It's not monotonous if you just listen to all the stuff he does with his left hand. Damn he is just dancing on the snare. That's how it should be like. Jojo IS the most technically advanced drummer (alive) on this planet, you can't really say else. I'm quite sure no-one else can do what jojo does with his hands, especially the left one. His feet tehcnique is also pretty cool.
That fill at 4:27 BLOWS MY MIND. Too bad the hi hat stand pretty much was no help to him. But it's a testament to his skill as a player that he could still keep on top of such a crazy beat while continually trying to fix it!
Remember that he is playing a very tiny set, it's the Sonor Jungle Set with a 16" Bassdrum (he probably didn't have time to tune it), and it is just recorded with a basic video camera from top, so don't expect to hear the low frequencies ;-) I think this jam was also rather spontaneuos, just to demonstrate some new products of Sabian. Indeed there is no comparison to a live performance!
