  • Two weeks after a brutal robbery left him with a fractured skull, 50-year-old Gurdeep Singh, owner of Pooja Jewellers in Papatoetoe, shares his harrowing experience and calls for stricter laws to curb rising crime rates in New Zealand.
    On June 23rd, armed teenage robbers attacked Singh with a hammer and knife in his family-owned jewellery store. Captured on CCTV, the attack was halted when his son, Sunny Singh, defended the family with a ceremonial sword. Now recovering from neurosurgery, Gurdeep Singh opens up about his ordeal and his frustration with the system that he believes fails to protect hardworking citizens.

      They're not even doing that. They are certainly NOT monitoring STOP signs in NZ; as 9 out of 10 drivers don't come to a complete stop. If the Police were truly interested in either easy revenue gathering, or trying to correct the NZ's DISASTROUSLY bad driving, then they could sit at ANY STOP SIGN in the country and just clean up with ticket after ticket after ticket, all day long, day after day.... But they just don't.

      Isnt that normal modern human condition, we do the very little required, and those that go out of their way probably had a good brekkie, or great sex 😂
      Cops are human too, paying them extra money to fight criminals who would cause them harm, isn't enough. Theyre gotta go back to their families as well, most of these recruits are not smart enough to hold rpofessional jobs, so police force gives you the same pay, and then they get in and cross their fingers for desk jobs, or pray they don't get sent out to small towns with no to little backup. The type of effective police officers we all want, are unfortunately also untenable in this modern era. Remember the solo officer in that small town who claimed some type of illness to get out of doing his job 😂

    Its a difficult subject. Shop owners are being victimised. Its no so much a focus on Indians, they simply are a race of shop owners who work long hours and are exposed to theft. The answer has to be a) improved security, b) harder penalties, and reparation being a higher factor, c) Community investment into youth at risk. It is a very sad development in NZ. Has only been an issue in the past 10-20 years. It is not a racial thing. I feel for the community. Instead of wasting millions on attempts to thwart democracy, spend the money on resolving the continuing rise in youth at risk. Every potential criminal avoided is money and resources in the bank forever. Get involved in giving back to your community.

      @ianstephenson9471 Před 7 dny

      @rhysdravitzki3920 I did reply fully, but it may have been removed.
      It is not a racial thing because racial crime is typically not robbery. Racial crime is a statement, and it is made by destroying the premises. Just because someone throws a name at you doesn't make it racial. These criminals are simply opportunists. In all, we all want it stopped. Improve the environment. Keep the area clean and tidy. Establish community support. Improve detection by establishing cameras to catch the criminals. The only way to solve this is to work together in a community support approach. Go to the local schools. See what the community can do to help. Invest in the community. Far too many cultures only focus on themselves. NZ is worth investment of personal time. Indians work very hard and are good people in the heart. The long-term solution is to be constantly involved in working with community groups to create a better community. It's all good having a Gurdwara, but how many non Indians attend? We love New Zealand. It never used to be about money or status. This has become our society, and areas like old Papatoetoe have evolved into unkept areas. Make the place a garden, and you will get rid of the rats.
