- When Barcelona came to Los Angeles to play during the time that Ronaldinho was considered the best in the world, Kobe Bryant met his good friend Ronaldinho. In the story told Bryant tells, speaking in Spanish, the Brazilian said to the basketball star:
“Hey, Kobe, I’m going to introduce you to the guy who’s going to be the greatest player of all time”.
“Wait, what?”, answered a baffled Bryant, “But you are the best”.
“No, no”, insisted Ronaldinho, “this kid right here is going to be the best”.
“And that guy was Lionel Messi, who was just 17”.

Just admited how magical Ronaldinho is. Even Kobe said "You're the best player in the world" but he so sure to tell Kobe that Messi will be the greatest player in the future & then it really happen.
stats wise messi is one of the greatest in history no doubt, but essence wise was ronaldinho by far, because he allways played football/soccer as if he was a child playing on the neighborhood field with his friends, just magic and passion, messi learned a lot in that aspect and also brought insane moves and handles, but his game was much more clean and professional sort to speak.
Ronaldinho wasn't wrong in what he told kobe and while he is also a super humble guy i think he just never trully dimensioned nor understood what he represented for the sport to all those who got to see him play in the 90s-00s, there are many other great players that can be somewhat compared to messi in one way or the other, but i don't think there's anyone else neither now nor in the history of football that can resemble the way ronaldinho played (even great players from his own country like ronaldo, kaká, pele, amongst many others still can't compare).

@@thebreathlessman3710 oh i totally agree with you, and don't get me wrong that doesn't make neither of them worse than the other nor i'm trying to take anything away from messi's greatness; it's just all players through out history (or at least the vast majority) have allways aimed to be like messi, like cr7, like pirlo, francescolli and what not, because it suits the professional football, but the unique street style of ronaldinho on that professional level of football i feel like was way more appealing to any child or youngster who saw him play; i think that's where the main difference resides (at least for me) when trying to pick one or the other as "the greatest".
Messi is a better team player he plays better with chemistry but as a single player on the field ronaldinho is better and world cups attest to that

Football is a unique sport, Michael Jordan can get more than 50 points each game to keep the team winning, Muhammad Ali can win every fight through his personal skill and experience. But no one can ever say “he 100% will score today” before a football game. That makes football special. So I don’t think 1 world cup, 2 world cup can prove or deny Messi is the greatest player in the world.
