Iran attacked Israel as a response to the assassination of a very high ranking officer in Syria. They planned attacks on Israel from there.

Only 1, and I really mean 1, actually managed to hit a military base in Israel. Even that was a failure as the damage there was vary small and to something unimportant (I believe a road?), so the base operated as usual like nothing happened.
With that being said, missile debris hit a 7 year old Bedouin girl and injured her badly. She survived, but just barely. This is the most damage they inflicted.
The sad part is that Iran considers this attack a success, while in reality they got humiliated. I have no idea how Iran considers injuring a little girl as revenge for assassinating an officer.

christmas island is on the southern hemisphere. Local summer there is in december, the busiest time for santa Claus. Although it is close enough t the equator that there is probably not much difference between winter and summer temperature, so more likely a rainy and dry season kind of place.
