The fact that I already felt stress for her about the second person coming in while still making the first drink lmao
When things back up at my engineering job I just get in that mind set of the most stressful job I’ve had in my life, Dunkin Donuts morning rush.
I worked at a coffee shop in a book store and would stress out about the one hour I was alone while the other person on shift with me went on a dinner break...on a mostly quiet week day night. I definitely couldn't handle this!!
You get used to it, don't get panicked lol
@@Angel1810 Haha, I wish...because in the 2 years I worked there, I never did! ;)
@Benjamin Joseph The line was really never more than 3 people (because I worked a week day night at a bookstore), and most were cool, but it was just my personality to get panicked haha.
This reminds me of those restaurant games where the customer coming in non stop.
thats my usual day as fucking sushi cook. nonstop orders from 10am to midnight.
Except that's what happens in real life.
lol yeah
That's what I thought too and customers get angry and go out of the shop..lol
Yeah they should put Donkey Kong music in the background 😭
I don't know why... but I find it fascinating to watch her manage all this. I don't think I could do it. I would spill a lot of stuff and get orders wrong and get fired.
When person 5 and 6 walked in, I started to feel panicky, lmao.
I think it´s just a matter of getting used to
Routine..it becomes automatic I'm sure. Just like any job. You'd be surprised what Humans can do.
repetition makes it possible. She's good at it thou
You just need to breathe in those moments. You’re only human, take it one person at a time
as a barista, one of the most biggest pet peeves is when i’m making drinks/steaming milk, and the customer is just aggressively staring the WHOLE TIME. like you cannot see me pour because i’m behind an espresso machine so all you can see is my head
Haha.. They just can't wait to get that good stuff from you!
i really loved that! They were so mesmerised about the procces of steaming, and when i started to pour they were like woooooooooow :O :D.
Every Bar let it be a bartender bar or a barista bar is a stage.... you are the actor, and the showman/woman, you have to entertrain and work with the perfecrtly balanced flow, so the costumer will enjoy seeing oyu work, cuz it makes them fell good, that there is someone who does a hard job really fast, precize and even have human contact, small talk, laughs, maybe help with direcitons, recommendation etc.. thats why i love it! Thats also why i left it :D sometimes had top work without any lunch break and after the 3rd day without proper food during the day i said fck this :D
I realized one day that I did that and I tried to stop. But to be honest..in a large iced drink...a lot of them forget it's three shots. So that's the reason I stare at them when I do.
maybe consider that a barista is the only person one is allowed to watch, so if one has anxiety about open spaces or a new coffee shop or interacting with anyone, doing the thing you're supposed to do, like staring at your order is the better option.
It's because to the average person there's something "magical" about specialty coffee making. If you look at most starbucks, the machines are faced away from the customers. It's partly to cover up that they're super-automatics and it's just basically button-pushing. However, it's also to discourage the customer from staring, asking questions, demanding corrections or chatting up the barista. All of that slows down the line and means less money for $bucks. In independent coffee shops with ultra nice machines, they want to show off the process, the machines and the craftsmanship, and the baristas are often encouraged to be friendly with customers.
Noone searched for this, but everyone watched it still.

Facts
watching videos about steak before this
Every barista knows the panic when you're by yourself and you see 2-3 people walk in and you're already behind a few drinks 🥴
there is no need to panic in my prime time as a barista I served 6-8 people by myself in the city of london...
know the feeling. not as a barista but i used to make pizzas and when i had 5 or 6 people order multiple pizzas each... i also had to put some wood in the pizza oven and make the pizzas. sometimes by myself although most times i had someone help with making them. whenever i had time id cut all the things so everything was ready for when customers walked in ahah

The amount of stress I felt from watching her first six customers is unreal.
Don't know why they don't hire another person. So some people don't walk out

@@him4671 just before the end of the video her second staff member turned up. That's only like 15-20 mins alone. I'd say that's commonplace for a small business
@@picnic4 Cmon, how is this a rush though. 6-7 people in the span of 20 mins. In the takeaway I work at theres at least 10 phone call orders and 10 front of house orders coming in at the same time. And that’s within 20 minutes. In one hour stuff is even more mad. Rushes last 2-3 hours and it’s non stop.
I can't even serve 3 customers in Overcooked
Big props not only being able to manage all of this but more importantly:
Acknowledging each customer with a cheerful greeting not matter how busy you are
Thanking each customer when they get their drink
Hope each customer that comes to you realizes how great of a barista they have (and tip you well!)
lol maybe 1/1000 customers would tip. It would be weird tipping a barista in Australia and I imagine even the barista would find it a little awkward
@@farahabdulahi474 can somewhat agree but in this case, seeing that she is working alone and still treating every customer with a smile and being efficient deserves that little bit extra I think. In a Starbucks where there is always multiple people working etc is a different story.
@@farahabdulahi474 agreed, there was a dude (American I guess?) Who always insisted on giving every server a gold coin. Accidentally put so many coins in the washer cuz no one else does that here and I'd Always forget to remove his coin from my pockets
@@farahabdulahi474 tbh i tip great baristas quite frequently, especially if I know I'll be going past there again in future. Being a barista is an accessible trade, but there are so many levels to it. You could make it 2/1000 and make their day/week
Yeah here in Australia we don’t tip unless the server is incredible. So tipping would be a bit odd

I feel like youtube recommending this to me was a huge sign... I had an awful stressful day at work today. My cafe does food as well as coffee and I was training a new hire. It was just me and them for the last four hours of the shift (not very busy like this video) and I was really really struggling. Have you considered moving the cups so they are easier to reach? I think it's worth the effort to make frequent tasks easy. Consider a cup dispenser so you can get a cup with 1 hand and 0 attention. Also, can you get a clicky Sharpie? It's fancy but you don't need to take the extra motion to post or cap the pen. In high-end electronics assembly factories, we design the work flow so the operator can use both hands without needing to look at each thing. Anyway, it's enjoyable to watch you work. Somehow it's all very positive...

The smaller mom and pa coffee shops are great to work at. You're supporting a local business, they give back to the community and they're typically more lax on dress codes. Was able to wear heavy metal tshirts and shorts. Starbucks pays pretty good, has insurance some kind of college degree program I hear is wonderful. Good luck and have fun! :)
Starbucks knock off? Was it really a knock off or just a coffee shop? Because coffee was before Starbucks..and so were lattes.
For some reason, I really enjoyed just sitting back and watching this lady breeze through her routine. Albeit that I'm a level one barista(with no current work experience) I'm well aware of how seemingly difficult it would be to take orders and work the machine. I’m a barmaid and this is so relatable, I had quite a rush last week while I was working alone, the bar almost fills up. It’s pretty satisfying when you manage to multitask everything and get people their drinks but so stressful when you get stuck on something and people start waiting too long

Ahahah me too :D
My anxiety went through the roof simply by seeing her making all this stuff while people watched and waited for her even though she was handling it so well!! :‘)
It is so interesting to see how a barista works from this point of view! To me it feels like a barista making coffee is like a form of art or something 😍
This is why it’s so important to be nice to people and to have your order ready before approaching. I’ve never been a barista but I can imagine the wrench it throws in their busy rush when people just stand there and hold up the line!
I'm a complete novice to this level of coffee consumption (never been a big fan of Starbucks and the like, and local Western-themed roasteries or cafes are only a recent highlight trend as of 2-3 years back at my place), so I usually look up at the menu once I'm up at the counter, and ask baristas on which coffee I can get that is sweet (no fan of no-sugar coffees). More often than not it's vanilla latte or some such stuff. I would love to explore other blends, but buyer's remorse got me back (again, not a fan of no-sugar coffee).
Dude. I'm only 4 minutes in and I'm hooked. As a Starbucks barista who works at one of the busiest stores DT/mobile/cafe store in our district, I've learned to be fast. I'm trusted at this point (1 yr in) and I've been "happy" about the improvements I've made. But DANG. This- is is a different level. Measuring out each shot so precisely, steaming your milk perfectly every time, and staying so calm and quick as the rush comes.....if you put me in your situation, I'd fail, if you'd be in mine, you would be the best out of all of us. You truly know the science and art of pulling beautiful shots, and steaming your milk majestically. LOL.
The biggest difference is probably the way we pull shots vs you, and the syrup options we have vs yours.
As you probably know, ours is....automated. We press a button, or a few at most if they want ristretto, 1/2 caf, updosed, blonde, or decaf shots.
We also get trained on milk techniques, but the most latte art we're trained on is a dot for the flat white....yeah. Other than that. we can decide to do latte art if we want, but apparently "nobody got time for that" since for our rush, aka we call it "peak", is expected to be 30 seconds with handheld orders (meaning there is someone outside to take orders as well as our speaker box) and around 45 seconds on an average day without handheld. It's sad, drive times suck out so much of the best things....like an opportunity for actual customer connection. Lol. GREAT job. Great video. Very sorry for the rant. Cheers from the U.S!
Thank you for your comment, Erin :) I'm sure you're doing really good at your job too, kudos to you and keep it up!
I feel you right now. Basically looking my self from a different POV. You nailed it and what makes it evem more perfect is how you keep the machine and the rest of tools so clean. Great job

Nice to see that she's weighing out the gram input. Even with the stress of cash tending and making coffees for customers looking to get in and get out, while following procedures and not skipping steps is a huge plus. Great job!
Once you have your routine down, shaving a couple seconds by skipping a step like that can just throw you off even more.
I use to work at a tea retailer that also happen to be located in an airport, we offered drinks and merch (so no fancy coffee machines) so we made like lattes, iced, hot, etc and had lots like 100+ tea options; I still remember opening and having to do the morning rush by yourself cause we were so understaffed and its tiring but at some point you just super fast at taking orders, selling merch, packaging loose tea to order and making drinks all at the same time lol Your video brings back some nostalgia cause I miss my regulars and I hope they're well since our store closed down :') Loved the video!

I respect y'all so much, whenever I think of complaining bc it's taking long I say to myself "don't even think of it, it's not you dealing with all of that work"
Appreciate you :)
This is so nice to watch. I was a barista for 7 years and now in a different industry, watching you takes me back and makes me feel nostalgic!
I love you have your process and it keeps you organized!
It's satisfying to watch you work all of that nicely.
I always wondered what it would be like to work as a barista. Seems stressful seeing each customer walk in while completing the previous one
It's good fun :) Adrenaline rush, haha..
Theres no time to relax sometimes. Writing shelf life of toppings, cleaning the coffee machine, mopping the floor every time, checking pastry. And customers expect their coffee 1 sec ready🤣
the fact that she could multitask while aerating the milk. i'd feel confident as heck having her in the bar with me lmao haha
Hahah.. Often times I’d still scream for help though ;)
As an ex barista myself, i really love making coffee and brings up the smile in the cup but the only thing i hate is the anxiety when you still have some cups going on then another customer keep coming. Thumbs up for you:)
Ah this makes me miss working in a coffee shop. So cosy, and I would love the rush
I still dont know why did I spend 22 mins on this video, it was just a recommendation.
Glad you stayed :)
My friends owns a coffeeshop down here in the States and I wish she could find a Barista as good as you.
You have mad skills..Amazing!!
Wow, thank you! So kind of you to say that :)
IDK why but I enjoyed watching you doin all this, like you did all the work fascinatingly all ALONE, I'm impressed
I enjoy watching your shift and your thoughts on it so much, thanks for sharing that and making me feel great during quarantine!
Seeing her making and serving coffee is just so relaxing.
i will get my anxiety rush if there's only people staring at what im doing without music in the room like that
felt so calm and happy watching this! 🤍
Seeing this helps me to not be so nervous when working at a bakery where I just started and now have to deal with costumers . Thank you ;)
This is my dream shift. I loved working in a busy coffee shop by myself. Gave me a chance to chat with customers and make a bunch of drinks! I miss this!
Oh man, I could watch this for hours.. It really lets me escape the stress from this year for a few minutes. Thank you for sharing these! Australia seems like such a lovely country to live in. Sigh, maybe I should start saving up to move, another ten year plan haha
Escape the stress? Haha this is stressing me out
I think this stresses out baristas and relaxes everyone else haha 😅😅😅
@@Nanichaa what's stressing me out is that she seems kind of stressed
Amazing video! Started working as a barista/bartender in a cafe restaurant and it makes me feel more confident after watching you multitask with multiple customers and orders
WOW. I adore you for your skills and how you manage everything! Just wow
These videos are a win win for everyone. We get to enjoy behind the scenes of a cafe and you get to see yourself work on bar and constantly be improving.
As someone who works in a similar position (boba barista) i must say huge respect to you for being able to tackle so many different tasks all at once nonetheless alone! A lot of people undermine the skill and critical thinking process it takes to be able to do this kind of thing! *sending virtual hugs* ♥️
Thank you and very well said, Alex :)
The utter skill and management of the orders 😭 Admiring because I could not do this without panicking and getting backed up!
I found this very pleasant to listen and watch, kind of calming. I loved watching your work flow and how you managed multiple things at once. Time to go binge the rest of your videos lol
Thank you so much!
