    Always always always try to remember to take out the fill plug before you remove the drain plug. I'll just leave this here for whoever understands why that's the best idea 💡

    Great video, but let me add one tip. Filling the differantial until the oil comes out of the fill hole will cause fluid loss via the breather tube according to the user manual. Apparently the diff case volume is larger than the oil volume required, so a better way is to measure to amount of oil used by referring to the oil container volume scales.

    I used a 13/16 socket to remove the drain fill plug on our 2002 Yamaha kodiak. If oil is below the brim of the filler hole, add sufficient oil. Use recommended oil. 16ft pounds to torque rear drain bolt or 23Nm. Final gear case cover bolt is 16NM or 11ft-lbs. per manual provided to me.
    Front cover bolt torque is 23Nm or 16ft-lbs. the drain bolt for the front is 10Nm or 7ft-lbs.

    💥👍 Yeah you're able to see that Allen bolt okay.
    sometimes I find by adding another tube to the tube on the bottle and makes it easier to pump the oil out of it for what it's worth God bless,
    Ken

    How far up did you fill the rear diff? All the way?

  • @patrickthomas6170
    @patrickthomas6170 Před 3 lety

    Skid plates are only 4 screws front and rear plates and you get to clean them, 13/16” socket fits front fill plug nice. Can u please tell me if the rear diff has a drain,fill, and a check plug for the level? Thank u!

    Hey Mike ! Have you done the middle drive gear oil seal replacement ???

    • @bikermike
      @bikermike  Před 6 lety

      Damian Pantoni no, I haven’t replaced any seals on it yet. Everything appears to be in very very good shape! What seal exactly are you talking about? Front or rear axle? Your talking drive shafts going into differentials?

    • @damianpantoni9623
      @damianpantoni9623 Před 6 lety

      biker mike , yes , specifically the rear drive shaft as it comes out of the motor, I have a non IRS Kodiak 450.....I've done seals and bearings for front and rear diff, pain In the butt, lol, but now I have a leak at the oils seal behind the boot that covers the universal joint, at first I thought it was diff fluid, I'm using amsoil and it has a very peculiar smell, so it's definitely motor oil ......I just don't know if I need to take apart the universal seal or will that whole drive shaft yank out .....I know at least I'll have to remove whole swing arm........

      @bikermike  Před 6 lety

      Sorry I cant advise as I've never done that. Try and locate a good service manual or just ask the Yamaha dealer how they do it. They'll likely give you the advise if you buy the parts from them.

    • @bikermike
      @bikermike  Před 6 lety

      It seems like a pretty good machine so far, not very quick but its just a small a utility quad. About 50mph.

      I have a 2008 Kodiak 450 (1 year older than model in video) When it was brand new, I had it up to 93km/h on a dirt road. Just went for top speed this week; 13 years later, (and in need of a good tune up) I got it up to 86km/h on a paved road. And that’s with some heavy duty swamp tires on it. I’m still happy with it.
