Another tip, If going by yourself, let someone know where your going and when you expect to return.
Totally agree!
Any recommendations for budget sea fishing kayak? I'm looking for used ones. And what's the acceptable length and weight for a kayak to be considered good enough for sea fishing
If you're fishing in lakes with 10-15 ft depths, why would you need to tell someone?
If you drown in 10 feet of calm water?
You shouldn't be alive anyway.
You realize how many lakes are not real deep?
Now if you're in the great lakes? Or other major lakes?
Yeah, I agree with you.
But a typical lake with very little depth? Unless you can't swim, you should be just fine.
@@bradhuskers Just this year there have been 5 deaths at the lake in the other town. Each of them died in water that was less than 10 feet deep. All of them could swim its the fact it caught them by surprise, the weather, and the distance out. All of them died and were found 1 to 3 days later because nobody knew where they were.
@@kaylaa8092
I'm sorry.
They either couldn't swim, didn't have life jackets on, or were drunk or high.
But sober people who know how to swim, will not drown in a very calm and shallow lake. Understand?
Excellent advice!
I have a 2019 outback I went out a half dozen times last year and had a blast. I have a friend that bought a kayak and my son is interested. I always feel a little more comfortable when I go with someone and I learn something every time I go fishing. Great video bud !
Great video. Very professional and informative.
Thank you for sharing these tips. I have never owned a boat or kayak so everything is new to me but your video helped me to realize what the most important things are. I will be returning to your video several times before I actually get on the water for the first time.
Thanks, great video stressing the importance of planning and being prepared to make one's fishing experience a great one. Thanks again!
Excellent advice... good entry video to kayak fishing
Man your explanations were on point. I am researching right now and most kayak videos are for people that already know a lot about kayak fishing. They never think that some of us are new to this. So thank you!
Great information. Thanks for taking the time to share these tips.
Rodney Priester absolutely! Thank you for watching!
Very good video! Thanks for making it.
Great advice. Thank you.
Having purchased a brand new kayak I am just doing some research. It was on sale and will beat the heck out of the pontoon floats my buddy bought. I am trying to learn as much as I can and this video could have helped me with the Pontoons. Im looking for a watercourse program even though Ill be on flat water or the shallow rio grande. There are parts of the Rio that I would not put a boat in, but has some great bank fishing. Guess the guy sums it up, know your limits and plan for emergency's.
Great Video, thanks for the advice 🎣
Great tips
Very informative, thank you!
Awesome tips on kayak ownership. If you are new to kayaks or are thinking about getting one, this is a MUST WATCH video. Thanks TFF
YourNextCast appreciate that man, thank you so much!
Hey pal! 👊 Great video buddy!! I have not yaked in a loooooong time. I must say that documenting your beginning to advancement is gonna be huge!! 🤘 Keep it up my friend!
Just purchased my first kayak and these tips definitely helped. Great video!
What an amazing and informative video. Thank you
Scott LeCroy thank you!
Man appreciate it I love fishing and I’m killing it out there especially with this tips
Twitch_ Peso_ awesome man, glad to hear that!
Thank you so much I was looking so long for a good video and I finally found one thank you again
This is by far the best "tips"video on YT! I spent months doing nothing but looking at different kayaks, in the price range I could afford, then I spent countless hours watching every video I could find for ideas on what was considered important upgrades on a fishing yak. You sir covered them very well, what took me hours and months to figure out you did in 13 minutes. The only thing I would add is finding an anchor trolley and anchor that will keep you safe, where you want and in the right direction. Edit; your video was so good I had to sub just to see what else your channel has.
Thumbnail looks like Tom Hanks in a kayak. It’s uncanny!
"WILSON!!!! WWIIIIIILLLLLSOOOON!!!"
🤣🤣🤣
😀👍
Thats why I came to comments, to say the same thing lol
I've learned from cinema, to not hitch a ride on that kayak
Awww, that’s not nice. No Tom Yanks single glove love. Sick.
Thanks for the practical tips. Going to start fishing on my SOT this year.
Awesome, good luck and tight lines!
Really helpful video, about to get a hobie will take your advice!! 👊
As I am new to kayak fishing i find your channel extremely helpful..i appreciate you taking the time to help us rookies...thanks for the tips..information is always a great thing..thanks again for some valuable tips..
Thanks, great content.
As a kayak fisherman, I definitely agree with your advice
I think this is the best advice I have heard yet!!!
Great tips!
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You! Been fishing from a boat most of my life and now I want to try something new. Your video has helped me think about just the basics. Thank You!
You are very welcome. Thanks for watching!
Just bought a kayak after going out with a friend and a kayak fishing guide in Fla. last month. I learned a lot the first time out, primarily that I was still fit enough and athletic enough at age 62 to pull it off. We also caught fish which was icing on the cake. As far as being prepared to fish and land fish, I totally agree. In my case I found that it is an easier for a walk and wade fisherman to transition to kayak fishing since they are used to carrying and having on their person what is needed to fish, and they are even able to land fish, re-tie leaders, change lures, etc. without having to set their rod down. Your video reminded me to think things out before heading out the first time on my own. Nice job. Very helpful. Thanks.
Bill Cunningham glad you liked the video! Keep up on the kayaking and let me know your thoughts after a few trips.
Thank you that was very helpful.
Thanks for the tips!
I’m 61 years old , just got my first kayak, nothing fancy . You give good advise on PFD . I’ve used self inflation type for years in my power boat . Very comfortable. Thanks for info . Set the hook brother
Super like it!
After 1 year kayaking, I would add to the video: (1) one more important think and (2) mention the advantages of kayak over motorboat.
(1) get an emergency bag on the kayak. To me, this bag should contain flashlight, raincoat, knife, rope, dry clothing, map or GPS system of the place, and a secure method of communication. Forecast fail sometimes, winds blow, and the way back may not be obvious sometimes.
Now, the advantages of kayak to me are:
(1) it is silent and you sometimes get very exciting strikes just by the kayak, because you don't disturb the natural behavior of the fishes, (2) you can easily navigate in the middle of structures and shallow weather, (3) you can go alone, and (4) it is ecological.
Thanks for the vid. Very helpful!
MN Pesca very true, I will probably revisit the kayak tips in about 6 months.
I would add a kayak repair kit with something like FlexSeal tape or some other kind of waterproof tape, screw drivers, a Crescent wrench, Allen keys, a hack saw blade, some steel or stainless wire, and of course some duct tape.
@@pedrowhack-a-mole6786 True. I already needed to fix my pedal when I was out fishing. Lucky me I had Allen keys. Thanks for this add.
Lighter and gun** first and foremost for this Everglades yaker
They can get into small places and are low to the water I have got 6 Lewers while at my local river
Great video! Thanks so much. I have been fly fishing for 4 seasons now and just bought a second-hand Pelican 120.
Nicole Lewis nice, congrats!
Good one. I’ve been kayak fishing for awhile but, like you alluded to, learned on my own by trial and error. Your post is very helpful especially as it relates to your transport set up. Thanks!
Great video. I agree with most of what u said. I felt the same way as I got started. Been at it a couple years, still feel like a noob a lot of the time :)
Awesome, very useful info!!
I've watched a bunch of videos on beginning kayak fishing, and yours is the first I've seen that talked about a way to get your kayak from the vehicle to the water. So, you're absolutely right, and good looking out.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it and thank you for watching!
Great video! they really help when you are a beginner, and can help speed up things. Just like the man says you got to get out and getter done!
Very informative! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you!
Good info for sure. Buying my first kayak soon and this helps cut through all of the chaff.
Great video, it really did help. Thanks
No Guarantees no problem, thank you for watching!

fantastic premise for a video. hit the nail on the head for what I. and probably a lot of people were needing.
Thank you!
Thank you for sharing such great tips! Looking in to my buying my very first kayak sometime this year hopefully soon. All the information helps 👍
Fishing4Fun glad to hear that. Thank you for watching!
Agree with the cart system. Have talked to guys who repair kayaks and they all say avoid the scupper hole types. I think they look cool but I spent a little more on a collapsible large wheeled type and dont regret it.
Thanks for the great advice!
You are so welcome!
Great video thanks!
Surf Barbie thank you!
Great information thanks. Looking to give it a try a I am a little hesitant so I have watched quite a few CZcams videos. Definitely appreciate how this whole kayak community seems to be willing to help newcomers and grow the sport. Thanks
Thanks! Great video. Hoping to buy my first yak this summer. Certain aspects like organization seem kind of daunting so I'm glad you threw that in. Im not a little guy so digging in a box behind me ain't gonna happen.
Thank you for the guide! Very informative.
Thank you, I appreciate it!
solid advice
i am just about to start sea kayaking so this video helped a bunch . Thanks very much . Baz , UK
Awesome video great information. Just starting to look at kayaks for fishing and this is invaluable insight. Cheers.

Great video
Gus Cardenas thank you!
Thanks for the info! Good vid!
Thank you! Glad you liked it!
Great videos bro, glad to see your subs going up!
Me too, slowly moving up. Thanks for the support.
These are all great tips for beginners. I just got my first fishing/hunting boat, an Ascend H10, and am looking forward to fishing out of it. However, as an experienced ocean kayaker (I can screw roll a loaded 17 foot expedition kayak), first thing I'd highly recommend is, spend the extra money on a really GOOD paddle! Get one that fits your position in the boat, feels comfy in your hands, and you really like. After all, it's your motor. Werners, Bending Branches, and a few other brands are great (I use a Werner Camano on my ocean boat). And get one you really like the looks of, you'll want to show it off as it flashes in and out of the water! Take the time to learn to paddle properly, how to use it to maneuver your boat, and how to control it in a headwind, and you'll really love kayaking!
Awesome video! Just got a kayak for fishing. I had one as a kid that I'd use a ton, so I'm stoked to get back into it. I've been researching what I'll need to be ready and most sources just talk accessories and paddling techniques. This is the kind of stuff I've been looking for! The real important stuff! Thank you! And subscribed!
Robert Peel thank you so much! Glad it helped!
Awesome tips man
Rolo Reyes thank you!
Thank you for this awesome video these are questions I would eventually would’ve asked you made a video seems like just for me I do greatly appreciate it thank you
Hope these last 3 years have seen growth in your journey. Some solid advice. Been doing it 20 years or so and have witnessed such growth in the industry. On number 2, By going out with others you can get an idea of how others have set themselves up before buying stuff you may never use. And there is the safety aspect of it should you dump or turtle. Great video.
excellent video. I just purchased myself an old town sportsman with lots of add-ons 3 days ago. have taken it out twice already and im loving it. definitely see useful tips for me :)
Really good info for beginners 👏👍
Joy Steward thank you!
Great advise I totally agree with them 5 things but living in Australia and we mainly fish the ocean here as we don’t have rivers and marshes and my number 1 thing is the guardian shark shield it’s an absolute must here in Australian waters I have a PA14 and have had couple encounters with great whites so I don’t go in the ocean with out my shark shield and yes they definitely work
Great tips. I recently got a kayak as well and have gone out once. A lot of videos don’t mention these tips that are really helpful.
Eric Reyes thanks for watching. I’ve only been out a few times now, it’s definitely getting easier.
I have been kayak fishing for maybe 2 years.. One tip I would like to add to people who may read comments, a tip I received from my buddy who practically lives for kayak fishing " a little exaggerated lol" is you don't always have to buy hobies or natives to go out and learn kayak fishing but you want a "Fishing Kayak that you can stand on".. if you can't stand on it, odds are it's not very stable. When I first started, I bought a Vibe. It was a paddle kayak. It was just enough for me to really decide if I wanted to continue in a hobby of kayak fishing. Obviously I fell in love with kayak fishing and after a year I purchased my new 2020 Hobie Compass. Kayak fishing is a whole nother world compared to fishing from a boat but starting out with a cheaper kayak could avoid a big investment that you end up selling or keeping in a garage to collect dust. Vibes are very stable and comfortable. Lots of space.. good for fishing. There is a difference between kayaks and fishing kayaks.. but I wanna say thank you too Texas fishing force. Video was from experience and I enjoyed the simplicity in your 5 points. I look forward to following your channel.
Great tip for sure! Thank you!
Thank you for this. I am going from a 20ft Triton bass boat to a 13.6 kayak. On top of that, I have a reason for that.... A serious spinal cord injury. I can't stand on the trolling motor pedal anymore. This has been the best comprehensive video I've seen. And trust me, I've watched many. Great job.
likensrus thank you, I’ve had my share of boats and I really enjoy the kayak.
@@TexasFishingForce thank you
Great video. All the stuff you wish you had known. Thanks.
Awesome tips man, I’m looking on getting my first kayak 👍🏻
Fercho Fishing you definitely should!
So many great tips that most people wouldn't think about before taking it out. That cart system you showed on your kayak was really cool! Great video 😃👍
Jeff's Wife Kristie thank you, it is very handy.
Just about to get into kayak fishing, great video thanks for the information.
Any time!
Great video on beginner tips
Thank you!
Great video, man!
Glad you liked it!
Thanks for the 5 tips it really helped me going next week to bye my first kayak
8660445 congrats and good luck! Thank you for watching!
HI there. You are right. I have watched heaps of videos about Kayak fishing and your tips are not mentioned much. You are the only one that has put all 5 together. Thanks for some sensible advice from NZ.
Thank you so much!
Awesome bud, that was my first thing, you’ll really like the boonedox landing gear, makes it so simple.
Salt Addict I love it so far!
Awesome tips man, I grab my new yak on Friday, thanks for the heads up!
Good luck! Thanks for the support!
Thanks for the tips I just got my first kayak and have been looking at you tube for advice and yours was the exact think I was lookin for 👍
Glad to hear that. Thank you for watching.
Dude....You are spot on with this information....I bought a cheap dolly. came with a flat tire and broke the first day....Invest in a good one...drill holes in the kayak and be self sufficient on the water....Cheers Jeff
Thanks for the tips. You are correct about the wheel systems being way over priced. I made my own landing gear for my cheap kayak and I am loving it. I cant even imagine dropping that kind of money on something I dont even know anything about yet. Good thing prices are starting to drop on some of these better quality yaks.
$3,000 'Yak + $250 Wheel Kit, what's the problem? Banks just LOVE people like us! Haha!
(Banks DO give out low interest loans. Mine is at 5.62%, and that's a LOT better than putting it on the Credit Card!)
Good about this kayaks, is the features =P
Thanks for the information. Just order my first fishing kayak today.
Ronnie Kotler congrats!
Good advice just got my first fishing kayak and am going for my first test this evening. Season is still closed so I'm planning to get some experience in with my kayak before the season starts and I'm trying to figure out my kayak while trying to fish. Definitely not new to paddling and have been canoe fishing since I was 13 and kayaking for 6 years but there are still definitely some different I expect to come up.
thanks for making this video!
in_ct _outdoors absolutely! Thank you for checking it out!
Thanks Man.
Very informative for me as I am about to purchase my first entry level kayak.
Good video and tips. Thanks 4 Sharing. Aloha🌴🎣🦃🚣🏻♀️
Thank you!
"What Happens On The Mile Stays On The Mile"
Good Vid
Killer vid thanks bro!
Thank you!
good video thanks for the tips
Jason Linkey thank you man!
I’d say start off small when you first start as in what you bring. just so you can get used to moving around/standing in the kayak, landing fish, and fighting fish
