Papatoetoe jewellery robbery horror | Gurdeep Singh's emotional account & call for action
Vložit
- čas přidán 4. 07. 2024
- Two weeks after a brutal robbery left him with a fractured skull, 50-year-old Gurdeep Singh, owner of Pooja Jewellers in Papatoetoe, shares his harrowing experience and calls for stricter laws to curb rising crime rates in New Zealand.
On June 23rd, armed teenage robbers attacked Singh with a hammer and knife in his family-owned jewellery store. Captured on CCTV, the attack was halted when his son, Sunny Singh, defended the family with a ceremonial sword. Now recovering from neurosurgery, Gurdeep Singh opens up about his ordeal and his frustration with the system that he believes fails to protect hardworking citizens.

They'd rather be issuing speeding tickets than resolving crime.
I wouldn't even write speeding tickets for a net salary of 51K to 63K. Let alone fight organized crime with a baton. I'd drive an Uber for the same pay and set my own hours.
Speeding tickets are soft targets, If you go above a little above the speed limit, you get tickets but when it comes to crime like this, they are reluctant. They are more interested in soft targets. Means, robbers target us, cops target us and both are safe in soft targets.
@@brandon5012 it's easier for them to make money 🤑💰💰
They're not even doing that. They are certainly NOT monitoring STOP signs in NZ; as 9 out of 10 drivers don't come to a complete stop. If the Police were truly interested in either easy revenue gathering, or trying to correct the NZ's DISASTROUSLY bad driving, then they could sit at ANY STOP SIGN in the country and just clean up with ticket after ticket after ticket, all day long, day after day.... But they just don't.
Isnt that normal modern human condition, we do the very little required, and those that go out of their way probably had a good brekkie, or great sex 😂
Cops are human too, paying them extra money to fight criminals who would cause them harm, isn't enough. Theyre gotta go back to their families as well, most of these recruits are not smart enough to hold rpofessional jobs, so police force gives you the same pay, and then they get in and cross their fingers for desk jobs, or pray they don't get sent out to small towns with no to little backup. The type of effective police officers we all want, are unfortunately also untenable in this modern era. Remember the solo officer in that small town who claimed some type of illness to get out of doing his job 😂
This poor man, working hard and trying to contribute to society and help his family. I wish him the best in future
This is HORRIBLE thing to go through. Why New Zealand so soft on crime? Scared to be called "Racist'???
Even UK too is too soft on crime. Criminals have more rights than honest, law abiding citizens.
So law abiding citizens are in jail too?

Not surprised that the perps were Māori and Islander
I hate to admit it but your right and yeah I'm tired of making excuses for the low lives causing trouble.
I’m islander and I’m not surprised either. I’m so disgusted with too many of my people and Maori behaving far worse than animals. We enjoy so many privileges in this country and yet it’s not enough for these losers.
All I can personally do is meaningfully contribute to society and one day marry someone with good values, even if it means marrying outside of my race, and raising my children right.
Not surprised the Jewellery store owners were Indians. Ah, stereotypes... They go both ways.
Yup usually is them and I'm sick of it
The previous Government gave them the golden ticket to do whatever they want because of the victim card
But what I don't understand is islanders are not from here so don't have the same excuses as Maori
They came here on the same visas as everyone else but I don't see the Chinese and Indians doing this violent behavior
Not surprised that an ignorant is racist.
This is a truly sad commentary of what is going on in our country. These people are hard-workers, and to treat them with such brutality - SHAME ON YOU. Go and work long hours yourself, and see if you can handle it. Leave these shop owners alone - they are there to serve the general public, and WE MUST SUPPORT THEM IN THEIR CALL FOR JUSTICE!!

As for citizen's arrest; you should actually try reading the law. You may perform a citizen's arrest at night, or during the day if there is an imminent threat of physical harm to others. Try again?
Nz police and criminal law have to change. In this age, kids must do their education or trian some kind of trade. Their parents must be responsible for this kind of behavior. Nz government, schools and parents have to be more strict about kids behavior and discipline instead spend tax money on unwanted things. Kids mean future of the country with full of young criminals no sustainable future.
Nz government must give more benefits to hard working people. Cut down benefits of lazy cunning peoples.
This are the facts have to be changed for overcome this recession.

it was the government giving benefits , weather it is the dole or tax advantage . that showed the younge people that they can't get a head .

@grizzz6884 Yes. It's dole. Lazy cunning people are not eligible for tax advantage because they are doing nothing. At least these people must have to show right away to their kids. Then they will strat work and learn how to run the business. Or be a rental property owner.
Same people no doubt. Maori and Islanders. Somehow the media will make the criminals into victims and blame it on their up bringing, rather than making them accountable.

In New Zealand we don't punish criminals. In the criminal justice system, exists an ideology that if offenders can just talk about their feelings then everything will be ok. Its a difficult subject. Shop owners are being victimised. Its no so much a focus on Indians, they simply are a race of shop owners who work long hours and are exposed to theft. The answer has to be a) improved security, b) harder penalties, and reparation being a higher factor, c) Community investment into youth at risk. It is a very sad development in NZ. Has only been an issue in the past 10-20 years. It is not a racial thing. I feel for the community. Instead of wasting millions on attempts to thwart democracy, spend the money on resolving the continuing rise in youth at risk. Every potential criminal avoided is money and resources in the bank forever. Get involved in giving back to your community.
How do you know its not a racial thing?
@rhysdravitzki3920 I did reply fully, but it may have been removed.
It is not a racial thing because racial crime is typically not robbery. Racial crime is a statement, and it is made by destroying the premises. Just because someone throws a name at you doesn't make it racial. These criminals are simply opportunists. In all, we all want it stopped. Improve the environment. Keep the area clean and tidy. Establish community support. Improve detection by establishing cameras to catch the criminals. The only way to solve this is to work together in a community support approach. Go to the local schools. See what the community can do to help. Invest in the community. Far too many cultures only focus on themselves. NZ is worth investment of personal time. Indians work very hard and are good people in the heart. The long-term solution is to be constantly involved in working with community groups to create a better community. It's all good having a Gurdwara, but how many non Indians attend? We love New Zealand. It never used to be about money or status. This has become our society, and areas like old Papatoetoe have evolved into unkept areas. Make the place a garden, and you will get rid of the rats.

@TINROOF321 its not about arming but about more patrolling, better coverage of the vulnerable areas, faster response to citizens in distress. There are cases of burglary, car breakins, defacement, and property damage. If these cases are acted against, there will be so much more deterrence. If that is stripping others then every single business is doing so.
And coming to the jobs, there aren’t enough skilled workers so the government has to get them from outside or they risk outsourcing of those jobs.
Non skilled jobs are taken by students, there also it is government who keeps calling more students. If they are here they will have to work to survive.
Real villains here are the government and corporates not the immigrants. They are here in the hope of a better life and nothing else. They don’t with a plan to steal jobs.

What nonsense. Stop embracing victimhood and entitlement and teach your kids some morals and ethics. Teaching them to work hard and that they're not owed anything would help.
