EPIC OR Sacrilegious?! Electric LS SWAP Crate motors & 450hp EV Chevrolet C10 E10 truck

- We caught up with Russ from GM's Performance Racing Development Team at SEMA 2019 to have a chat about this stunning E10.
Using two complete drivelines from the Bolt EV, With over 450hp and torque for days, this 6000lbs truck can do the 0-60 sprint in around 5 seconds flat.
What is more interesting though is the fact that Chevrolet are creating modular crate motors to bolt in place of any LS engine, straight up to your existing 4L60E transmission. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
Yes please, more of this with better execution so the bed is useful.
Id like to see more parts for ev trucks converstions
You must be rich.
I need this BIG battery in my Tahoe hybrid So i can get more RANGE out of the EV mode
50MPG please
@@nickd920 why does he need to be rich? First off he just said he'd like to see more ev parts not purchase them but if he does mean purchase that doesn't mean he is rich, the parts have come way down in cost and if you do a proper ROI on a Gas v. EV you quickly find the extra cost of the EV parts get absorbed into the large fuel savings and help balance out the cost of the build. For instance I'm my case I commute approximately 300 miles per day 20 to 24 days per month and get 28mpg in my car I get a reimbursement of .585 cents so if I dont pay the fuel cost of $800-960 month then I get to pocket all of the $4,212 reimbursement per month so you tell me would I need to be rich to want to save that money or is it just a smart investment that could save me thousands of dollars in the long term or in my case even the short term saving a large. The only thing that is holding me back from these conversions is the charge to distance equation, I don't have a static destination and sometimes my commute will exceed the 300 mile mark so if I use all my battery capacity and get stuck needing to charge up then I would get caught up in the return traffic jam and this could turn a 2.5hr commute into up to 6 hours on a holiday weekend and 4.5hr on a basic Friday. My family time is very important to me so losing this time due to a simple charging mishap is the main reason I have not converted and am looking more towards a Hybrid v. EV at this time. What I really would love is a Hybrid with a classic body now that would be the dream right there. Sorry for the long post.
@@timwegman5776 How much do parts cost and then the labor? Thats what I mean and not to mention for the vehicle itself. Parts and labor combined for a Tesla, it costs nearly $16,000 to replace this Tesla Model 3’s battery pack. It takes money for that changeover. Might as well just buy a brand Bolt EV then.
It’s a step forward in the progression of building hot rods for us. I will always love the sound of a V8 engine.
You can install speakers and play the noise... Vroom 🎶
Once Tesla’s new tabless battery becomes available electric crate motors will become much more viable
Really a beautiful build
Beautiful truck but 3 square feet of storage in the bed pretty useless.
Yeah. Tesla swapping with the battery as the bed floor would work a lot better IMO
A truck like that would never have anything in the bed anyway.
Yes I completely agree however I do believe in this scenario they have done this to reach the goal they have for the distance they need to drive daily for whatever challenge they are referring to in the video. They speak of having to drive 250 miles per day, however I do think that's an excessive size for just 250 miles. Maybe the batteries could be mounted under the bed but you would think the engineers would of done that if it was possible
If GM would just put out the 69 Camaro body with hybrid powertrain and AWD, it would make a killing
I would prefer an electric motor transaxle device because I want a Frunk.
Crate power systems for EV's are a great idea :)
Great build looks smart 💪⚡❤
lol it was cool until I realized the batteries were in the bed. that negates the purpose of it being a truck. The batteries have to come out of the bed. Place some upfront and the rest over the truck bed and have them open up like french doors so that you can store things in the bed of the truck. They will be partly structural as a bed cover. but also give you the versatility to store tall things in the bed if you open them up. I understand that this is just a concept to show that the bolt powertrain can work in a truck though. It would be really nice if they made a kit for the Prius to go full electric.
I'm legit debating on doing this to my 60 c10 when it gets released to the public, if its somewhat affordable
Way to go GM! What a great way to leap ahead of tesla and cater to American enthusiasts. Keep it coming....
Except elon just bought GM
Having something like this available in a crate format opens all sorts of opportunities for people who want to go this route. Battery range and charge times will improve as demand drives innovation.
Master piece
Batteries need to be in former fuel tank locations. In front of or behind rear axle housing.
@Dani Hope yeah, my 1962 f100 had gas tank behind the seat. Not a safe location but there is plenty of room between the frame rails. It also lowers the center of gravity, better handling.
Talked to the guys manning the GM crate engine display at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale 2020 and asked about the electric crate project since they did not have one on display (they did last year). Their answer was "not going to happen," which is really sad.
Wow, disappointing and short sighted. To be fair, they really arent leading the way in electric anyway with their foolish partnership with Nikola
Massive fan of this, Leaves more fuel for me!
Remember it's all about what you grew up with, I don't care about steam engines because of that reason.
I'm in my mid 20's and love internal combustion engine.
Maybe when I have kids they will love building electric cars, There are much worse hobbies to have!
@@darcy4744 I'm mid 30s and was 100% against it... But I've come to the realization that I want to have a clean planet for my daughter. I still love ice but I won't buy another ice personally
I want this truck so bad. So beautiful, unique, and electric. Please continue this electric create motor thing. I have a 2013 k1500 and want to swap electric when the motor goes.
Nice
did they give any infomation on the price tag?
Epic
I'm all for electric conversions of classics, I love my 1977 Camaro, but it's expensive driving it as much as I want to as well trying to keep up with it's maintenance. I will eventually switch it over to ev.
So this package will only work with a long bed truck
Gm just put a dedicated Rumble pack in the truck that is tied to the motors rpm and is mechanicaly tuned to produce acoustic sound
I kinda want one
I can go without the fake engine noises but this has so much potential
I have owned over 30 c10s and Apache's over my short stint on planet earth, and currently own two 65 c10s , a long and a short bed and I think that I speak for all die hard enthusiasts, this is a kick in the ballls
Were did you get the bowtie from? I got a 1967 chevy c10 and trying to buy me one for it
I have a 71 Chevy pick up who would I be able to contact to get this electric application for my truck?
Tim Scroggins very happy
Cost
Why not solar panels to help with range?
Can you buy this motor ?
When he said the audio of an LS7 will be played inside cabin... smh
Unsure if in cabin or outside..Maybe both like many cars already do?
That's gross, and embarrassing.
No different than dating a girl with make up on...
or like vegen/ vegetarian food who
look like real meat.
smel like real meat.
try taste like real meat
but not real meat
Agreed, kinda defeats the purpose.
Having owned a 1967 C10 and swapped the 327 out for a 455 Olds, you can count me out on electric engine swaps.
So You Can Put Some Of This Stuff Into The Bolt EV? Anyway Nice Video Mate!
When is this coming! Just take my money
I have 1998 k2500 350ci vortec gas I want make it ev to tow my 5th wheel 12,000lbs how to make it work ? And how much money will it cost 🤔
I'd do this to my 77 car but not my truck since I will still use it for towing. I doubt those batteries will last while towing.
Want for my rhd trans am!
How much?i have this same truck would like a project like this.
What year is this c10?
@@RareMade 62
I have a 1986 truck and live in California want to go electric
YES! ITS PERFECT< NOW a kit for C3 Corvettes and Sign me up! Dennis in Virginia
I’d drop this in my NBS Silverado
Very nice would fit well in a HJ ute with a powerglide.
😇😇😇😇😈😈😈😈
where to buy the whole kit ?
power density for batteries is making improvements but it's just not there yet. to sacrifice the bed entirely for battery space --IN A LONGBED, no less, isn't really worth it to me. there's a lot of potential here, i'd love to do my 90's suburban in EV, even for 150-200 mile range, as long as it doesn't cost me 50k to do.
Not sacrilegious since its made by chevy themselves
I need something that can tow. That bed is useless. cyber truck i go...
Um it's a classic truck. Why would you tow stuff with it?
Noting I consider ls swaps on vehicles worth interest i would rather put this is something less valuble like a chevette to make it an eco friendly nimble hatchback. BUT THAT THING IS BITCHIN'
Why!
cos eventually it might be the only "tuner" option we have.
Epic, but the bed needs to usable.
I doubt people are going to use a classic truck for hauling stuff.
@@newbeginning9112 Would like the option to do so.
@@veganrican606 them get a cybertruck or a Hummer
@@newbeginning9112 I like the Cyber truck, it looks cool.
@@veganrican606 same
First....and im calling the police
its cool but that bed is wasted smh might as well not even have a truck
hopefully batteries get a more reasonable size. That being said, how many show quality trucks you see have a functional bed?
@@StreetFXofficial true but personally i dont see the point of these sorts of trucks
@@Isaac-zz2uv then they aren't for you. They are more art than utilitarian pickup trucks.
@@StreetFXofficial why not put the batteries between the frame under the bed 🤷🏾♂️you know where the gas tank and exhaust would be? Problem solved.
@@gadgetmanhookup you have a good point and I've been thinking about that same question, I think it's because that would be too easy and then General Motors would have to make all the trucks that way which is more expensive for them then just having Us by our gas every time we need it.
This is fantastic step. Anything that gets us closer to weening off the rancid teets of fossil fuel. Although I would prefer the battery under the bed, and maybe a 69-70.
"Caddletruck"
More Hyundai stuff please.
There will be more soon, of the next level of modification of ours :)
Open season for someone to create a 50's or 60's EV gasser. 1400hp or higher. Use a loud audio app. Its suicide right? Make me proud!
So it’s not a truck anymore
😕
It's a show truck not a work truck
It's an experiment. As battery tech improves, the functionality will improve.
We don't have the grid anyway 🤔 better focus on clean nuclear first and upgrade the countries grid
Awesome truck minus dumb extra sounds.
Love to see one piston engine gas or diesel do full horsepower and torque at 0 rpm like a electric motor can lol
BLASHPHEMY!
They just had to slap one of those glowing bowties on the gorgeous notch side chevy 🤦♂️
5th wheel guy want ev want is gm idea to make this happen
Technology isn't good enough for everyone to go ev yet.. 12 hrs of charge to go 250 miles.. if everyone does go ev than every charging station would be full and dead battery cars would be seating everywhere waiting
Cool but not cool enough
Hats don't suit u buddy
A sound track of engine noise ? How gay
Destroyed
iif i cant hear a classic american car driving down the road im out.
Bye grandpa.
Beautiful truck, stupid idea for an hot rod
No thanks to electric
made a cool truck useless for anything but show! I'll stay with gas so I can haul something in the bed. Thanks but no thanks.
So, with the bed filled with batteries, it's completely useless as a truck. Great waste of time GM.
Fail Fail Fail GM .......run the batteries under the car
How to waste the space of the trunk, make the truck super heavy, and to waste time charging.
Just by a LS Crate Engine people...
Chevy has been alot of bull shit since 97
Useless.
