    Ever since I switched to the Line 6 Helix, this has always been a hot topic in the Helix community...is the TimeLine BETTER than the Helix?
    I went through and did an A/B test on every delay engine on the TimeLine...I really hope this video shows the flexibility of the Delays in the Line 6 Helix!

    Haha, I totally agree 😂 Most delays basically sound the same. Only real difference is the amount of modulation the various companies put in and the specific parameters they let you alter. The only real tonal difference comes from the AD/DA conversion

    Hi!!! Great video. For what I notice is that both do the job... ok? But how is that strymon is more obvious than helix? When you play digital delay i can hear the juice of the Effect with strymon. And when you switch to the helix i only hear the beat but there's lack of the juice strymon has. It's very different the result. Do you think this can be fixed by increasing the mix amount of the effect in the helix?. In my opinion helix sounds "empty" or weak... strymon sounds juicy, fuller, deeper but i'm not sure it sounds organic or warm/natural. Just louder, more present and cleaner. Some users say strymon is too too too too clean to pretend warm natural effects. What do you think guys?

    Great video. I have a question about your Strat style vintage. What model is it and is it a short scale? It seems so short in your hands. People ask me the same question because I'm 6' 4" so every guitar seems small when I'm holding them.

    • @ChadoFax
      @ChadoFax  Před 5 lety

      Hey man! Thanks so much! It’s a V6 Thomas Blug signature strat. And no, it’s not short scale. I just have massive hands. It’s got a huge neck on it. So it feels great in my hand. You should check them out!

  • @CoolBreezeMusic7
    @CoolBreezeMusic7 Před 4 lety +4

    You sound great, BUT I can't continue watching this because the Timeline is running through the FX Loop of the Helix if I heard you correctly... which, to me, defeats the purpose of the comparison when it's adding additional layers of A/D conversion (it's my understanding that Helix FX loops are not in the analog domain, correct me if I'm wrong on that) . I was hoping to hear Timeline on its own against the Helix on its own. I appreciate your videos, so thank you, but the above is a big issue for me.

    Is the digital delay always ping pong and bounce around like that is there anyway you can use a stereo digital delay without being a ping pong today because I definitely don't always want that you know

    • @ChadoFax
      @ChadoFax  Před 4 lety

      I am pretty sure I’m using the stock cabs in the videos and for my presets that are for sale, I use the stock cabs. But I personally use the celestion IRs of a Marshall 4x12 greenbacks. That one and OwnHammer IR of a bogner 2x12 with Celestion gold speakers.

  • @jay2xtremefy

    Helix got tons of variations plus you can stack delays but the timeline has got the quality.

  • @jakeyboy2929
    @jakeyboy2929 Před 5 lety

    Is all the amp tones coming from the helix as well? I have a kemper but I’m strapped for cash and may have to sell so the helix would be my replacement

    • @ChadoFax
      @ChadoFax  Před 5 lety +1

      All amp tones are coming from the Helix. Being able to run two different amps and cabs or two amps into a stereo cab or one amp into two cabs for sure gives the helix a little heads up on the Kemper. Those are awesome at what they do. But I really enjoy the flexibility and being able to do some pretty crazy routing and midi configurations with the Helix. Let me know if you get one and we can set up a Skype lesson to jump start you if you’d like.

  • @peichmen
    @peichmen Před 4 lety +1

    I have both and in my ears the delay is not the point. I feel the root of the sound, the scence of my guitar tone change in the Helix. I miss something of the basic sound of the guitar. With my Timeline NO. The Helix is a great tool but that Strymon is the ONE for me.

  • @chriskindler7625
    @chriskindler7625 Před rokem +1

    The Line6 delays are very, very good. As is their Reverbs.
    BUT
    Strymon just has that certain something, and the interface is dead-easy. (AS IS THE HELIX)
    I'm still searching for that special delay sound in the Helix, but with the 3.5 firmware and on, the Dynamic Hall is an AMAZING OPTION for ambient goodness with a 12.4-second decay and 31-36% mix (depending on what's feeding it!!!)
    I use Helix live now, but in the studio, I'm not sure!! (there's something about being able to do it all in one unit that is so fascinating!!

    • @ChadoFax
      @ChadoFax  Před rokem +1

      Chris, I think we’re all looking for that special delay sound! Haha I do it all the time on CZcams. You’re not alone in the search my friend. Strymon just came out with an amazing new ambient pedal you should go check out! I know I’m looking at it for sure. I’d have to use like 3 blocks on the helix to get what this thing does.

  • @leoetine

    I need your help and advice...should I replace my rig with the Helix? I need some intelligent feedback with hard evidence I can see and hear. Tell me, Helix or my rig? (Mine: www.dropbox.com/sh/y1em21nejp0j3c0/AAB2MXUVAJJc8VeYD3-V8_zea?dl=0) -I'm being real by the way. I love my setup but it's big, heavy, and I can't move pedals around one before the other, etc., by the touch of a button. I have to take crap apart and re-do my switcher, etc. Lots of pros to switching but sure, we all slobber at the quality of some of these pedals.

  • @tochiromifune419

    Depending on the type of delay the Timeline is either better or equal to the Helix. What amp did you choose?

    • @ChadoFax
      @ChadoFax  Před 5 lety +2

      I almost agree with you. The Timeline is a Delay only focused unit. So yes, you can dial in delays a little more. BUT the Helix can offer WAY more options for delay engines (35 different delay types, the Timeline only has 12). But to your point a delay specific unit like the Timeline for SURE has an advantage over the Helix. But at the end of the day, if it sounds good, it IS good! For the amps in this Video I used two Helix amps and cabs. A Matchstick channel 1 (Matchless DC30), and a Placater Clean (Friedman BE-100Clean channel). Man, thank you so much for watching!

    • @robdiaz3282
      @robdiaz3282 Před 5 lety

      Hey Chad...I love the Matchless/Friedman amp patch you have dialed in...what cabs are you using? And which overdrive are you using?

    • @ChadoFax
      @ChadoFax  Před 5 lety

      Rob Diaz I typically lean more towards closed back cabs. Greenback25s with sm7, then I’ll have to check what the other one is. It’s a 1x12 (I think). Easiest thing is just grab one of the presets. 😀

    • @robdiaz3282
      @robdiaz3282 Před 5 lety

      @@ChadoFax Thanks Chad...I've got a few 2x12 closed back cab IR's from Celestion (G12H and G12M Creambacks if I remember correctly) that I'll try. I would definitely get one of your presets in a heartbeat, but I have the HX Stomp...I unfortunately can't use the presets from the floor unit.

    • @ChadoFax
      @ChadoFax  Před 5 lety

      Rob Diaz oh gotcha! I’m looking at doing some stomp presets here in the coming weeks. That’s a great piece of gear! I love the Celestion stuff, there’s something about the closed back cabs that keep the low end “correct” (to my ears) in the digital world.

  • @SteffeLindmanMedia
    @SteffeLindmanMedia Před 5 lety +1

    I think the timeline is a slightly warmer to my ears, but that is easy to match in the Helix.

    • @ChadoFax
      @ChadoFax  Před 5 lety +3

      For sure, but with the Flexibility of the Helix, you can dial in the "warmth" no problem. I love the TimeLine and all its dial-ability. I just like having all the options from the Helix more.

    • @jamesross-smith8358
      @jamesross-smith8358 Před 5 lety

      Chad Carouthers
      What would recommend as an approach for adding warmth in the helix?

    • @ChadoFax
      @ChadoFax  Před 5 lety +8

      James Ross-Smith there are a few things to do to add “warmth” to the Helix.
      First: Digital platforms are normally way more “bright” by default. On the cab block try rolling the high cut down to around 10-12k. That helps shave off the “ice pick” highs.
      Second: mic choice. Try the ribbon mics. I find they are normally a little darker/warmer than dynamic mics. Also, I love the SM7. It’s a dynamic with a good high end roll off for guitars.
      Third: closed back cab models. In the real world open back cabs breath better, and to me aren’t too muddy. But digitally it’s a different story. Try an EL84 style amp (Vox, Matchstick, dr Z) into a 4x12 green back cab. It helps keep the lowend tight and intact.
      Fourth: tell your sound guy to help by boosting around 500hz (3-5db). This is the “cabinet” frequency. Also low pass down to around 12-15k.
      Hope this helps! Also, hit me up for a lesson about all this stuff and more if you’d like. Helixlessons@gmail.com later!

  • @phladjki
    @phladjki Před 3 lety

    tape delay: the stymon 100% has this washier dreamier thing going on - which I think sounds cheesy
    analog: same thing in a way
    the helix has a slightly lower-fi but more “realistic” sound. The strymon sounds like the guitar is being played by angels. cheesy angels.
