any sense. In his song “Sellout”, he says “I ain’t wearin’ diamonds, I ain’t lyin’ ‘bout my jewelry. Every chain is fake, and all that Gucci isn’t new to me. I bought it secondhand so I’d look cool in your computer screen”. He doesn’t say (in this song, anyway) that his clothes are fake. I dont know, I'm a fan but after a few years now, I can't help but notice that there's still one thing he has never touched. I went to high school with Tom and knew him early in his career. I wouldn’t put capitalizing on controversy past him but I can tell you that knowing him from 15 years old, the guy was the only person I’ve ever met who truly didn’t give a f*ck what anybody thought of him. He walked his own path and he didn’t give two sh*ts what anybody thought about what he was doing or where he was going. Keep in mind this is when we were teenagers and everyone is insecure as they’ll ever be. But he just waltzed around with an aura of pure certainty about who he was.
I haven’t talked to him since he moved down south and I wouldn’t try and sit here and defend his music (I don’t even like most of it lol).
BUT, the guy is authentically driven and was destined to blow up doing something. I knew even 20 years ago that he was not meant to live an average life. Dude has worked for all this, wanted it and probably earned it. Even if he kinda picked his spots along the way. I don’t know if he truly thinks the things he raps about but I can PROMISE you he would never be afraid to say it just like he is saying it now.
I can get why people would call him a grifter considering the nature of his music (and how it’s not very aesthetically “good”) but he isn’t fake. If that somehow can make any sense. I can basically vouch that he truly is an artist and always was. And the controversial kinda weird music he is making today is definitely art, for better or worse. 😂
