- Sidecarcross is Insane and I'm about to go for a ride with one of the worlds best sidecar racers...wish me luck! We'll also test my fastest lap against the hot lap of a professional sidecar crew. What on earth have I signed up for?
I've tried my hand at most dirt bike disciplines whether it'd be trials, enduro or motocross, but I've never before set foot in a sidecar chair, so I think it's time to put that right! FIM World Sidecarcross Grand Prix Racer Dan Foden was the perfect man to take me for a spin and top tier passenger Jim Kinge was the best coach I could ask for. It's safe to say that I've got a whole new level of respect for sidecarcross racers now....

Wanted to do side car Speedway in my early adults years, but the sport fell flat here. Side car Motocross is a totally different beast. Now that you have shown how taxing co rider is, respect bro.💯💪💥
As in Speedway Sidecar Racing do you mean Dirt Flat Track Sidecar Racing I've seen that before my uncle Chuck use to race Flat Track Sidecar Racing he passed down one of his old sidecars down to me a few years ago a buddy of mine and I built a Flat Track Sidecar Bike To share in our shop it sits in the shop for people to see

I rode as a passenger once (and i ride motocross), i also was completely exhausted after a few laps, about the same speed you were doing. I also have mad respect for anyone who could do that 30+ min
I am a solo fan but grew up with sidecars being at most scrambles back in the day, and as a school boy was in a club that had a sidecar class, this is by far best video you have done, nice one.

@@cedhome7945 mine is a 1985 eml jumbo, they took the maico 500 as base and put 2 of them together. So its a 2x 500 aircooled monster

Love this video!! Used to race as a passenger in British Championships.Started off spannering for a brother team in world championships. Yes the rider controls the speed, but the passenger is the one to stears the bike! As said the driver has more chance without a passenger, than with a bad passenger. Depending on which side your sidecar is on, without the right passenger, open the throttle the bike goes one way, shut the throttle it goes the other way. As a passenger fitness is your biggest asset

Great to see a sidecar video. I was always under the impression that they taped the boots up because the tracks tend to berm up not rut up and it was to stop the dirt going inside of their boots. But now I know.
Totally enjoyed it Max, MX is physical and demanding, but I bet you've got pain in muscles you didn't know you had, top marks for giving it you're best as usual.

My sponsor when I was racing was a old boy called Chris cook who was a passenger sidecar champ in amca back in the day and he taught me how to dance with the bike .. but more than that he was a hard ass man , and sidecar x was why he was hat way … he could ride too would keep up with me on practice days when he was in his sixties … mad respect…. I never got on a outfit with him by the way

Rode chair in the '90's, WASP 1000 twin shock - then moved to the US. (Live near Unadilla) Miss it so much. Glad you mentioned that the comradery of sidecar teams. I was the fittest ever when I started - but looked like laundry on a line. Technique/timing is everything.

When I raced A grade motocross, I got to ride my mates sidecar and have a turn as the passenger, he and his brother were national champs and I only lasted two laps riding and passenger. I truly believe sidecar motocross is the most physically demanding sport in the world.

That's what the riders do for the 24hour trial north of Adelaide, South Australia. This coming event in July is the 100th anniversary.
That sounds absolutely mental ! 3 laps was hard enough :)
I'll be entering my first 24hr this year as a passenger, I'm super nervous but excited. The tracks are rough & through creeks etc It's going to be brutal but will be a life long memory.
As an American, this is the first I’ve ever heard of dirt sidecars, wild to think it doesn’t exist at all in my area

Love this video - Been a fan for ages and thought the Megladon build was cool (I have a KTM EXC Rolling Chassis and Zabel I keep thinking about putting together but time and money prohibit it!) - Just about to start my 31st year as a Passenger - Great to see the sport getting some recognition. Dan and Jim are top guys, looking forward to seeing how they get on in 2024 in their respective teams.

Many years ago when Wildtracks was just plain Chippenham circuit, I did a lap or two on my mates Rotax enduro outfit. I was riding a bit but nothing special. After one lap of trying a bit, I couldn't hold on any more and my legs were quivering with the strain. my mates were doing 4 hour enduros on the thing! I had a bit more respect after that!
I've seen side car stuff on the Isle Of Man on the pavement not the dirt. That is sick!!!!!!! Kudos to you I would never attempt it.😂🤣😅

people I knew had a Norton wasp outfit, fully chrome hand-built frame with a Comanndo 920cc engine, it was a power monster, rip it open and turn the bars and it would straight line with power being laid down, it propelled the thing forward and ignored you wanting it to turn,

Had a couple of friends in the 80s that had these tools and they where number plated on the road in Bristol .! A ride across town was a hoot in my 20s but not now with the traffic and cameras 🤞
We have road registered ones in Australia, we race them in enduro road trials. Part dirt tracks parts on main roads, it's epic. If you look up south Australian reliability trials on CZcams you will see it.

This one gets a 10, Max. Back in 1980 I saw the sidecars race at the March pre-race for the 500 GP's. This was just outside of Liege, Belgium. 10 bikes and their monkeys started out and 6 teams went to the hospital. But what excitement to watch the rooster tail fling 30-40 feet in the air. The mx bikes had 4 foot high berms in the corners, and the sidecars levelled them in their race's. The bikes they rode were Triumph, BSA, Norton and a 750 Honda. Harry Everts won the pre-GP.

I got an offer to swing years ago and said yes as long as my missus agreed, and found out it was a sidecar and said no bloody way!
Maybe already suggested, but it would be great for you to come to the U.S and give our style of Class C flat track a go. I’d like to see your impression of riding 1/2 mile and 1 mile ovals on either a 450 single or 750 twin.

definitely it´s dangerous, my list: femoral neck fracture, broken wrist, broken ribs, blown out knee and several long time knock outs on the track inclusive free helcopter rides to the hospital.

@@999lazer It´s all about experiance, not only I know how fast you can go if you have a good passanger, i also know how slow someone have to ride when i´m the passenger.
I also know our Laptimes which were round about 2 minutes on an average track which was more or less 5 seconds slower than GP Teams like Bax, Hendricks or Willemsen did when we raced in German Championship.
so it was no suprice to me.
once we were at a sidcar training i got told, i have to experiance what i do to my femal passenger and took a stand in the sidecar of the european amateur champion.
first round is nothing else but fear and sweat.
@@999lazer you also should try to ride a sidecar as a pilot with an experianced passenger, it´s a whole different way to ride a bike but so much fun, at least, it´s way less exhausting than beeing the passenger.
If you ever be in Germany feel invited, i still have two ready to race sidecars here, an EML Zabel and a VMC Husaberg so you have the choise between 2 and 4 stroke or to compare each other.
Btw I also have the posibility to ride on a former GP Racetrack.

most of them are 2 stroke.. Here in the netherlands this sport is huge, i grew up with it. They almost all use the 700cc 2 stroke engine

time to test a mth or zabel 700 against that slow stroke!!
Nothing in it (and I love a Zabel) - The new 4 Stroke engines are super competitive (after a lot of work to take them from 450 to 660) - I've ridden both and the power delivery of the 4-stroke I found easier as a passenger, although at the time I think 2-Strokes just had the edge on performance but this was 14 years ago. The 4-Stroke tuning has come on a long way since then hence why many top crews are switching. Dan (with Ryan) beat everybody at the sidecarcross des nations in both his heats including the 5x world champ and current world champ at the end of last season. Can't wait to see what they do this year :-)
How much faster? A fair few pizzas, some Kfcs plus plenty of pie and chips.
