- The Dynamic Range Priority setting (DRP) in Fujifilm cameras is an amazing tool to help your camera produce photographs with much more dynamic range. It's a different tool to the Dynamic Range mode and in this Fujifilm tutorial I show you how it works, with example images.

"Try it out" - Good advice Chris - so much learning through experimenting when it doesn't matter to get a good shot when it does matter.
Very good info! Thanks
Nice tutorial!
Good one Chris
Top man Chris
Delighted to have found your site..what an inspirational website..Tk u
Thank you!!
Thank My friend 💚👌👌
Interesting, thanks. I’ll try this for thunderstorm photography, which is my hobby, in order to reduce the light excess from the lightnings, and get more details in them. Do you think it should work ?
Yeah, great idea! I’m sure it will work well
Enjoying your comments and advice Chris, especially when you've got the x-t1 in your hand. What lens is that you have on it?
TTArtisan 35mm 0.95
Can this make it peel off the classic “sunset with vivid mossy rocks/heather in the foreground” shot without being too obviously hdr i wonder.
I haven’t had too much success with the dedicated hdr drive mode where it blends 3 shots in camera - my first efforts have come out a bit overexposed but also a bit flat. Continuing to enjoy the experimentation however which is what it’s all about!
Nice tutorial… helped me to remove confusion. But i think its the same as photometry . So can you plz explain whats the difference between the two . And its also confusing between exposure bracketing, HDR, d range priority, photometry!! Are they essentially the same
Hi Chris, thank you for the video! 🙏🏼 Is there any downside in using DRP?
Not really - it’s just the increase of noise levels, but with the newer Fujifilm cameras that’s not really an issue
Thie tutorial was very helpful. Does this benefit raw files also?
Yep, the photos I showed in the tutorial were RAW files.
I have been using the dr-p recently. however when I inport photos into LR, the raw file shows as origional mode. Is there an way to show dr-p result directly in LR?
It looks like it is just applying highlights and shadows, which could be done later in Lightroom more judiciously. Good question below, is it just for jpegs?
I guess it saves editing for those who don’t like to edit their photos after. Those were RAW files
I'm curious what this setting does for Astrophotography.
Do not have thi sub-menu on my x-t1.
In manual mode ?
Aperture priority is fine.
Sorry another question ..regarding flash unit for an X E1.....can you recommend a decent one ..for on and off camera..
why cant i set D RANGE PRIORITY to STRONG?
ISO has to be set to 640. Anything lower than 640 and you will not be able to use STRONG in D RANGE PRIORITY.
I just made a quick test, I confirm that
1) there is a difference in the raw files (not only jpegs)
2) there is a general degradation due to noise in the black/shadows, and a loss of details, because of the brightening" of the shadows baked into the files.
3) I compared two files shot at iso 640, with/wihout DRP set to "strong". So the degradation from the higher iso needed, from 160 to 640, has to be added for a comparison between a standard shot at 160 and a DRP at 640.
I have to make more tests in daylight landscapes with my XT30, but I find that the HDR mode of my modest Olympus Pen, which blend shots in camera to a RAW file, gives me far better results !
Yep, my tests in the video were with RAW files, so can confirm that too.
