  • In this video I go through hypothyroidism. We cover the causes of hypothyroidism (Hashimoto's thyroiditis, iodine deficiency, treatment for hyperthyroidism, medications and hypopituitarism). We then cover the features and presentation of hypothyroidism, investigations for hypothyroidism and the management of hypothyroidism.

    I was diagnosed last month and I am now on medication but I know that people before the diagnosis did see me as lazy and costantly making up excuses when I said I feel tired, nauseous, I need to sit in the shade I can't take the sun etc. I felt like a failure because of how people treated me

      That was my case too, except I've always known I had hypothyroidism, I just was ignorant as to how dire the medication was... so I ignorantly, stopped taking the medication, resulting in all these symptoms..... lol please... dont ever stop taking your meds like I did. I take synthroid, or levathyroxin.

      I also have thyroiditis and suffer a lot in the heat. I dread Summer so much that I change my schedule and sleep during the day. And do whatever I have to do at night when it's much cooler. Fortunately I'm retired and can do what's best for me.

    My thryroid was a 358 when I got it first tested - I thought I was going crazy and I was loosing after gaining 30 pounds in 2 months because of hypothyroidism. Like I was eating a well balanced diet in a safe deficit and exercising 5-7 days a week, and was still gaining weight. Literally was crying everyday bc I didn’t know what was going on and I was so frustrated bc I had just sustainably lost weight after being overweight my whole life. Months before this weight gain though, my hair started falling out, like it was always all over my back, all over my clothes, and it would even make its way into my room. I was also extremely cold. One summer day, it was 95 degrees and I hadn’t broken a sweat, and on nights where it was 70 degrees, I was wearing jackets and sweatpants. Just staring my thyroid meds, praying I can lose the weight 🙏!

    This is interesting, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's over a year ago. My TSH was almost non-existent while T3 and T4 were normal. Anti TPO and Anti Tg were sky hight. I was then sent to do a brain scan which came back clean.
    All I was ever given were beta blockers for my tachycardia and selenium, 200 micro grams daily. No hormones whatsoever. When I did a checkup TSH became normal along with everything else.

      Selenium did its thing, I will continue to take it for the rest of my life unless things get worse but tgey shouldn't. After my last checkup TSH levels were in normal range so now I take 100 micrograms daily. Look it up, you'll be surprised how impotant selenium is for thyroid 😃

    Have suffered with a condition for approximately 24 years. Doctors can't find a answer or don't care to help. I get extreme fatigue and will sleep after eating usually lunch and supper. After about 1-2 hours when waking I have a adrenaline type rush feeling and it's a struggle to wake. Have checked blood sugar and it's most always at a good range. Have had several thyroid tests and they have all came back normal. I'm still wondering if it may be my thyroid.

      Did your doctor include thyroid anti body tests in blood screening as well? These are indicator even if body had issues with Thyroid due to auto-immune disorder in the past.

    Thanks for your fantastic demonstration. Just so that you know, there is another cause. My previous GP kept increasing my prescription for opiates (for the pain from my damaged spine) and somehow that has caused my thyroid to stop working... along with other issues; damage to my liver and kidneys. I can't seem to find any information about this type of cause anywhere and I would love to understand it better. Anyway, thanks again xx

    My TSH is 5.37, T4 is 1.28. I have fatigue, headache (or head numb, or dizzle alike) for more than 20 years. In 2020, my family doctor diagnosed me as Vitamin B12 deficiency. After taking VB12 supplement, my headache almost went away, with the exception that I feel headache since yesterday unfortunately. I always feel fatigue. I used to be around 125 libs for many years. Last August, I had my left arm broken. A Bone Mineral Density test shows L-Spine: T-score -2.8, Z-score -2.3.
    I also notice that I almost lost 10 libs now: a stable 113 libs in everyday check.
    I eat less than ever, normally 2 eggs, half chicken drumstick and 1.5 lib loaf for a typical day.
    I don't smoke, don't drink alcohol, no fast food for more than 10 years.
    I used to slow running for 1.8 miles in 18 minutes outdoor everyday. With a few short distance about 300 feet fast running I could get sweaty.
    Now I can only slowly run for 1.4 miles or so in 15 minutes, with only a very shallow sweaty than ever.
    On an online search, my TSH/T4 belongs to subclinical hypothyroidism, but my syndrome is so bad that my everyday life is so miserable. My family doctor just refers me to an endocrinologist last week. Does anyone have a similar syndrome of mine? Was it solved in the end? What was your treatment?
    Thanks.

      Don't you feel some of the symptoms may be linked to you inadequate diet? That's not enough food, especially if you're active. Your description also leaves out many essential nutrients.
      Add a piece of fruit and then get really brave and eat the *whole* chicken leg.

      I've previously normalized elevated TSH by going vegan & I stayed a vegan for 4 years.
      But then I decided to start eating meat again & now I'm back to hypothyroidism! My TSH is now 5.6 & I'll be vegan again very soon.

    • @jeankarma
      @jeankarma Před 5 měsíci

      An optimal TSH needs to be below 2,5... Too little iodine (added to salt) can cause hypothyroidism & too much much iodine can cause hypothyroidism as well. The first one is most common...

      DarkeCrimson hello. How are you? We were wondering how are you treating hypothyroidism? Hope you are not just relying on medications which in the long run are not very beneficial.
      Unfortunately, thyroid problems affect your body 360 degree so it is important that you are well prepared about this condition so you know how to tackle it.
      Good luck and if you have some doubts we are happy to help you. 🙂

    I thought I was hyperthyroidism because my fast heart rate, rapid weight loss, diarrhea, and anxiety. Turns out I’m hashimoto hypothyroidism with a tsh of 12. So confusing

    • @ahmedshinwari
      @ahmedshinwari Před 3 lety +10

      Don't just buy what doctors sell...for some Thyroid patients the hormone levels swing from under-active Thyroid to over-active Thyroid.
      Fast heart rate (with palpitation) is not sign of HypoThyroiditis but HyperThyroiditis. However, like I said, they swing too. So, do check your levels frequently (every 2 months).
      Also, check your Vitamin D levels too. For some reason, when Thyroid is damaged body begins to consume a lot of Vitamin D and produce greater amount of bad cholesterol.

      @@ahmedshinwari I was told I have generalized anxiety disorder which may cause the anxiety/fast heart rate. I’m cutting out all dairy/gluten/processed foods to cut down the inflammation in my body and to get my gut biome back to normal and taking my vitamins. I’ve had these symptoms for years and a swollen lymph node so I asked for my blood to be checked and everything is normal except my thyroid and white blood cell count is 3300 and I’m an active 27 year old Caucasian male
