We did Terry Blacks in Austin and we had everything you did, minus the peach cobbler. Our determination was exactly the same as yours. You’re spot on. We walked away feeding four people for $200. I was less than impressed. Growing up in Houston bbq used to be the “working man’s” food. A good hearty meal that tasted great, for not an extravagant amount of money. Now, it’s insanely priced.

Places around me charge $29 a pound for brisket. I bought a 15lb brisket for $56. I trimmed it to just under 13lbs. I ate 3lbs of fantastic brisket yesterday and plenty more at home. Is mine as good as theirs? Honestly probably not quite as good as some of the really good places. But it's still damn good.
I hate places that ask for a tip when your not being served the food. It’s to the point I’m noticing drive-thru places like Starbucks or fast food asking to leave a tip.

I said the same thing about the food. I spent 115.00 on my first order than the second order I spent 93.00. I called them and spoke to the Manager He advised me to come back in to remake my order. I told him I live about 45min away he said next time I come back he would take care. I called them multiple times before showing up. Me and my wife showed up with receipts in hand the Manager we spoke to and all the time we called and the call log. The assistance Manager Alex called the manager we talked and he pretended that we never had that conversation of our complaint about our beef rib, burnt ends and the thirsty brisket that was dried. We had to take our complaint to the district manager for a 50.00 gift card. I will never spend another dollar there. Go to Hutchinson they truly value their CUSTOMER.

I just saw a video from Chef Andy Cooks in which he learns what he can about BBQ. He went to Terry Black's in Austin Texas with Chef Joshua Weismann. ACCORDING to Joshua when ordering Brisket YOU HAVE TO specify that you want the MOIST part. If you don't specify this they'll give you the flat which is the lesser desired cut of Brisket. According to Chef Andy the Brisket there didn't disappoint. Chef Joshua also swears by their side dishes.
The flat is the better cut imo, but it has to be done right. It's harder to cook and less forgiving, more prone to drying out, and you have to cut it fresh and serve it immediately. The point is far more forgiving, but has huge sections of fat which I don't find particularly appetizing. That does make it more forgiving though.
Yeah, that's what it is. I'm from. Dallas and nobody I know has ever told me they liked Terry blacks. I've never tried it so I ain't gonna say it's bad but I know for a fact I can tell you some spots that are killing that.

When you get brisket from a barbecue place there's three cuts to a brisket The lean cut, the regular cut and The moist cut. Always get moist cut it has more fat to it and is really juicy.

The other guy in Austin called Franklin Barbecue was a hit. The ribs, the brisket, the sausage, and turkey a hit. Go there as I visited out of town and everything was working. It was worth it.

lol this was exactly my experience too! It’s expensive, the food is hit or miss, and everyone hyped it so much! I liked Pecan Lodge better, but it still didn’t blow my mind. My favorite BBQ in Dallas was Hutchins.. Hope you get to try them!

You underestimate the price people pay to be lazy
The Brisket alone at the store would have been about $100 or close to it. It would cost more to get the meats at store and then the cost of having what you need to smoke it right. Would have more food Yes, but price, time and effort all go way up to do it at home.

Man, I went to a BBQ shack off the highway (looked like it was a defunct gas station). I don't remember the name. I had a brisket stuffed potato. The potato was huge! And FIYA!!!
