- The “Thousand Dollar Breakfast Club" is shocking servers across the U.S. with their acts of generosity. The club’s mission is to make one lucky server's day with a big tip that goes beyond 20 percent. "Everyone brings a hundred dollar bill and we tip our waiter or waitress at least a thousand dollars," says group member Richard Brooks. Boston waitress Sori Kola was tipped $2,050 by the generous group.

We got so little of it as a cook when tips like those happened. $200, and the waitress brought the $1,000. They care more about people handing food after they touch dirty dishes without washing their hands than the cooks and the hours we spend making it. You also have to report those tips for taxes.
He probably ended up with a portion. Most waiters have to split tips.

@thomasdacquisto she *definitely* will have to split it with her coworkers (host(ess), busser etc). I was a waitress in my 20’s and this is how it’s done, you always have to split the tip
@@srso4660 - Decades of experience in the restaurant/bar industry. I have NEVER worked at any establishment that forced the servers to share their tips. Split their tips with their busboys and bartenders who assist, yes, but never with other servers. Get real.

I actually just read something like that. A waitress got a $5000.00 tip and had to put it in the company pool. I was thinking wow. I would share my tip the way I wanted to not HAVE to give my whole tip to the company. Anyhow the tipper ended up taking the tip back because she had to do that.

If you got the money why not bless someone. I make less than 35k a year and still always tip at least 20% and once in a while I'll leave 30%. It feels good being generous.
I never tip. That's the responsibility of the restaurant owner to pay employees...not mine
Cuz I can invest in stocks and crypto instead and yield returns.
I can always spend extra money I would have on something. That may even be buying a house with 100% down payment.

Yes, I loved a generous tip in my former waitressing days, usually from smokers in the smoking section that was allowed at the time. If they got money to spend on smokes and booze, they certainly aren't worried about forking over another "few bucks" in my experience.

Yeah, but the recipients had to pay major taxes on that. If this lady is getting cash, she really doesn't have to claim it.
That's very generous of that group to do, although I believe it would better for them to divide the money among all the servers at the restaurant so they won't feel left out while just one gets a large amount.

Hopefully she shared the generosity she received and didn't keep it all for herself. I know we used to have to tip out busboys and bar staff, but cooks made full wages, as opposed to the rest of us, so there was no need to.
