#Ford #F150 #Lightning - Auta a dopravní prostředky
You have got to love the way Kyle reviews EVs. Other reviewers will touch on the basics but nobody analyzes these vehicles with the same level of competence and attention to details that he does. I’m a big fan!
I believe Kyle is America's Bjorn Nyland. His depth of EV experience is unsurpassed in America.
The only problem is never a problem. Come on real review. If you push truck to charging station big problem. If charges slower than Tesla super station make sure let us know if doing 8 hour trip need to know how long sitting at charger please do not only point out cool stuff make sure tell biggest thing 70 mile test should be at least 600 miles and how long charging. Most people really want to know how much time spent at chargers. We know they fast quiet.
I agree, complete and great reviews. But maybe just 2 RedBulls before he starts the reviews. I'm in a recliner for this ride and he's bla bla bla so fast!!!
This was a fantastic video! I work at Ford and have actually been working in REVC (where the Lightning is built) for the last couple weeks, and seeing these trucks being built is so cool. I currently have a Lariat PowerBoost and have my reservation in for the Lightning. We also have a MachE on order for my wife which will replace her Focus Electric (which has been very good to us, even if it isn't the most robust EV ever made). I hope Ford brings a lot of the driveline improvements you noted to the MachE quickly as the segment is so competitive that you can't wait the usual five year vehicle refresh cycle to make these improvements.
Anyway, as to your closer, your videos are super helpful and always my favorite to watch. In instances like the F-150 where most everyone knows the exterior and interior, you managed to make an over 1 hour video that covered things almost nobody else has and it was perfect. Great work, as always!
Plenty of people review the surface stuff, your deep dive details are fantastic and what us nerds really want! Kudos
he reviewed nothing, he did a test drive, drive more than 300miles and not plan for an Echarge station, HAHA
This is the review I've been waiting for. OOS is the only video review thus far that's actually given me information I didn't already know about the Lightning. Thanks Kyle!
Definitely echo others here: Kyle's style of reviewing is unique and is SO worth the time to watch the video. Really useful information that you wont get in other reviewer videos and who doesnt love that the "kid in the candy store" look and smile that Kyle has when he is driving something that appears to be THAT good. Great job and thanks!
Best dang real-time commentary on the web - Thank you Kyle for your excellent insights. Betcha the people of San Antonio are still talking about "Mr. Hot Wheels", tires squealin' all around town in a Ford F-150 Lightning! As electric trucks go, you and the Ford have made quite an impression! Coming up next . . . the Future.
This dudes reviews are top notch. Knows the ins and outs of the EV domain, vehicle dynamics domain, software domain, and even the basic mechnical domain stuff like friction braking vs regen braking, blending, etc. As an engineer who works in automotive it's refreshing to see a journalist cover topics and go beyond the cookie cutter crap like the other 99% are covering.
true , he really has a good grasp of what hes saying.
I actually LOL’d at the V6 ram comment LOL
The Dodge “telling the world he bought the base one” 😂
i spit my drink out on that line....
LMAO 🤣
as a Mach-E owner there's one thing that I'm immediately jealous about! the power meter and the temperature gauges! why can't we have that even if it's only in unbridled?!!
Great review - you convinced me to get the max tow package added to my order even though I don't plan to tow. That thermal management is so much better than our Mach-e GT
It's on 80k lol. Sucker!
Thank you so much. I've been waiting for YOUR review of this truck for a while now because the information and description of your experience is precisely what an end user needs to know about the vehicle. Hands down the best review on this vehilce I've seen and I've seen so many.
"He just told the world he bought a base one"... made me LOL!!!
“Allegedly,” that word had me laughing. Great video.
This is the Lightning review I needed today. Thanks for putting in the work!
Been waiting for this. your first few minutes have already suggested its the best video Today (and not a generic overview).
No doubt. Strange how many EV channels I follow and YT didn't start recommending this one until the rivian roll out. It's clear #1 channel to me now
Just wanted to take a moment to touch on your closing comment. Yes I for one appreciate the length and breadth of information included in your videos, they aren't heavily edited and seem more genuine than quick plugs from others that seem either forced or paid for.
I would totally buy one of these (as a Tesla model 3 owner and order holder for Model Y and Cybertruck). 2 problems for me:
1. You can't even order one right now
2. You get the pleasure of a dealer (sarcasm intended).
So happy to see this. Our F150 Lariat is twelve years old and still an amazing vehicle. I can't even justify replacing it.....but.....electric is compelling. I doubt we'll even see wide availability for a couple of years and that might just work out! Thanks for your practical, thorough reviews.
I would prefer to wait for Heat pump equipped variant .. Its a shame that those idiot engineers from Ford cant just change some valves as all cars has the compressor which can be reversed and used as a heat pump. morons.
I drive an F150 5.0 and really like this classic truck style. That being said Ford needs to put lots of money/energy into software and engineering. Rivian just built it's first vehicle EVER and RJ explained they put larger motors in the back because you can't apply the same force to the front without slipping. It's subtle engineering decisions like this that Ford needs to correct. Ford also needs to make changes faster than the automotive industry has done in the past. Software fixes should happen in weeks/months not years. Design changes, like the motors, should happen in 2023, not 2030. Thank you Kyle for the precise and nerdy reviews!
The rivian does not have larger motors in the rear. All 4 are the same motor, there is a different gear ratio from the front to rear though
@@brandonkylemarks thanks! I misunderstood. Sounds like an even simpler change for Ford
@@ZacharySchulz you may have heard right, but RJ would have been talking about future iterations. They source their motors from Bosch right now so there's an incentive to keep everything the same. They plan on manufacturing their own in a few years and its possible they'll do bigger motor on the rear once it's in-house.
Can't wait to see a cross country trip with the lightning!!!!
I like your reviews because they are sorta like Bjorn style, pretty exhaustive. No shallow boring all praise sale's push nonsense. Thank you!
@23:32 Laughed out loud at the comment about the Dodge V6. Kyle's has quite an ear, and TOTALLY burned the guy so effortlessly :-)
The best car reviews on the net. Thank you, Kyle!
Lesson learned- Get the max tow package even if not planning to tow often. Great review!
I really enjoy your reviews. They are detailed and you speak to a lot of what us consumers are actually interested in! Other reviewers should definitely follow your lead and change the way they review EVs.
I've watched a lot of these videos on the Lightning. Yours is def the best.
Well done and thank you!
This is my exact spec! Awesome video, Kyle.
I had an F350 for work for a couple years, and I agree with the statement about having trouble keeping the rear wheels on the ground over bumps. I found it really slowed me down on rural dirt roads where I ended up driving significantly slower than I otherwise would have just because the rear end kept skittering around. I'm glad the lightning does not have that issue. Otherwise, I actually loved that truck, despite it being the most stripped down version you could find. So I really feel like the lightning might be in my future.
I would buy one tomorrow if I could. A real bummer that they are sold out for so long. As a Mach E owner though I can see some familiar nags that the F150 will have. After owning a few Teslas the charge port door being manual is surprisingly annoying. The prong that sticks out is the same on the F150 it appears which is pretty easy to break. I have already had to buy an entire assembly just for that part on the Mach E. The door could also overextend on the Mach E damaging the quarter panel.
We also were bit by the 12V battery drain bug on the Mach E 6 months after it was widely reported. Ford didn't push any over the air update to fix it. It was a major pain to deal with and involved removing panels and jumping the battery. We ended up having to take to the dealer for them to push a fix in less than an hour. Ford has more work to do in this area for sure.
Lastly, it looks like Ford has been hearing people about the infotainment, it looked quicker than on our Mach E. It can be annoyingly slow.
It’s amazing after the Mustang learning curve on brake pedal calibration that you would’ve thought they would’ve nailed this one. Great advice on the extra cooling loop with extended towing package. 💯
And you would think after all of the years Tesla would have nailed its build quality. Either or my friend.
You absolutely killed this review! Nice job.
Kyle, you did an awesome job. Love your videos and this sold me. I know wish I had put in my pre-order.
Kyle is the best. Nobody does the homework like he does and it shows in all his videos.
These 1hr videos are killing me man... I only can watch a short part of it.
Really starting to love these videos from Kyle. The way he goes super in depth and is very thorough in his reviews is totally awesome!
Nice job, thanks! Tom and Kyle’s reviews are the absolute best. They are truly pushing their fellow journalists to improve the EV knowledge.
Great video as always! Love how happy you always look when you review these cars and how honest you are. Keep up the great work!!!!
Thanks Kyle! As always you gave the information we want and left out the fluff!
The RV industry is huge, millions enjoy camping trips far from home. Losing 60% of range when towing and only able to recharge up to 80% further reducing range, now down to 100-120 miles of range. Finally reaching destination and now without a vehicle since it needs to recharge. EV pickup trucks are great for some but quite useless for many.
Absolutely perfect trim to review. Majority of reservations are for well equipped lariat at 65-70k.
Hmmm, the Lariat they gave Kyle was 80k, I wonder what the majority of reservations don't have that this truck had.
@@cbenson513 Kyle definitely had the extended range. A comparably equipped standard range Lariat will come in right around the low $70K mark.
@@jimresig3145 Thanks, that's probably it. I just spec'd one out and it came to $81k, but was also extended range.
Waiting for the range test. Want to see what range a standard version gets with and without load
LOL, when he first opened the door my brain produced a psuedo new car smell in my skull.. Just call me Pavlov.
Kyle: I'm not sure why the keep mentioning its fast, that's not what I'm looking for.
Also Kyle: drives aggressively and has fun.
Moral: it may not be what you want, but it is what you need.
When an F150 Lightning pulls up to charge and its being ICE'd by an F150, or another truck for that matter, there's going to be a major paradigm shift.
That's what the Max Tow package is for 😁
@@alejandropmorcate I would love to see that. Or a Lightning cruise where they all park blocking every gas pump.
Awesome review video! Completely comprehensive down to the fine details and nerdy stuff. Well worth every minute it took to watch. I can't wait to get behind the wheel of one someday!
Kyle, great to see you in my neck of the woods! You were driving about 12 miles from my home and I recognized the route you took, which is beautiful but a LONG way from the EA station,. It is not the most convenient, but there's only 1 EA station in a metro of nearly 3.5 million people which is really ridiculous! They need to up their game. As you probably noticed, in San Antonio an F150 is probably every 4th vehicle on the road, so I'm sure you got a lot of attention. Hope to see you in my area again soon!
Great video. Been waiting a long time to see it and confirms a lot of stuff I was hoping to expect out of my lightning.
I can't wait for mine. I don't expect the same charging rate as my Taycan, but it's good to know that the F-150 is a charging beast. Thanks Kyle!
Your gonna have some cool toys!
I may be old, but 80K is outrageous.
“That Dodge Ram” -points to an F150- 😂 great video as always!
Great review Kyle. Thank you
Glad to see you got your hands on it. Looking forward to watching it.
49%-79% in 20 minutes, or ~100 miles of range added in 20 minutes. Can’t wait to see the full 0-100 test.
I love this truck and really want one! I've learned so much from your channel and really appreciate these reviews and your ability to teach the tech stuff to a person who new nothing about electric vehicles. Thank you
1:12:12 - Great news to hear that Plug And Charge now works
Thanks for teaching us about the 150 Lightening EV.
Reserved the lightning on the evening of May 20, 2021, within the hour reservations opened.
I was recently informed I was #27 of 165 reservation at my local Ford dealership. For 2022 model year, they have been allocated 2..... only 2 F-150 lightnings (regardless of trim/ options) from Ford. At this rate I'll get my truck in 10years...ish
Looks like a great effort by Ford here. I've got a R1T preorder and will keep it given the offroad goodies/features, suspension, and sportier, composed driving experience on road. Seems it might be a better choice for recreation, mountain roads, etc. while the F150 maybe less fun, but offers more work utility. Two very good, but distinctly different trucks. Looking forward to full review!
Same I canceled my f150 reservation and getting a Rivian. It's just more pleasant on the interior too. Very unique.
Very well done. Love the nerdy stuff, one of my favorite auto reviews to date. Excited to see one of these in person.
Luv the review ! Your like a kid at Christmas , so excited !! I lived the commentary as well . I’m waiting on my Model Y LR to be built in Texas but if I could get similar range in F150 >>>>. Thanks for all you do
Outstanding content...Well done, thank you!
Well done Kyle, I so respect your opinion. This clearly is my dream truck now!
Excellent, sensible review sharing understandable experience and relevant expectations. Well done, Kyle
amazing truck. $80k - $35k savings in gas and maintenance = $45k ICE equivalent. How much do people spend on ICE trucks today? I'd still go with the Tesla Cybertruck for $69k for 500 miles and tri-motor or quad motor. Cybertruck can also seat 6 instead of 5. I like that this truck comes with a spare tire.
An ICE F-150 with the similar content and capabilities of this truck is probably a bit more than $45K. I also doubt whether Tesla will deliver a Cybertruck for $70K by the time they hit the market. I have a 2018 S LR and big Tesla fan, but like the more traditional look of this effort. I don't like the big Kindle stuck in the middle of the dash on either.
no way those cybertruck prices are going to hold. my bet is 10K more than originally advertised
My hybrid F150 was 67k. Cybertruck is ugly and tesla interiors suck. I looked at many options as I already have another truck and the hybrid f150 was easily the nicest ride and interior. Tesla has a long way to go and the hill just got a lot steeper with the lightning bringing what it does.
Very informative channel. The best I have found for information on EVs
Excellent overall truck that will go a long way to increasing the acceptance of EVs all across the country.
Its gonna do much more than that
Excellent info Kyle. Keep up the great work. You were in my neck of the woods.
Man I love that open, glass cabin. So nice. Ford is going to do gangbusters with this truck. Price point is excellent.
Great review. Pretty much same spec that I ordered. Max towing is definitely worth it, was only an additional $825. Hope Ford starts delivering these soon.
"V6 by the way so he's just telling the world he bought the base one" 🤣🤣🤣 23:35
Thanks for the review my friend.
You reviewed the exact spec and color I ordered! Build date May 23! Woo! Thanks for the in-depth review!
Lol oh Electrify America “plug and charge”. Great video dude, LOVED IT.
AWESOMENESS. Thanks Kyle.
Thank you so much for this review we have owned two F-150s a 2010 Lariat and we have a 2016 King Ranch .I own a 21 Model Y and had a 15 Model S.My husband loves my Evs he sat and watched about an hour of this with me.We are impressed especially with the ride and the lack of noise coming from the Lightning. It looks really like a great alternative for us.We own many other vehicles like a 66 Mustang,a 65 Galaxie 500 convertible , a 2000 BMW M roadster , several Triumphs Mgs and Austin healeys we are car nuts. Will be watching for your towing videos as we have two boats we haul to Charleston and Garden City SC curious to see how much range is lost in the hauling/towing mode.Loved this review!
The purple fashion light in the A-pillar at the left is the IR LED for illuminating the driver’s face for the Driver Monitoring System. It sees through glasses and look at the eyes and where the driver is looking. The camera is elsewhere as is a second LED.
Best Lightning video yet.
Kyle had a truckgasm.
Love it! Good job Kyle.
Excellent review Kyle. $88K for the Lariat is a bit stiff for me. I’m also not a fan of the front light bar across the top. I have spec a base model (with the tow package at your recommendation) the step up tailgate, spray on liner and big power package for about $46K. Much more palatable for me.
EV Maverick should be great, smaller, cheaper and better looking
Quit saying that x customer won't do this with this truck. Yes we will and we want to know. I love F-150s, I have two in my driveway for different purposes (older small reg cab hunting rig, and bigger family trailer hauler) and they get used. Off road, on road, driven hard and spirited, driven calmly with the kids in the back, they do literally everything. We're not talking about a BEV town car golf cart that are fun toys to save money, these are trucks and they get used as such. With better charging infrastructure, these trucks are starting to get realistic for doing the things we do with our trucks. Right now, it won't comfortably do the week long off grid hunting trips hours from charging, the ice fishing trips 150 miles from the nearest DCFC station, the cross state boat towing trips.... but it's getting there.
It has a big bed that you can throw a generator in lol
Great review, so thorough. Would love to see a deep dive review of the XLT screen menu.
missed opportunity to say "ride the lightning" there
Thanks for the video thanks for all the good information
I am a real fan of EVs and I am excited about the F150 Lightning. I have watch several reviews on this truck, but your review takes it to a whole new level. The info you shared confirms that I will be ordering one in the near future. Thank you for a comprehensive review.
It would be cool if you had an out takes section where people come up to you and engage with you and make a video on that; bet you might get some views for that
Ive got 10 pros w/toying package coming for my solar company. Super excited
Re watching your f150 now that all the electric trucks have entered the market!
It is so freaking cool seeing you in my hometown of San Antonio driving the Ford F-150 lightning. Wish I could have been there to ride with you just to see how much it has changed there because I have not been there in years. Hope you had fun and truck did well.😊👍🙏
Had mine for a week, and love it. Hate the one pedal driving. Also Noticed that on sport mode, there is more coasting regen than in standard mode - a little too much. Would actually like the ability to adjust the amount of regen when coasting separately. My Niro offered this and it was nice to really tune the amount of regen to your liking.
At the 55 Minute Mark I am here for the Charging. Yeah baby! Yeah!
That brake roll back into friction braking is going to cause some trouble I reckon.
Great review!! Thanks
Love the Nerdy stuff Kyle! GREAT review!
great review…thank you!
this thing hauls serious ass through those corners way better than I expected damn!
Was waiting for your review on the charging and range . Hope you get to do more of it .
Wh is everyone calling it a Frunk, when it should be called a Fred. It’s the Front Bed.
am only half way through this video but agree with others. As an early reservationist (9am day after announcement) I know all the basics but his attentiont to detail is what I'm interested in. Can't wait to get mine, but looking like later this year for a 2023 model
